Based. Not sure why people on here suck this book off so much.

It's a great novel, which is why it's so popular. And because it's popular you sadsack snobs resort to calling it "reddit", not judging the work for its inherent worth but seeing it strictly through the lens of how cool it is to like it. And I agree that it's not cool to like Blood Meridian, everyone has read it, but it's a great book.

Explain yourself. McCarthy wrote it like a 10 year old kid tells a story. Meandering, pointless, not sure of the point its trying to make with occasional forays into juvenile humor. What did you enjoy about it?

Nice run on sentence, you fricking hack. Only McCarthy could bore you with this degree of violence.

      >A and B and C and D and E and F and G and H and I and J and K and ....
      It's like a kid telling a story
      >and then and then and then and then oh yeah and also and then..
MccorHACk is a midwit writer for midwits

The run-on sentence is apt here, the breathless cadence is what you want in retelling a sudden orgy of violence, and still the prose manages to be rich, vernacular, erudite. But if you want violence narrated in banal ass prose just stick to American Psycho.

And now the horses of the dead came pounding out of the smoke and dust and circled with flapping leather and wild manes and eyes whited with fear like the eyes of the blind and some were feathered with arrows and some lanced through and stumbling and vomiting blood as they wheeled across the killing ground and clattered from sight again. Dust stanched the wet and naked heads of the scalped who with the fringe of hair below their wounds and tonsured to the bone now lay like maimed and naked monks in the bloodslaked dust and everywhere the dying groaned and gibbered and horses lay screaming.

If you dont understand Cormac McCarthy's depiction of life and the universe youre not going to appreciate it but to me its massive in scope
      >War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner
Judge is great but you also have characters like Glanton which are delivered with such subtlety that they can have the most minor of dialog feel like a deep exploration of the man's heart and soul

Mel Gibson needs to be Glanton. Make Costner play a villain for once as ex-preacher actual villain corrupting the kid Tobin. Get Christian Bale on doing his Hostiles thing.

Vincent d'onofrio would be borderline perfect

      He could do it.

      1970s Marlon Brando.

Another reason why it shouldn't be adapted to film. Brando and Apocalypse Now are the baseline.

they need to be able to play an enigmatic villain, ideally one that is fat and towers over people, anyone can shave their head bald, Judge is a charismatic figure bottom line so the actor needs to seem like someone that could intellectually talk circles around anyone and like a switch you never see coming turn into an aspect of chaos

He got straight out murdered, yes.

The point of the last scene is that whatever happened was considered too gruesome to show in a book that had not till that point strayed away from showing brutality. So he would have to have been super raped and super murdered.

I assumed that he got raped and murdered, then his dead body got stuffed into the outhouse hole head first.

I read and enjoyed Blood Meridian before it was adopted by the tasteless mainstream horde. I'm always ahead of the game, it's kind of crazy. My whole life has been like that.

How did you enjoy Blood Merdian? Sincere question. I thought it was unreadable.

Explain yourself. McCarthy wrote it like a 10 year old kid tells a story. Meandering, pointless, not sure of the point its trying to make with occasional forays into juvenile humor. What did you enjoy about it?

    Russel Crowe.

This wins right? All the others are memes and not feasible. Russel Crowe is the perfect cast and could happen in our lifetime.

That's just a fatsuit, Crowe got fat for Body of Lies and then realized he never wanted to do that for a role again so he just wears fatsuits now. Anyone can wear a costume.

Why did the judge kill and rape the kid?

      Anonymous

The judge saw the kid as the perfect person to mold into basically another version of himself. The problem was that the kid wouldn't fully commit himself to the judge's philosophy.

It's left up to your imagination but the way the scene is described and the reaction of the two passerbys indicates that something horrible happened.
Mccarthy wants to make the reader think all kinds of horrible shit happened to the kid, which means all the worst things that could possibly happen happened to the kid.
imo it's another christ analogy. The whole crucifixion, thorns, being betrayed, etc. is basically to drive home to readers of the bible that one aspect of the story of jesus christ is basically "the worst things happen to the best possible person".
And mccarthy wants the same kind of ending for the kid, without explicitly saying it.
      >inb4 hurr durr the kid isnt christ
The kid isnt JUST christ but there are way to many similarities to christ and biblical references to pretend otherwise like the leonid meteor shower heralding the birth of the kid and the kin of his father being known as hewers of wood and drawers of water.
