this bothered me too. This episode was supposed to be realistic , but the writers didn't think to make the characters pay. great opportunity for some awkward dialogue about waiting to for the waitress to come back so they can pay
You really shouldn't do this. Sites like expedia will steal your money, and they're all owned by the same 2-3 companies because that way they can keep fricking customers over and the customers think they can go to a different company, but it's the same company and they just get fricked again down the line.
I think no one asked anyone to book the hotel and they just said Pim cause they just assume he does everything. No one told Pim, Charlie is just a lazy butthole.
I thought this too, especially since Pim was already getting the plane tickets, and if theyre gonna have him do everything anyway they should remind him, Pim was not in the fault here
>No one told Pim
Alan says "Pim I sent you a link on messenger, you were supposed to book the hotel"
Pim either didn't read the message or just completely missed it
the others should have double checked it was all done long before the flight, and it is kinda bullshit that Pim had to arrange the flights and accommodation, but there must have been a reason Alan couldn't do it and sent it to Pim who then just didn't do it
I think no one asked anyone to book the hotel and they just said Pim cause they just assume he does everything. No one told Pim, Charlie is just a lazy butthole.

Pim may have not gotten the tickets but they relied on him to do everything for this trip by assumption. These guys should have double or triple checked all the details together and at least knew check in times and the like.
But honestly this is a common issue and can happen. It's probably their first real group vacation together and they'll get better at it over the years. But we won't see those vacations.
One thing I like about smiling friends is that they aren't complete buttholes to each other and understand why they would hang out with each other. Instead of continuing to be frustrated with Pim they forgave him and turned it into a learning experience.
Yeah I loved this episode because that's exactly how friends would react to a situation like this. As someone who's been in a similar situation that entire episode and how it played out is so relatable, especially moments like getting out of the way of other people by the escalator when we are trying to sort the issue out.
Pim. Pim was sent a link to the hotel. Not a link to a reservation, a link to the hotel. If he had put even two seconds of due diligence into it, he would've seen that no reservation had been made yet and could have said "well, wait, guys, you didn't reserve it, this is just the hotel's website" and the misunderstanding would have surfaced and been resolved.
There's two scenarios. Either Pim was told to book the rooms (in which case he is at fault for forgetting, and the responsibilities of everyone else ended once Pim was forwarded the selected hotel) or Pim was not told to book the rooms (in which case everyone is guilty for not booking their own rooms, but Pim is especially guilty because he didn't think there was a group reservation AND he didn't bother to make his own despite thinking they were all doing it alone). In the best case, he's still the one most at fault, and that best case is also the most unlikely case because the other 3/4s of the group all think he was explicitly put in charge of reservations.
It's a rookie mistake to not have one guy on a group trip handle all the plans >buying 4 tickets at once lets you all sit together on the plane instead of crossing your fingers and hoping you can get seats next to each other by the time everyone gets around to buying individually >no risk of 3/4 of the people getting a room in the hotel and the slowest person being told they're all booked up >some travel companies include perks for group orders that'd you'd miss if you all went individually
Even if Pim was told to book the hotel everyone else is still at fault for putting the responsibility of buying the tickets and booking the hotel on him. Pim is also in the wrong for assuming everyone was ganging up on him and nearly escalating things when Glep was quiet the whole time and the only time Alan interjected was when Pim claimed that booking the hotel was Alan's job.
This would make it a bit better I guess, Im just bothered on how nothing happens at all, miniscule amount of background gags about Brasil too 🙁
I knew they were gonna do this, but I didnt expect it to be that bad
This is exactly what it is
The timing was the oddest thing about it, would have made more sense to hold it over til next season or even next April Fool's. But I guess it got people talking about the show again
>yeah just have one guy book the hotel we dont care where it is, its amenities, or any shuttle location from the beach or local hotspots
this is where its fricked up its like everyone just said "go do this" without prior input from anyone else. Pim buys airplane tickets and communicates the time for the flight and should also have time for hotel check in/any shuttle service.
But aside that, if Alan had been designated to buy the hotel but pushed it off to Pim via text message without any confirmation, then Alan has failed.
>if Alan had been designated to buy the hotel but pushed it off to Pim via text message without any confirmation, then Alan has failed.
This. If making plans like that, and if you have to relegate the task to someone else, make sure that they actually read and acknowledged it. Especially if the change in plans is over an app or through text. Alan should have checked back in on Pim to see if he read the message and if he would be able to do it.
But also, since Pim was already doing stuff for the flight, Alan should have checked to see if Charlie or Gleb could book the hotel.
And Alan didn’t bring up the Messenger thing again, because after he realized Pim probably didn’t see the message, he knew he was to blame for not checking back in, or seeing if any of the other guys could do it, and didn’t want to others to also realize that it was his fault, so he sort of doubled down on blaming Pim for a while, then remaining quiet for a little bit.
Alan also kind of seems like one of those guys, ya know? Where he’ll realize he made the mistake, but then doesn’t want that realization to be known to the group, so he then either doubles down on something else, or doesn’t bring up the damning information to the group again.
You know what, I was on the fence with how I felt about the episode, but seeing people read this deeply into the mundane interactions proves they actually did make something interesting
>randomly delegate trip details to one person and have zero incentive to check in with them regarding details of flight/hotel/amenities/activities on a PLANNED trip
While pim did frick up they shouldn’t have put all the pressure on him to book both plane and hotel and then not check to make sure everything was booked. Everyone is at fault for not thinking to put a little more effort into making sure such a big trip was properly planned and I’m glad they learned from their experience.
One thing I like about smiling friends is that they aren't complete buttholes to each other and understand why they would hang out with each other. Instead of continuing to be frustrated with Pim they forgave him and turned it into a learning experience.
Agreed. Had this happened on Rick and Morty, for example, we'd have gotten a five-minute diatribe on why the character to blame is a fundamentally flawed human being and yadda yadda yadda...

or one of them holds onto it just so they can hold it over everyone's heads the next time another confrontation happens unless that's just me being unlucky enough to have one friend in our group who's a total homosexual about everything
You're in rio during Mardi gras just party until you meet a drunk qt to take you to her place or at the very least some other tourists and crash at their hostel
>Doesn't reserve a hotel for the trip >won't own up to his mistake >reluctant to call and check with the hotel >Blames Alan and ignores his message telling him to book the hotel >suggests paying double or even TRIPLE for a hotel without offering to cover for the rest of the group
Someone should have double checked with Pim, but holy FRICK what a screw up I did love this ep as it was an 11 minute shitpost
He already got the plane tickets settled and Alan was originally in charge of the hotel there's no reason for them to have expected him to do everything without telling him in person first
While pim was in the wrong for not booking it, Alan was in the wrong for not being specific enough and everyone was in the wrong for not double checking before the trip, pim is definitely more at fault but saying it’s all pim’s fault is wrong.
