I never got why people think Lucky getting his GED is any reason to think any more highly of him. Yes, what Peggy did was scummy, but either way, Lucky was only getting his GED to fulfill his moronic "code of honor", not because he was planning on actively doing anything with it He was still planning to just keep on living off of the Costco pee pee money.

Bettering yourself is an indicator for progress and commitment. The reasoning can be whatever. Peggy while I understand her reasoning I cant fully agree with. Shes an educator even if it is part time, sabotaging lucky is wrong no matter what. If she had a low opinion of him he would have failed on his own and everybody moves on, hell lucky and luanne would have divorced making everybody happy.

She wasn't intelligent, just skilled in blue-collar stuff. If you've ever been around rednecks you'd know they tend to be good at that stuff because they have to be; they can't afford to buy new stuff or pay someone to fix their stuff. Redneck girls tend to be tomboys because they have to help their dads and brothers out around the house. Doesn't mean they have the acumen to run a business.

It's such an easy one they could have thrown in at any time during the series and it would have been funny, but to have the patience to let it build for the entire series really makes you appreciate the character development and this shows dedication to being a tv show and not just a sitcom

          It's that early?
Frick me I just watched it and the manic khanday episode back to back, it's in my folder as season 12.

after watching the series over and over and over again, i've come to the point where it's hard to watch because the main cast infuriates me, specifically hank and peggy

    Hank
    >moronic prude, can't even hug his mom at the airport or hold his wife's hand in public
    >will never call out his boss because he's in love with him, even though he's mistreated at work despite being the hardest worker (reset vacation days when he quit to get rid off the drug addict, framed for murder)
    >never stands up to his "friends" even when they wrong him
    >will never call out his wife on being moronic/wrong
    >moronicly stands up for people even when they don't deserve it, or even actively deserve the opposite (wizard of sod)
    >will never stand up to his dad until it's too late, but then it resets every time he visits (calling his mom old/tired at thanksgiving, woman's work, etc)

    Peggy
    >can't speak spanish, but thinks she's an expert to the point where she's willing to risk her life in mexican court over it
    >thinks she knows everything, is infuriating to be around (spapeggy and meatballs)
    >gets herself into trouble despite being warned not to (prison cocaine, intelligence institute)
    >when by a miracle her terrible situation get's solved (no cocaine evidence, stealing the room safe), she acts like she was right in saying she could handle herself without acknowledging she got herself into that mess in the first place
    >babies bobby too much (first boy girl party, first Jack haircut)

To me, Hank's worst parenting moment was when he forced Bobby to quit the dog poop removal business
        >Bobby is clearly enjoying it and the guy he works for is shown to be a genuinely good person who's incredibly successful on his own terms
        >When pressed, Hank can't think of a single thing wrong with what he's doing besides being vaguely uncomfortable
        >He talks Bobby's boss into lying about being bullied and beaten up for what he does
        >Bobby immediately agrees and sides with Hank
Just all around terrible behavior from Hank and an example that he doesn't truly support Bobby unless he's doing something Hank approves of.

          Anonymous

Yeah, that is pretty awful when you think about it. Hank is definitely a stay in your lane kind of guy but the insinuation Bobby couldn't be successful and benefit from a clearly enjoyable and lucrative career because he's not the chad type to pull it off is a bit cruel.

I honestly think it was the writers getting lazy and writing themselves into a corner. Earlier in the show they would have revealed that Bobby's boss was an awful person in some way but they went to that well too many times.

              Anonymous

They could've had the same revelation for Bobby without Hank intervening. If Hank reluctantly accepts it's what Bobby wants to do and supports him then Bobby finds people repulsed by him he could be like "I don't get it, why aren't people grossed by you like they are me, Pete?" Pete could give him some platitudes about sticking to it and then Bobby could notice the same photo of him and Peter and reach the same conclusion that it's not for him, at least yet. I get what they're going for but it doesn't really land when you think about it.

I thought this at first watch. But in reality it's hank rescuing Bobby from the naivety of Bobby and the jonnyknockville. He took to heart the lesson jonny taught him, do what nobody else wants to. Remember when he's cleaning puke for a quarter? Jonny in character and real life is insanely lucky and does shit nobody else wants and is rich as hell, it worked for him, it wasn't bad advice intentionally it is however bad advice to a young boy. In reality your the kids cleaning puke for a quarter or featured on bumfights.

You morons missed the entire point of that episode. The poop guy worked because he already a sociable Chad with a lot of natural charisma that counteracts his profession. Bobby is well Bobby and that job would only make life more difficult for him

Exactly, it’s one of the more honest episodes later in the show’s run. Peter Sterling can do what he does because he’s tall, attractive, and good with people. He would be successful at anything he does, or so it’s implied. Bobby has failed at so many things and lacks all those qualities Peter has. But regardless of all that, really I think Hank would prefer Bobby learning something more useful while he is young. Are you really going to let your son spend his formative years making money by doing what is essentially equivalent to janitorial work? Then all your son will be good for is a janitor.

Hank literally says it: “Look Peter, you’re a tall, handsome, well-put-together guy. And forgive me for saying this, but you’re very enchanting. I’m guessing you never had trouble getting dates. And you probably never had a cruel nickname stick to you. Everyone likes you. My son likes you. So a guy like you can pull of a career like this.”

It’s just the way it is; I know several guys like this in real life. Like it or not, being tall, good looking and well-spoken can get you very far as a man.

That's what hank needed to say to the incredible niave rich guy who won the fricking lottery by getting tasered in the balls and filming it who thinks anybody can make it if you follow your dream. Problem is he made Bobby think the dream is cleaning puke for change, it's a terrible lesson for a boy. It's not even a boomer thing, Bobby wants to clean shit? That's his passion? No he wants to be rich and respected, many ways to do that not cleaning shit, doing something you enjoy for instance. Knocksville giving that advice was just wrong. Lookism was just the way hank convinces him of that.

He's like a 10year old kid, it would be a super good experience for him to try and create his own business like that.
Hank is actually mad at a fricking 10 year old kid for getting his hands dirty.

Yeah, but hank wants him to learn something useful like woodworking, auto-shop, etc. You learn how to wipe your ass and clean up after yourself at like five years old - Bobby doing as a 'career' that wouldn't have taught him much.

Remember when Hank guilt tripped Bobby because Bobby felt uncomfortable wearing women's clothing and didn't want to act like a woman?

To be fair, it was Powerderpuff football, which is a big tradition in a lot of football towns. Hank loves footballs and anytime Bobby can be a part of Arlen football, so naturally he encouraged it. But remember, he also tells Bobby "You know after this is all done you can't keep doing this, right?".

Bobby's level of charisma and popularity is something that changes regularly depending on what they need for the episode. Sometimes he's a loser whose only friends are Connie and Joseph, and other times he has the entire school eating out of his hand and gets dates with attractive girls.

      It’s mentioned:

The archaeologist guy is a douche.
Probably the ex Cowboy player, because he was actively a piece of shit. He lied, manipulated, intimidated, destroyed stuff, got the cops on his side, etc. Real dick head and the only time in the series I recall Hank getting punched.

This. At a certain point characters of the week and even main/recurring characters are just massive pieces of shit often for no discernable reason.

Also I haven't seen him mentioned yet but the cop voiced by Fred Willard is an butthole too.

Was the football coach that coached Bobby's team a bad guy?

Hanks old coach is a crazy dude, yeah. But I believe the rest of Bobby’s coaches were fine.
