    >Homer, you are the worst human being I have ever met.
    >Hey, I got off pretty easy

Why would Homer think that's "getting off easy"?

Because Ned didn't send him to the Feed and Seed.

Ned was screaming at everyone, and had a tangent designed personally for each individual. With Homer he lowered his tone and diminished him in a very simple and quick manner which is better than the others.

Unloading on people has never made my anger go away. Whenever I'm put in a Flanders situation I unload on people, realise it doesn't matter because people never change and all I did was show my ass and make myself look stupid. Should I just step it up to extreme physical violence?

Ned didn't have insurance. He considers it a form of gambling.

How can insurance be gambling? It's literally the opposite.

Because you don't have faith that God will keep your house safe for being a good Christian. Even though Christians are never promised to be safe from harm or protected on Earth. Jesus even confirms that a tower could collapse and kill you regardless of how much of a sinner you are.

The actual similarity is that taking out insurance is literally betting that your house will burn down (or whatever).
The writers may have thought that a religious guy would think getting insurance is not trusting God. But really they were just making a lame joke by having a character do sonething that sounds irrational.

        Anonymous

Its gambling because getting the insurance company to payout is a coin flip when they always do everything they can to avoid doing it. It's not commentary on religion. It's a dig at corrupt insurance companies.

        Anonymous

I mean, taking insurance out is a calculated risk that can be in your favor if you take out the right policy. But it also a gamble if they are willing to uphold their own policy, as written as they might fall back on another sub ruling to invalidate a claim.

But as another anon said, this is just a lame joke as it would not be unreasonable of Ned to realistically have insurance. Homer would in this case would be more likely to not have insurance as he is a fool that assumes nothing bad happens.

    They honestly tried.
    But they're incompetent.
Can the incompetent be at fault for their earnest effort being bad?
    No.
Ned was frustrated that he had been devastated.
Not explored in the episode is the demonstration here that Ned has a transactional view of his devotion to God: that for it he will be rewarded. A very common trait among American Christians and the reason why so-called Prosperity Gospel has gained so much traction.
And his frustration blew up at the incompetent peoples well meaning but poor quality attempt to help him.
Because he felt betrayed by a God he believed owed him.

Flanders for being a moronic zealot. That's not even being an edgy anti-religion edgelord either, it's dumb and counter-productive to believe that just because you believe in god and follow the 10 commandments you're automatically owed prosperity.