I mean, why not? Businesses can write travel expenses off if it's for business. The Smiling Friends are essentially craftsmen psychotherapists, so if they provide a service to one person in Brazil, then it's legal.
Because back when I worked on Wall St., I would often go out on business trips as the technical assistant to the salesperson. And we had a travel expenses budget and we could phone in and ask for more, and then it would all get written off.

Literally yes though. It was a 50-man company on Liberty Plaza. So I would call the CEO who would tell the bookkeeper to authorize more money.

Actually, that's a really good idea. Why didn't they ask Boss if there was anyone in Brazil that needed Smiling Friends assistance? They could easily have written the whole thing off as a business expense and literally all they would have needed to do would be let someone else hang out with them for the duration.
This guy gets it. You ever see those fricking absurdly expensive first class seats on airplanes? The vast majority of those are given to business executives who put it on the company card, because it can be used as a tax write off. A lot of larger corporations literally encourage using the company card because they have to deal with potentially billions of dollars of taxes every year, so every little write off counts.

>Working on vacation >Filling out paperwork on vacation
There's a special place in hell for people that suggest this.
I think that begs the question though, how rich is The Boss and how much money does the place actually make. Sure you write off the expenses but not until tax season. You still have to spend the money.
Smiling Friends is non-profit, right? I don't think they charge for their services. Seems like something Boss started up after achieving financial success elsewhere. This is more like his passion project.

The Boss talks about being down 2 billion dollars in revenue when the frowning friends come into town.
Pim, easily. Even if he forgot, it was at least agreed upon at some point that he was in charge of getting a hotel. It was stupid of the others to not check up on everything before they left, but Pim is the one who fricked up.
This, when I travel overseas I always check the morning of my flight if everything's correct, one last time. You'd better be fricking sure you've got everything set when you travel that far from home. Pim should have booked the hotel yes, but everyone should have double-checked before getting on the fricking plane.
Yeah, they ordered a bunch of fries, AND HAD HALF AN HOUR TO FINISH THEM before the next flight, and they left them on the table WITHOUT PAYING.
Frick the smiling friends and frick Oney and co.
Fricking c**ts I hope they burn in hell.
Then why were they in such a hurry to get to the next flight in 45 minutes (10 minutes away so they'd have like half an hour to book) if they knew it was hopeless?
I assume it can be sorted out by phone nowadays, can't it?
>A Show About Nothing has more going on than smiling friends
lmao
Seinfeld did the whole awkwardness bits better too despite the actors being obvious quipping comedians.
Smiling Friends feels like a show the creators got stuck on and have no real intent on expanding upon the premise. Alan is the most obvious example, he's the guy that keeps the office in check and working properly by being an annoying control freak, since he's the home guy he can be expanded to the intel guy during Charlie's and Pim's ground operations but he literally has no role at all past the pilot since they never actually do their job of making others smile. It's all very random and meandering with Charlie and Pim being avatars for the creators which leaves little room for characters with more limited roles.
>they never actually do their job of making others smile
literally every episode (at least the ones with clients) ends with their client smiling moron, the joke is that they get there in unexpected ways
>The little musical Buildup and Chime every smile >3D Squeldon only got a piano key instead of a bell, signifying they didn't fully get him to smile
KINO.
>The little musical Buildup and Chime every smile >3D Squeldon only got a piano key instead of a bell, signifying they didn't fully get him to smile

Don't you just love how every attempt to make this show look bad just make sit look better?
It's not his mistake, it's how he react to it. Immediately denied it, was reluctant to call the hotel, only suggestion was to get a more expensive hotel without offering to pay at least most of it himself, suggested begging their boss for money.
Pim fricked up pretty bad honestly.
Its naturally how people would act in that situation. He already knew he didn't book it, but he was trying to find a reasonable explanation and, understandably, felt horrible and was hoping for some sort of solution he could provide to make up for it. Guy wanted to fix the problem first and I get that. Though his frick up was where he was trying to make it THEIR mistake as a group rather than his when talking to the boss.
When he realized it couldn't be fixed that's when he finally apologized and from that point everyone cooled down. Them realizing all of them were in some way at fault for not double checking everything together and admitting it was a learning experience is the most real thing about this episode for sure. Shows why they are all friends.
It's weird cause I see Glep as a child-like character. So it's like teasing a little kid about wanting to see sexy characters. Now I know Glep has a wife but that hasn't come up in the show. I feel like that's sappose to be like another weird joke. Like where Glep feels like a child he is actually an adult with a wife.

Pim can be faulted for not listening correctly, but the others should’ve double checked before it was too late. What is weird is that it seems unlikely that Pim was footing the bill for the plane tickets and would probably have expected the others to pay him back. If that’s the case then wouldn’t they have assumed to offer him money for the hotel? That would’ve tipped him off that he was meant to book it.
Allan. Who the frick sends someone a link to a hotel and expects them to book it. Black person, you're on the hotel site right now. Just book that shit yourself. Beyond that you can say they're all at fault, who readies payment after the fact, all the money should have been sent to some slush to pay for accom ahead of time. Is this how Americans travel? This is something I cannot possibly imagine actually occurring unless you're backpacking hostel to hostel around a country or continent only 'booking' ahead when you're ready to leave.
This is probably the first big group trip these guys have ever taken. Individually they can handle their own accommodations, but they're clearly inexperienced in coordinating with people outside their own households. With this lack of communication it's surprising they even got there smoothly.
>Makes a massively costly mistake >Refuses to fully take the blame for or acknowledge it >Accuses everyone of ganging up on him to emotionally blackmail them into forgiveness
Pim is the worst kind of person holy shit
Alan was a moron, how the frick do you tell someone to book hotel rooms by just sending them a link with no fricking message? Why couldn't he be bothered to put the bare minimum effort in communicating to Pim that he's the one in charge of hotel rooms? Pim was right to say that it was all their faults and frick them for acting like it was just Pim's fault.
