The corallians have the same annihilation spheres as the festum, but they also have broken reality warping abilities that I don’t think festum are capable of.
Things like breaking space time and causing black holes and creating alternate dimensions just by existing.
They were asleep for most of E7 and still caused huge problems.

Near the end in the 40s.

Coralians weren't breaking space time and causing black holes because of their abilities. If humans existed in the numbers that coralians did they would've caused the same problems. The entire gimmick of E7 was that physics was breaking down because Dai Sato doesn't understand what quantum observation actually means and thought it meant if too many observers in the universe exist it breaks reality with different observations of reality being unable to coexist.
The festum, on the other hand, were getting more and more bullshit as they absorbed the data of humanity and kept coming up with new variants of reality and physics breaking bullshit. Their entire existence is basically anti-matter lifeforms from beyond the information singularity, which was just season 1 bullshit. The movie ramped up their bullshit reality warping, and then they went crazy with it in Exodus while also giving every Fafner pilot some kind of physics and reality bending power.
Shit, Canon literally had to fight across multiple timelines in order to delete every timeline they don't succeed in defending the island.
Then you have the extra bullshit in Beyond.

From my understanding in E7 it was never mentioned that the “limit of questions” was something that was just the result of raw population growth.

It was stated to result either from just the observations of corallians.
Or some incompatibility with those of humans and corallian existing in close proximity.

I don’t think Sato necessarily misunderstood it, but rather he just lifted the plot point from blood music.
It’s also probably just better to go with the inaccurate concept if it works for the story better.

And then there’s also the whole leaving to another universe thing they do at the end.

Corallian abilities get expanded in the sequels but I’d rather not acknowledge that.

Festum. At least, so long as you don't bring in the E7 sequels.

Tech seems way, way higher in Fafner to me. And the Festum are a serious threat regardless. Even against lower tech the Coralian antibodies are just fodder with high numbers. The thing that actually makes the Coralian dangerous is an aspect of the fiction's setting that should actually apply to any sentient species in high enough numbers.

Festum were entirely head back by their lack of imagination and understanding of the physical world. The more they understood the more they were able to use their powers.

Initial Festum were strong enough to push humanity to the edge of extinction while barely understanding anything about the universe. The moment they started understanding physicals and emotional concepts their power levels skyrocketed. Wormspheres and physical assimilation are bad enough, but then they started realizing they could freeze things, melt things or even use light to assimilate. They began understanding deception, wars of attrition, psychological warfare and starvation warfare. The more data Mir is able to collect the more dangerous Festum become. The point where the majority of Festum are able to develop true individuality like humans rather than a small minority would be the day humanity goes extinct because Festum's win on firepower and volume every time, they only lose fights due to lack of understanding proper application. You have stuff like Roadrunner that could literally constantly generate nuclear hellfire who if it'd had been serious from the start of it's attack on Ashoka, there would have been nothing for Kazuki and Soushi to save. You had Roadrunner choosing attrition warfare against the island rather than blitzing the moment the Sein and Nicht were off the island when nobody realized it moved through water. The Azazel types were way too cautious with just how much overpowering their fire power was but that's entirely because all the Festum were stuck on how Soushi and Tsubaki taught them to wage war

That's only if all of those Festum conceptualize thrmselves around hatred, mind. It's far more likely that most will end up curious about humanity or branch off to do their own thing.
