this, tbh. In a different setting, in the ussr for example, he'd relish being a political commissar and one of those guys that sent families and enemies of bolshevism to the gulag system.

I hate all of them, but there's something about Colbert & Kimmel that just make me want to see them assassinated in the most heinous manner possible. Their smugness and the sanctimony is worse than that of even John Oliver. There are two more "commentators" that need an even worse fate - Jon Stewart and his pet monkey Trevor Noah.

Toss-up between Oliver and Colbert. If you forced me to pick I'd say Colbert just because there's more wasted potential. He's far and away the most talented comic of the bunch, but sold his soul to the devil. So far as I can tell, Oliver never had a soul in the first place.

Fallon and Kimmel are just vanilla career guys. I get why someone could find Jimmy Kimmel annoying as frick but I don't really have a problem with him. ABC is pure cancer though.

All this said with caveat that I've never seen anything with Seth Meyers so I'm not counting him at all.

Oliver actually does cover interesting stories with his deep dives, he’s just insufferable doing it
Meyers and Kimmel are empty suits
Colbert was at least kinda funny in his old character
Fallon is actively offensive in how fake an unfunny he is. “Cringe” is overused but watching his fake laugh and enthusiasm in interviews is legitimately cringeworthy

      Anonymous

      >deep dives
They're extremely shallow propaganda. Always, if you know anything about the subject matter, you can tell that he's full of shit. I get the impression that you're low iq.

Oliver is a propagandist who's pieces never hold up to scrutiny
Try checking out a Steven Crowder response video if you want to see John Oliver from the other side.

Oliver is propaganda. Just like Stewart was. He may even cover topics that have actual problems, but then he'll skew it in a way to suit their needs. Some episodes are way more obvious than others but its always there.

Colbert. Just a smug, condescending douche in everything. Bonus points for him telling his audience how to think.
Seth Meyers is just boring. Kimmel is a whiny soiboy.
Fallon is the least annoying out of all. He just tends to laugh for no reason and his interviewing skills are terrible. But the games he plays are pretty cool especially the musical ones

I like meyers show in that it's sometimes an snl writers room chat show.

imo they should have leaned into that. have snl guests on, have writers on, have comedians, have actors, and have them build sketches in front of the audience and put them on.

The dude in the middle bugs me the most because he was able to make a career out of being a mans man, or what he'd call a sexist, then casually flips the switch and becomes a leftist talking head with no one batting an eye. Colbert, and whatever the dude on the far rights name is have never been not liberal. Colbert started as a funnyman but you could always tell. The hypocrisy of the middle dude and of his viewers makes me mad

I was going to say this. And they’re friends and both “evolved” (in Stern parlance) in tandem.
Say what you will about Howard, he’s always been good at reading the runes of popular culture and switching things up accordingly. He saw the shift coming faster than anybody.
I heard the first mention of satellite radio on as a concept on the show in the early 90s. I expected Howard to shit on it but he was familiar with it and you could tell the wheels were turning even then.
I think another critical moment in his “evolution” was when Rosie O’Donnell called in to bury the hatchet and said she had 100 million in the bank from her stupid show. I think he realized at that moment the shekel potential of appealing to normie women, which prompted AGT and the kindler, gentler Howard.

Being annoying and weird and fake isn't as big a crime as being a stooge, in my opinion. I'm not the guy you responded to and I've never personally watched any of them, just know what I've heard here and elsewhere. My wife and her friends actually met Fallon shopping and speak highly of him, said he was a normal dude grocery shopping with his wife and he let them take a selfie with him. I agree he looks plastic and fake, but there's worse things you can be than that in hollywood

Fallon is fine. He's not as good as the previous generation obviously, and far below 00s Colbert, and his monologue sucks, but he's the least political and condescending of all them. So Jimmy laughs too much, whatever, I don't find it fake, and he's really good with people I like such as Vince Vaughn and Dakota Johnson.

Also Oliver sucks but worst is Kimmel and Colbert, at least Fallon is a goofball for normies.

My biggest question is how did Kimmel fly under the MeeToo radar with shit like his Man Show? How is there so many late night comedic talk shows in America? There's nowhere near this amount in the UK/Ireland. Conversely there's not a massive amount of other non drama shows that all Americans would watch. E.g. There's a lot more current affairs shows and local documentary stuff on over here.

We used to have only Carson on NBC. Then Dave Letterman followed him. Then Letterman jumped to CBS. So NBC replaced him with Leno, and he needed a follow and it was a Conan O'Brien. So then Letterman needed someone to follow him.

After a long time ABC decided they wanted in and got Kimmel. So that's how you went from 1 to 5. But there's also Comedy Central which blew up with Jon Leibowitz's show, which Colbert was part of and then got his own show on CC then moved to CBS.

Celebrity worship culture, even though the most boring thing about these shows was the interviews. Also, these shows are massively dropping off in viewers as celebrities already engage in social media and people are more wise to the fact that most of them are horrible people.

Americans are obsessed with reality tv slop for some reason. Documentaries haven’t been super popular here since the mid 2000’s which is probably why the average IQ is <100. The literacy rate in this country is abysmally low by western standards.

Hmmm. Nowadays I think it's Colbert. He unabashedly chugs the koolaid every chance he gets, and acts as a propagandist pretty much 100% of the time.

Overall, across their full career? Oliver. Just irredeemably unfunny at every single point in his entire career. Like, Colbert had plenty of genuinely funny moments on the Colbert Report back in the day. But Oliver had nothing, ever. He's just trash.