Pim and Alan. You don't send a message about something that important and not check up. You also don't just read it and not confirm. The other two are blameless tbh.
They were all in the wrong for not triple checking that everything was irn order before leaving, but Pim as particularly in the wrong for not owning up to his mistake and being a fricking whiny little "why are you bullying me :(" pussy about it
damn this fricking sucks, worst of all is that this shit happens often in certain places of brazil.
/gif/ had a very interesting brazil thread with a bunch of very unfortunate webms, like the guy who recorded his own murder and the guy who got shot in the head and the bullet hit another girl that was waiting for a bus

The joke of that we're going to display 3rd-world danger realistically in this funny cartoon has more potential than "we're going to do nothing for 11 minutes" which has been done before.
The episode was pretty spot-on in terms of character interactions but that's all.
this feels like a joke that was funnier as a half second concept, like "oh what if we do an entire episode adlibbed" but it wasn't actually funny in execution. it would've been better as a two minute gag and then 9 minutes of blank screen
...that's not the punchline of the joke. it's >"what if we had this grand adventure to Brazil hyped up, but then the entire episode is just deliberately mundane and realistic conversations in the airport before they decide to go home?"
It's not a good joke if nearly everyone saw it coming a week prior, and especially when it's one of the most common premises done in adult cartoons for nearly 2 decades.
See, that's the thing. Even if the joke HAD landed with the appropriate setup (which I honestly doubt), you're on a streaming platform, you have no control of when and how people watch and no way to control what they've watched before. And even then it's a joke that can only possibly work once being put on a platform permanently. And they animated it, put a lot of work into it. It's not like dubbing fart noises over adult swim videos for a day.
I must say, I find this train wreck fascinating. Did anybody making it actually think it was a good idea or was it all a cynical piece of performance art?
ITT: a lot of anons who don't understand what a tax write off is. It's not free money.
A write off is removed from your taxable income, not directly subtracted from the amount you owe in taxes.
The current federal corporate tax rate in the US is 21%, so claiming the trip as a business expense would still cost the company 79% of the total cost.
If their total taxable income was $1 million, and the trip cost $10 thousand, then their taxable income would be reduced to $990,000 but their total owed in taxes would only be reduced from $210,000 to $207,900, so the company would only save $2,100 and still be out $7,900.
All of them for not knowing for sure the hotel was booked. Even if someone else is supposed to do it, I'm still gonna confirm that they did. No one even cared to check where they'd be staying? That's everyone's business.
>Pim was in charge of both plane tickets AND the hotel
I mean it's technically Pim's fault but what the frick did the other guys even do then? It doesn't sound like they booked anything because of the way they were formulating plans while they got off the plane so did they just push all the responsibilities onto him? Makes them out to be buttholes
Everybody. They all should have done a better job of communicating & made it clear WHO was in charge of doing WHAT, then gotten together before the trip to make sure everything was in place.
after seeing Alan count all the paper clips in the office like an autistic sperg, he comes off as the type that would triple check to see if everything is good to go, weekly, before the trip.
Allen and Pim.
Allen was supposed to book to hotel but he passed it off to Pim in a facebook message and did not even bother to remind him. Charlie putting it all on Pim calls back to their argument in the Christmas episode though and you would think Charlie would double check Pim as the man still has not got his eyes checked and Charlie knows this. Glepp is the only one not at fault they asked him to go and he even left his wife Marge at home just so he could spend some time with the boys he also is the only one who bothered to eat any of the fries Charlie ordered and then didn’t pay for
I know its a joke but it really frustrates me to imagine four guys paying for tickets to Brazil, and then deciding to go straight home when they don’t have a hotel booked
Pim, cause he was in charge, even if some gays think that "it was too much for him" it's because they can't handle shit like this and they're as equally in the wrong as him.
Also, this episode kinda sucked, it was mostly a repeated joke and the one that wasn't is like a meh moment from a good episode.
Alan because Alan was given the task to book hotels, and he just sent a text message to Pim telling Pim to do it. He didn't make sure the message was received, or call to confirm, or anything like that. Pim just needed to get the tickets at first, which is what he did. He wasn't initially responsible for the hotel, and Alan didn't make sure he offloaded his responsibility properly.
I think Charlie took this remarkably well. I'd have been fricking livid if Alan and Pim had fricked up my entire week long vacation and left me over $1000 in the hole with nothing to show for it.
Well, he did die, go to Hell, see Satan, was about to be tormented forever, and then was resurrected by Gilbert GODfried and come back into being, naked as the day he was born, during his funeral.
That sort of experience might put some things into perspective for a homunculus. At least for a few weeks, anyways.
You should never as an artist pretend your work is "good". It comes off as pretentious and now after seeing S1 of Smiling Friends it's not even classic Oney or Cusack animation so Zach should STFU
Just watched the episode thanks to the non who post the mega link.
It was fricking nothing, yes it is realistic, yes I could watch a whole season of just those guys arguing and interacting but I thought... I had higher expectations for smiling friends, the dude from Bushworld Adventures could be funnier if he try, again this was fricking nothing.
Everyone. Yeah Pim fricked up but imagine planning this trip and not asking about the hotel even once since you'll be staying there for literally days. When me and the gf would vacation I would always ask about the hotel she was booking. >Brazil
even more of a reason to make sure you're not getting a roach shack.
The frick does that have to do with Rich and Morty Black folk? Most of those morons hated Bushworld Adventures when it aired because they are braindead simpletons. Any pivot to their opinion now is based solely on peer pressure and trying to fit in for not 'getting it' at the time.
Pim should have double checked the night before and followed up with the group to make sure everything was ready, and that last point goes the same for Alan and Charlie.
It's stupid to be in charge of choosing the hotel but not reserving it. Even if they told Pim he had to also reserve it that's an easy thing to forget if you weren't also in charge of choosing it.
They should have either all chosen it together then told Pim to reserve it, or the person who chose it should have reserved it.
Everyone. When traveling in a group you have to get together to plan things and assign chores, even if the responsible guy is going to do everything.
You can't just decide to go to Brazil and assume someone will take care of everything.
This episode hit a little too close to home for me. Once our friend group planned a vacation for 4, and one of our mutual friends didn't get invited and was seriously moping about it, and so I invited him along thinking everyone else wouldn't mind, and everyone got super mad at me because they didn't invite him on purpose because they all actually hated him but no one told me.
