I my personal experience we weren't colorblind, in fact everyone was acutely aware. I think though people were way less sensitive and jokes were all in good fun.
I can remember being a sophomore in highshcool and some white football player got into a fight with a black dude outside, which he won. For the rest of the year everyone, including the black kids, called him "Tyler KKK" in good fun. It was a nickname everyone embraced and a name earned in battle.
Said black kid was also on the football team and they were actually friends. It was one of those fights boys have before they get over it two days later.

Should Malcom have just listened? Probably, but he wasn't doing it to be lazy, he was trying to be a good worker.
Also, part of why it was so frustrating is Lois constantly stands up for what she believes in and calls out unfair or illogical bullshit. She raised Malcom to do the smart thing, and then punishes him when he does. Not to mention, she didn't give him a chance to get his own job, she just signed him up for hers.

She is often too unreasonable and uncaring.

When has she ever told the kids she loves them? When has she ever shown affection to them? She looks out for their well-being but otherwise is needlessly cold. It's no wonder her kids all have problems.

Ever wonder why Hal is the only happy person in the house? Because he's the only one Lois shows any warmth towards

Here's where she tells Francis. But she does. You just need to watch the show. It's rare but it's impactful. She's a tough mom, she clearly fricking cares about the boys, and she shows it. Why do you think they all rally to beat up the clowns for her at the ballpark? Or take on Hal's side of the family when they leave her out of the family photo? They're not a lovey dovey family. But Lois loves and respects the kids and is only human doing what's best for them.

Hal is the happiest because he's getting laid on a regular basis, Francis immediately gets better when he starts banging that hottie.

Yes, the show is about a low income family. That's kind of the point, they have to be impoverished. If they were all geniuses who were rich it wouldn't be very funny. It would lose all empathy you have for the characters. There are plenty of times in the show where they are offered more money and can't/don't take it. Y'know exactly like how the Simpsons were poor and had money troubles, and now don't and everyone hates them because of it.

Nah, in the episode where Hal's sleepwalking, when Reese tells him that he thought that Malcolm was Hal's guy, Hal replies: "The smart one scares me." I'd say the genius comes from Lois and the mischievousness comes from Hal.

That’s realistic, though. Poor people are fricking stupid. Especially poor people that could be middle class if they didn’t have so many kids. Were they Catholic or something?

No they were fricking so much it caused them to neglect just about everything. No contraceptive is bulletproof so they had some kids

Unless they were using the rhythm method, they would have had fewer children if they had been using contraception.

the reality is that all parents are shit though, nobody knows what they are doing and being an abusive shit is an easy way to feel like you're 'parenting'. especially your mom in particular.

Hal and Lois are a hell of a lot better than my parents. I'd rate them pretty good. They remind me of Roseanne and Dan Conner. They're tough but they love their kids and make an effort to raise them right.

Malcolm was right, as a businessman you should want your business to be ran as efficiently as possible. By following Malcolm's method, they could've saved time for important profitable task

large corporates arent interested in your attempts at being efficient. They want the job done the way you're told to do it.

And there was probably some OSH reason for not flattening them in the loading dock.

This episode is basically the exact experience you will have working as a wagie in a store.

malcolm was right, but eventually you learn it doesn’t matter if you’re right as long as the boss is happy. In fact enjoy your long time wasting process, because that means there will be more work for longer while you’re still collecting the same amount of pay. If you want someone who stacks boxes more efficiently, just get a different job

Lois absolutely. Lois is one of those c**ts that failed to be successful in life so she ends up being a dick sucker to management and rats out her own damn son for breaking the most moronic rule in the company. Not only that, Malcolm told her it was an accident and pleaded with her not to report him

    Malcolm was being dumb here.

If a job is making you do something in an inefficient way that makes your life harder, fine, that's a grievance, though you generally can't do anything about it and need to just deal with it or quit.

However, this is a retail job. He is paid by the hour. Flattening boxes is not difficult, it's just boring. Seeing as he's there for lets say 8 hours anyway, if he is not flattening boxes they will almost certainly have him doing something equally boring. So it does practically not advantage him in any way to get the box flattening done faster. He may as well just do it the slow way and let it kill as much of the shift as it can.

What's going on is entirely based on his own ego, where he's frustrated at being forced to do something in a less intelligent way, by someone he views as dumb but who has power over him, because his self esteem is entirely based on academic intelligence. This is really dysfunctional and oversensitive, an inability to function to his own advantage based on an extremely inflated yet extremely delicate ego.