Because of me trying to be nice there were too many of us in the car, too many of us in the hotel room, and on top of that he was a huge prick to everyone the entire time. I ruined the entire trip and everyone blamed me and I hated myself for it.
After that he was completely excommunicated from our friends group entirely and I never lived it down.
He was a sarcastic shithead to everyone, made fun of everyone's music choices, griped about everything, the AC, the food, the walking, the sun, the sand, the hotel, everything. We couldn't have a conversation without him b***hing unannounced. He didn't act like that normally so I don't know what got under his skin but he made us all miserable. A year later he apologized for being a dick but why bother by that point.
Every time you see a sitcom episode with that exact plot, do you cringe inside?
Your friends seems like passive-aggressive c**ts if they didn't make their dislike of him clearer, but you're a moron if you actually invited him without even telling ther other before.
you and your friends, like anon said, are passive aggressive. it's very common in boards like these. you need to sit him down and tell him what his problem is, not talk shit behind his back whilst laughing along when he's around
yes i am projecting my ex-friends with this
>After that he was completely excommunicated from our friends group entirely and I never lived it down.
Because that's a thing normal adults too. Don't be surprised if your friends turn on you one day too.
This was around 10 years ago anons. They're not my friends anymore precisely because of shit like this.
>because they all actually hated him but no one told me.
Why wouldn't they tell you that?
Because they were being cliquey mean girls and nice to his face but they didn't really like him and they knew I was too kind for my own good.
>and I never lived it down
What exactly does this entail? Is it merely playful ribbing or do they hang it over you anytime you get into an argument with them? If the second, that shit's fricked up because even if you did something hasty the resulted in terrible consequences, it's not like you had bad intent.
Both. People who are cruel to you aren't actually your friends.
you and your friends, like anon said, are passive aggressive. it's very common in boards like these. you need to sit him down and tell him what his problem is, not talk shit behind his back whilst laughing along when he's around

if anything at least anon was trying to be a good friend and all his friends are shitheads. Yeah if the guy is a c**t I get it but the fact that they also blame anon for that is really gay and shitty of them
What anon did was a kind gesture, but at the same time it's also a major decision he made on his own. Even if guy 5 wasn't a total c**t, it'd still be a dick move to do that without discussing it with your other friends first. When shit like that happens and it's too late to do anything about it, people will start looking for a person to blame and anon is the reason why guy 5 was there even if he was just trying to be nice, so naturally he's the scapegoat.
I guess it at least gave them a justifiable reason to boot him out of the friend group and break off all contact afterwards, so I guess it wasn't a totally bad ending.
>and I never lived it down

Given that they were still in the airport, he would have harassed them until they gave him some money or until they went to find some airport authorities.
If they were outside the airport, they'd be dead.
Hoenstly, was probably looking to convert it to Real, people do that all the time in airports. Guy could have been nice and just weird, could have been weird and wanted to rob the/rip them off, 50/50 honestly.
Alan for shirking his responsibility onto Pim via text, then never confirming or following up that Pim had actually received the text or booked the hotel.
You know what, I love the show and Zach and Michael are both tremendously funny dudes, but for the amount of shit Zach gives people for doing lame, cliché jokes like "Oh hi I didn't see you there" and "what if Mario do drugs", I'm really disappointed that they would make a "bait and switch the characters actually do nothing" episode.
I don't know much about these ecelebs but if they really thought a terrible family guy sketch stretched out to 11 minutes was some trailblazing comedy then they clearly aren't very aware of the whole "comedy scene".
Maybe this video encapsulates the humor well.
>Zach does some randumb bit where the humor is in the antihumor being hyped up and played straight >cut to the straight man saying this is terrible and transition to more random talk, with the humor coming from the let down
But with this episode there was no one telling him it's a terrible family guy skit and instead it was stretched out to infinity instead of making fun of its absurd lack of humor.
It's also the kind of deadpan joke I make with friends but it's simply the kind of thing that works in that format and nowhere else.
Pim's is at fault but the others not checking up on Pim was bad too.
Like seriously, they didn't even ask how much the hotel cost?
If it included meals?
It's not like flying to a different state, they went to a whole different entire nation, you seriously aren't even going to follow how things are going?
I'm in Europe and planning to go to a different place as well, I'm always double checking things weekly, even though I will depart new year, because I'd rather make sure everything is smooth now than having to worry when I'm there.
All of them as far as I'm concerned unless they expected Pim to pay for the hotel rooms himself. They never messaged him asking how much the rooms cost so they could pay for the room?
Despite not being a good episode, I gotta give cocaine Hadel credit. At least doing something with his life, unlike the balding moron reposting content with b***hing a new name and getting cucked by a cartoon reviewer.
It's everyone's fault. If Carnivale was happening the day they got there they should have reserved hotel rooms months in advance, and printed out the reservations. Don't assume a 3rd world hellhole has Wifi everywhere.
So what are you guys hoping to see in season 2 of Grinning Acquaintances? >We see more of the character’s personal lives, like what Charlie does in his spare time and such. >We see Charlie’s girlfriend(?) from the Halloween episode again >An episode satirizing internet reviewers with Doug Walker voicing a character >An episode where Australia is involved somehow
I don't know.
I'm not the target audience that laughs his head off at characters having realistic conversations so what they do isn't really up my alley but I wish the creators well.
Pim, I think it was actually unrealistic that Alan and Charlie weren't fricking pissed. They each would have wasted hundreds of dollars on the flight and gotten nothing out of it.
Everyone, I can't imagine going on any kind of trip like this and everyone involved not knowing every ounce of the plan start to finish just in case something goes wrong.
Also, thjs episode felt pretty low budget, like they had to put something out jsut becuase, and not only in the walk cicles, but also the script, which feels like the same shit over and over for 10 minutes, becuas the one extra minute was dedicated to the guy that talked to them
Everyone except Glep
fpbp
they should have planned this whole mess out in advance. they didnt even know they went in carnival
They all were for ordering fries and then leaving without paying.
he was more wrong for eating the fires they didn't pay for
>They all were for ordering fries and then leaving without paying.
I'm still bothered by this. I can't stop thinking about it.
this bothered me too. This episode was supposed to be realistic , but the writers didn't think to make the characters pay. great opportunity for some awkward dialogue about waiting to for the waitress to come back so they can pay
I rate your channel a 1/10
Pim obviously. Who the frick takes a flight to another country for vacation without booking a hotel in advance?
Why is he in charge of flights AND hotels, that doesn't seem fair.
Because he's "the responsible one." Or at least he was. Alan should have known better, Pim's flaky.
You can bundle flights and hotels together in package deals. At least I have, though they're usually shit.
You really shouldn't do this. Sites like expedia will steal your money, and they're all owned by the same 2-3 companies because that way they can keep fricking customers over and the customers think they can go to a different company, but it's the same company and they just get fricked again down the line.
Pim but the others should have reminded him and double-triple-checked constantly. Funny episode tho.
I could honestly feel Pims heart sink when they asked him if he booked the hotel.
It’s weird that all of it fell on Pim, like he said he was also in charge of the plane so yeah.
He was the one who always on the laptop while in the office.
Yeah i would be a nuisance asking about the hotel every day.
Genuinely Alan dropped the ball nearly as much as Pim did. He sent one message, got no response, and never thought to follow up?
Anyone have a link to the EP?
stop being cheap and stream it on HBO Max
>paying for subscription services
>paying for television
>Yes mr. israelite, take my money plz
Nah, especially not when those israelites at discovery are gonna ruin it anyways
>literally not even a thing in my country
yea cool
>literally not even a thing in my country
Are you from brazil?
mate it's not even if the fricking England yet, they don't even have to translate anything because we invented english
this but stop being a dumb dumb who can't find a link for themselves
Can't access it even with a VPN, they're giving us foreigners zero options.
oh it's on HBO max? That's good was worried they'd have to wait a month
I'll pay for HBO Max when they cut ties with Blackrock.

Pim either didn't read the message or just completely missed it
the others should have double checked it was all done long before the flight, and it is kinda bullshit that Pim had to arrange the flights and accommodation, but there must have been a reason Alan couldn't do it and sent it to Pim who then just didn't do it
That's the kind of thing you tell someone in-person.
Or Alan just sent the link with no text or anything else to tell Pim that's it up to him which makes it really Alan's fault.
They relied on Pim to get the tickets and book the hotel, really they should have split it.
Yeah I loved this episode because that's exactly how friends would react to a situation like this. As someone who's been in a similar situation that entire episode and how it played out is so relatable, especially moments like getting out of the way of other people by the escalator when we are trying to sort the issue out.
About 50 percent pin and the rest split between the others
>If he had put even two seconds of due diligence into it
The same diligence could be expected of everyone except Gleb, he can't even speak English
All of them.
This. They realize this during the episode, it's why they resolve to better prepare next time.
Why was Pim in charge of both the tickets and the hotel?
It's a rookie mistake to not have one guy on a group trip handle all the plans
>buying 4 tickets at once lets you all sit together on the plane instead of crossing your fingers and hoping you can get seats next to each other by the time everyone gets around to buying individually
>no risk of 3/4 of the people getting a room in the hotel and the slowest person being told they're all booked up
>some travel companies include perks for group orders that'd you'd miss if you all went individually
You should always have one person handle every transaction. Pim was just the wrong guy.
The Portuguese for founding that fricking Hueland in the first place
Oney
I mean he did let himself get cucked by a discord mod and a cartoon reviewer.
qrd?
He's making shit up?
Veronicaandjellys (chrises former gf) instagram stories
bs
Mostly Pim but it's dumb they relied on Pim planning most of the trip instead of dividing the work.
The creators and everyone involved in the production and advertisement of this episode for greenlighting this garbage.
hadel and cusack for churning out such a hack ep
GET IT? It's relatable to real life so that means it has to be FUNNY, RIGHT?
Yes.
That's literally the basis for a majority of comedic setups.
Are you mentally challenged?
The episode would have been tolerable if they had a laugh track and used it at the most inappropriate times. That would be a good gag.
This would make it a bit better I guess, Im just bothered on how nothing happens at all, miniscule amount of background gags about Brasil too 🙁
I knew they were gonna do this, but I didnt expect it to be that bad
it was a whole episode of nothing. such an odd episode to come back with after a year of waiting.
it wouldnt have been as bad if it was released alongside the rest of S2, or if we at least had a confirmation it was coming soon
It was likely a late April Fools episode that they didn't finish in time but decided to just throw in randomly after the season.
Also, the hell were the rest of them doing with the trip planning?
>if Alan had been designated to buy the hotel but pushed it off to Pim via text message without any confirmation, then Alan has failed.
Thank you!
Haven't seen the episode, but not pre booking a hotel isn't really that big of a deal. Just book it when you're there.
Its Marigras and most afforable hotels are booked
Maybe Cinemaphile doesn't get the jokes because nobody on this site has ever traveled?
>randomly delegate trip details to one person and have zero incentive to check in with them regarding details of flight/hotel/amenities/activities on a PLANNED trip
they are the homosexuals who never travelled
I know Zach and Chris travel because I've met them both in London during a Pico Day meetup
I didn't even know that boku no pico had its own day in london those brits go crazy lol
How much of a jackass were they at the party?
But there are so many jokes you can do on an airport! Instead its a gimmick episode, the only airport joke it had was the guy that came up to them
Most here are neets living at home, someone who visits family alot it's 100% this painful when something goes wrong
We get the joke, we're just having a discussion about whose fault it was that the trip got fricked.
While pim did frick up they shouldn’t have put all the pressure on him to book both plane and hotel and then not check to make sure everything was booked. Everyone is at fault for not thinking to put a little more effort into making sure such a big trip was properly planned and I’m glad they learned from their experience.
Brazil
Everyone but moreso Pim. Should have double checked this stuff together regardless.
Real shame too since early Rick and Morty tried to pull away from that kinda writing.
>Instead of continuing to be frustrated with Pim they forgave him and turned it into a learning experience.
or one of them holds onto it just so they can hold it over everyone's heads the next time another confrontation happens
unless that's just me being unlucky enough to have one friend in our group who's a total homosexual about everything
All of them
You're in rio during Mardi gras just party until you meet a drunk qt to take you to her place or at the very least some other tourists and crash at their hostel
Episode was shit btw, didn't laugh one time
>Doesn't reserve a hotel for the trip
>won't own up to his mistake
>reluctant to call and check with the hotel
>Blames Alan and ignores his message telling him to book the hotel
>suggests paying double or even TRIPLE for a hotel without offering to cover for the rest of the group
Someone should have double checked with Pim, but holy FRICK what a screw up
I did love this ep as it was an 11 minute shitpost
He already got the plane tickets settled and Alan was originally in charge of the hotel there's no reason for them to have expected him to do everything without telling him in person first
>something as important as renting hotel
>just send a text message and hope for the best
Yeah I think Alan is just as much to blame as Pim
While pim was in the wrong for not booking it, Alan was in the wrong for not being specific enough and everyone was in the wrong for not double checking before the trip, pim is definitely more at fault but saying it’s all pim’s fault is wrong.
the creators of this show for not making me smile once
>calling your boss for favors
I would never talk to Pim after this
I mean, why not? Businesses can write travel expenses off if it's for business. The Smiling Friends are essentially craftsmen psychotherapists, so if they provide a service to one person in Brazil, then it's legal.
>hey boss man can you give us some money?!
>Like a lot of money for our personal use?
>Like open up your checking account and send us money now!
That's not how it works, dumdum.
HOW WOULD YOU KNOW HOW IT WORKS?
Because back when I worked on Wall St., I would often go out on business trips as the technical assistant to the salesperson. And we had a travel expenses budget and we could phone in and ask for more, and then it would all get written off.
idjit
Smiling friends is a charity
And it's not like you called up the fricking CEO of your workplace to ask him personally for money
Literally yes though. It was a 50-man company on Liberty Plaza. So I would call the CEO who would tell the bookkeeper to authorize more money.
>If I say the name of the street it makes my lie authentic
I live in New York and you're a little fricking LIAR
Boss man of any company isn't going to sit around answering mundane calls
Sell me this pen
>takes all the other pens on your desk
Fifty bucks.
I always have a pen in my pocket, checkmate
>sticks pen in my butthole
I was the "technical consultant." I couldn't sell anything, lol.
The VP and CTO ran off with the money to Israel. I turned the server passwords over to Interpol and was out of the job and switched to working freelance IT for various autoshops in Brooklyn.
>The VP and CTO ran off with the money to Israel
HAVA NAGILA
Literally yes.
>Because back when I worked on Wall St
And now you're posting on Cinemaphile? What went wrong?
homie it's a recession
>recession
Actually, sweaty, it's a period of economic transition
>economic transition
economy about to 41%
Actually, that's a really good idea.
>Working on vacation
>Filling out paperwork on vacation
There's a special place in hell for people that suggest this.
I think that begs the question though, how rich is The Boss and how much money does the place actually make. Sure you write off the expenses but not until tax season. You still have to spend the money.
Smiling Friends is non-profit, right? I don't think they charge for their services. Seems like something Boss started up after achieving financial success elsewhere. This is more like his passion project.
The Boss talks about being down 2 billion dollars in revenue when the frowning friends come into town.
non profits still have to worry about that.
The Boss is also a dangerous lunatic who imagined the whole conversation, so who knows
Pim, easily. Even if he forgot, it was at least agreed upon at some point that he was in charge of getting a hotel. It was stupid of the others to not check up on everything before they left, but Pim is the one who fricked up.
The real question is, what did Pim do with the money the others gave him for the hotels.
I don’t give him any money
I mean I don’t think they gave him any money
>Traveling to ANOTHER FRICKING CONTINENT without checking absolutely everything is good to go
No one gets sympathy, they're all idiots
Don't even think critters have a high IQ as humans have.
This, when I travel overseas I always check the morning of my flight if everything's correct, one last time. You'd better be fricking sure you've got everything set when you travel that far from home. Pim should have booked the hotel yes, but everyone should have double-checked before getting on the fricking plane.
This. I get paranoid as hell if long travel plans aren't double-checked
>They never paid for the fries
That bugged me too.
Did they even eat any? I doubt a shitty airport restaurant would care that much in that case.
Glep ate some
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tujeTjUfBE
Not only did they not pay for them, they didn't even finish them. buttholes.
FRICKING THIS!
Rages me so damn much...but then i remembered theyre american and thats what they do
Yeah, they ordered a bunch of fries, AND HAD HALF AN HOUR TO FINISH THEM before the next flight, and they left them on the table WITHOUT PAYING.
Frick the smiling friends and frick Oney and co.
Fricking c**ts I hope they burn in hell.
Have you tried booking a flight in less than an hour? Youd need at least 2 hours and specially if the terminal is packed (like they said)
Then why were they in such a hurry to get to the next flight in 45 minutes (10 minutes away so they'd have like half an hour to book) if they knew it was hopeless?
I assume it can be sorted out by phone nowadays, can't it?
Only Pim's phone was in a working state for god knows what reason but yeah.
what africkin shitshow of an episode. they already had the boring ass halloween episode. seinfeld did this years ago and it wasnt funny then
>A Show About Nothing has more going on than smiling friends
It's all very random and meandering with Charlie and Pim being avatars for the creators which leaves little room for characters with more limited roles.
homie it aint moved past season 1 yet
>they never actually do their job of making others smile
literally every episode (at least the ones with clients) ends with their client smiling moron, the joke is that they get there in unexpected ways
>since they never actually do their job of making others smile.
>The little musical Buildup and Chime every smile
>3D Squeldon only got a piano key instead of a bell, signifying they didn't fully get him to smile
KINO.
I hate 3d Squelton so much it's unreal.
Maybe the 3d Squelton was really the friends we made along the way?
No, you go to hell, you go to hell and you die.
Don't you just love how every attempt to make this show look bad just make sit look better?
the people who green lit this trash
get a sense of humor
HAHAHA ITS AN ANTI JOKE GET it!? APRIL FOOLS?
Pim did nothing wrong, and I live by that.
>Charlie jokes about Glep wanting to meet sexy Brazilian ladies even though he's a married man
Is Glep an adulterer? Does he have a reputation?
If watch his facial expression, Glep gets angry at the joke
It's weird cause I see Glep as a child-like character. So it's like teasing a little kid about wanting to see sexy characters. Now I know Glep has a wife but that hasn't come up in the show. I feel like that's sappose to be like another weird joke. Like where Glep feels like a child he is actually an adult with a wife.
We saw him wih her in the Halloween ep
also her name is marge simpson
Glep gets embarrassed by the joke so it's clear Pim was just ribbing on Glep, same with the laugh he does and Charline going 'woaaah ok ok'.
Pim since it was his responsibility and he did his best to try and deflect to the "well, it's not completely my fault" excuse.
This episode reminded me of this
Man, what ever happened to drcoolsex?
>all these people saying Pim did nothing wrong
travel and accommodations are always ALWAYS a package deal
>Makes a massively costly mistake
>Refuses to fully take the blame for or acknowledge it
>Accuses everyone of ganging up on him to emotionally blackmail them into forgiveness
Pim is the worst kind of person holy shit
we've known that since shrimp
Man I remember before this came out some BR was b***hing that all the Brazil specials take place in Rio. Bet he feels stupid now.
I mean, they WERE on their way to see the big Jesus.
I think you mean "Christ the Redeemer" anon
Alan was a moron, how the frick do you tell someone to book hotel rooms by just sending them a link with no fricking message? Why couldn't he be bothered to put the bare minimum effort in communicating to Pim that he's the one in charge of hotel rooms? Pim was right to say that it was all their faults and frick them for acting like it was just Pim's fault.
Pim and Alan. You don't send a message about something that important and not check up. You also don't just read it and not confirm. The other two are blameless tbh.
w2watch?
Its not up on any kisscartroon sites
https://userload.co/f/8a6ed42e1a12
Many thanks for the dolphin porn, friend!
They were all in the wrong for not triple checking that everything was irn order before leaving, but Pim as particularly in the wrong for not owning up to his mistake and being a fricking whiny little "why are you bullying me :(" pussy about it
I'm tired of people pretending that Glep is blameless in this. It might be true but you shouldn't fricking say it without any sort of evidence.
Would this have made a better episode?
damn this fricking sucks, worst of all is that this shit happens often in certain places of brazil.
/gif/ had a very interesting brazil thread with a bunch of very unfortunate webms, like the guy who recorded his own murder and the guy who got shot in the head and the bullet hit another girl that was waiting for a bus
classic Brazil
Brazil is such a shit hole.
It would have at least been something intriguing.
The joke of that we're going to display 3rd-world danger realistically in this funny cartoon has more potential than "we're going to do nothing for 11 minutes" which has been done before.
The episode was pretty spot-on in terms of character interactions but that's all.
the joke is fricking with you, having expectations.
Couldn't fricking fight him 1v1 so he shot him like the coward pussy he is. Hope that homosexual gets whats coming to him.
I'm losing my shit over the blunt, realistic talk done by those weird ass characters.
this feels like a joke that was funnier as a half second concept, like "oh what if we do an entire episode adlibbed" but it wasn't actually funny in execution. it would've been better as a two minute gag and then 9 minutes of blank screen
...that's not the punchline of the joke. it's
>"what if we had this grand adventure to Brazil hyped up, but then the entire episode is just deliberately mundane and realistic conversations in the airport before they decide to go home?"
It's not a good joke if nearly everyone saw it coming a week prior, and especially when it's one of the most common premises done in adult cartoons for nearly 2 decades.
I didn't see any promo shit, I just saw that there was a new episode and watched it. so that's all I got out of it
That just means you saw the punchline without the setup.
Not really, since the episode is named The Smiling Friends go to Brazil.
glep!
I love his little suit case
is there a MEGA yet?
I mean Pim should've booked them a hotel but the fact that no one double checked him and just expected him to handle so much is on them.
They expected the same guy to both book the flight and hotel and not verbally ask him about it when they work with him?
Maybe they just paid at the register.
This episode sucked the only highlight was that they never actually did anything and just stayed in the airport
Then it's 100% highlight.
Horrible episode. Who finds this shit funny?
I too am moronic
They should’ve checked everything beforehand, or spend some time actually looking at hotels instead of immediately leaving
>spend some time actually looking at hotels
Oh, no, they were truly fricked.
you homosexuals for spamming these threads
Pim's frick up is forgivable but the way he tries to deride or share the guilt was fricking bad
All of them for not knowing for sure the hotel was booked. Even if someone else is supposed to do it, I'm still gonna confirm that they did. No one even cared to check where they'd be staying? That's everyone's business.
I just got back from WDW and if I watched this before, it would have given me the WORST anxiety.
Go back to disney you nazi cuck.
Buy a bumpersticker while you're there that says "demisexual is a gender"
I laughed really hard at how normal the boss sounded on the phone.
Me too honestly, he sounded concerned.
Surprised he didn’t know anybody down there but I guess since Stevos dad quit being the ceo of Pepsi Brazil boss hasn’t been down there
>Pim was in charge of both plane tickets AND the hotel
I mean it's technically Pim's fault but what the frick did the other guys even do then? It doesn't sound like they booked anything because of the way they were formulating plans while they got off the plane so did they just push all the responsibilities onto him? Makes them out to be buttholes
Everybody. They all should have done a better job of communicating & made it clear WHO was in charge of doing WHAT, then gotten together before the trip to make sure everything was in place.
No one seems to be talking about the crashing airplane at the end of the episode.
That’s just normal Brazil
aw man this episode was worse than the time the smiling friends couldnt go see the Big Jesus
Uh, I think you mean Christ The Redeemer, anon.
after seeing Alan count all the paper clips in the office like an autistic sperg, he comes off as the type that would triple check to see if everything is good to go, weekly, before the trip.
Glepp is the only one not at fault they asked him to go and he even left his wife Marge at home just so he could spend some time with the boys he also is the only one who bothered to eat any of the fries Charlie ordered and then didn’t pay for
I didn't get the Jesus joke.
Most people just know it as the big Jesus statue even though it has an actual name.
I know its a joke but it really frustrates me to imagine four guys paying for tickets to Brazil, and then deciding to go straight home when they don’t have a hotel booked
Brazil is a dangerous country dude, did you see that weirdo asking them if they had money? He could've pulled something out on them.
are you a tourist
They were tourists, yeah.
>Glep never got to check out those Brazilian babes
Dark times.
Pim and Alan are homosexuals.
They didn't need a hotel to stay at to just go to the beach check out some girls, come on!
Wait, I guess they did, they need a place for their bags.
He's married, you incel
the airport waitress was a qt and nice
What a great episode
Felt pretty family guy to me
I think Charlie took this remarkably well.
What a fricking loser
>What a fricking loser
you're a namegay on Cinemaphile
Imagine seeing someone enjoy something and thinking "man, frick that guy."
Where exactly do you think you are anon?
You said it, billy!
11 minutes of arguing in an airport = amazingly unique and nuanced comedic twist
It was a glorified Family Guy cutaway gag
>HEY LOIS REMEMBER THE TIME WE WENT TO BRAZIL AND I FORGOT TO MAKE THE HOTEL RESERVATIONS
FG cutaway gags are shot, this lasted more than 10 minutes
>it was so realistic I almost felt like I had real friends for a second
You should never as an artist pretend your work is "good". It comes off as pretentious and now after seeing S1 of Smiling Friends it's not even classic Oney or Cusack animation so Zach should STFU
But OneyPlays had actual funny moments
Everyone but Pim for expecting him to take care of all the planning and never even check with him
Pim is innocent cause I wanna frick him.
I just like zach's voice and I don't have to pay for it so it's a win win
Chances that they'll make a real episode as a follow-up, or would that ruin it?
Rick and Morty Black folk hating this episode just makes it even funnier. Neck yourselves.
>Rick and Morty joke episode
>It's considered by some to be a masterpiece and one of the best episodes in the show
>Smiling Friends joke episode
>It's actually a joke
>Both are made by the same person
>Both are made by the same person
??????????????
He's talking about Bushworld Adventures and Smiling Friends both being made by Michael Cusack.
So it's now Alan's fault? Frick off Pimgay.
No it's everyone's fault for being stupid with how they organized.
Frick you Pim
If your going to put someone in charge of reserving the hotel, you need it receive vocal conformation on more than one occasion
What the frick did he do to be so hated?
Not the anon but...
> he was a huge prick to everyone the entire time
You can figure it out.
My entire life is one big cringe anon.
They really should have.
>made fun of everyone's music choices
Now I know why when I was in college I had no friends.
Every time you see a sitcom episode with that exact plot, do you cringe inside?
They should've excommunicated you too
Your friends seems like passive-aggressive c**ts if they didn't make their dislike of him clearer, but you're a moron if you actually invited him without even telling ther other before.
This was around 10 years ago anons. They're not my friends anymore precisely because of shit like this.
Because they were being cliquey mean girls and nice to his face but they didn't really like him and they knew I was too kind for my own good.
Both. People who are cruel to you aren't actually your friends.
you and your friends, like anon said, are passive aggressive. it's very common in boards like these. you need to sit him down and tell him what his problem is, not talk shit behind his back whilst laughing along when he's around
yes i am projecting my ex-friends with this
if anything at least anon was trying to be a good friend and all his friends are shitheads.
You’re known by the company you keep. They all sound like shit heads
>because they all actually hated him but no one told me.
Why wouldn't they tell you that?
>and I never lived it down
What exactly does this entail? Is it merely playful ribbing or do they hang it over you anytime you get into an argument with them? If the second, that shit's fricked up because even if you did something hasty the resulted in terrible consequences, it's not like you had bad intent.
>After that he was completely excommunicated from our friends group entirely and I never lived it down.
Because that's a thing normal adults too. Don't be surprised if your friends turn on you one day too.
They didn't even tip the Brazilian waitress wtf?!!?
Reminds me of when I booked a flight to Nippon, and somehow fricked things up so the flight returned to a different airport than the one we left.
Wouldn't have been a problem if my friend didn't have his car parked at the first airport
The plane crash at the end probably stranded them there for at least a day or two.
He flinched.
>YOU GOT CASH
Seriously what would've happened if they said yes?
Given that they were still in the airport, he would have harassed them until they gave him some money or until they went to find some airport authorities.
If they were outside the airport, they'd be dead.
Hoenstly, was probably looking to convert it to Real, people do that all the time in airports. Guy could have been nice and just weird, could have been weird and wanted to rob the/rip them off, 50/50 honestly.
Alan for shirking his responsibility onto Pim via text, then never confirming or following up that Pim had actually received the text or booked the hotel.
Pim acted like a passive aggressive Australian c**t. Just own up that you forgot to book the hotel rooms.
I really liked Charlie's expression when Pim suggested begging their boss for money.
genuine discomfort
Pim for not double checking and others for not double triple checking him.
zach and michael for wasting our fricking time
You know what, I love the show and Zach and Michael are both tremendously funny dudes, but for the amount of shit Zach gives people for doing lame, cliché jokes like "Oh hi I didn't see you there" and "what if Mario do drugs", I'm really disappointed that they would make a "bait and switch the characters actually do nothing" episode.
That's also what I was thinking. Maybe they think this is somehow a clever twist on that twist?
I don't know much about these ecelebs but if they really thought a terrible family guy sketch stretched out to 11 minutes was some trailblazing comedy then they clearly aren't very aware of the whole "comedy scene".
Maybe this video encapsulates the humor well.
>Zach does some randumb bit where the humor is in the antihumor being hyped up and played straight
>cut to the straight man saying this is terrible and transition to more random talk, with the humor coming from the let down
But with this episode there was no one telling him it's a terrible family guy skit and instead it was stretched out to infinity instead of making fun of its absurd lack of humor.
It's also the kind of deadpan joke I make with friends but it's simply the kind of thing that works in that format and nowhere else.
There are two options the way I see it. This was a genuine attempt at humor or this was a bottle episode.
Charlie and Alan for thinking Pim is capable of doing anything right
Pim's is at fault but the others not checking up on Pim was bad too.
Like seriously, they didn't even ask how much the hotel cost?
If it included meals?
It's not like flying to a different state, they went to a whole different entire nation, you seriously aren't even going to follow how things are going?
I'm in Europe and planning to go to a different place as well, I'm always double checking things weekly, even though I will depart new year, because I'd rather make sure everything is smooth now than having to worry when I'm there.
are Zack and Michael actually cokeheads or is that a meme
yes
Maybe at one point, but Zach very vocally tries to live a healthy life now.
>Zach lies about having a healthy life
Ftfy
Yea why do you think they get stuff done while Chris Pothead O’Neil gets cucked and is to lazy to play video games
I'm assuming this episode is just the creators wanting to piss off the audience the most they could possibly think of
Based
All of them as far as I'm concerned unless they expected Pim to pay for the hotel rooms himself. They never messaged him asking how much the rooms cost so they could pay for the room?
So how long until adult swim gives cocaine hadel the boot?
>We see Charlie’s girlfriend(?) from the Halloween episode again
>An episode satirizing internet reviewers with Doug Walker voicing a character
>An episode where Australia is involved somehow
I don't know.
I'm not the target audience that laughs his head off at characters having realistic conversations so what they do isn't really up my alley but I wish the creators well.
Charlie riding in on bike and then doing the Akita slide, just to piss off cuck o’neil.
akira slide*
An episode about Charlie getting a internet copyright notice for torrenting too much
Is it really better to do a flight back in this scenario or was that part of the gag
