i think one scene where she admits how complicated the situation is would have helped. paul is using them to gain revenge but he is also there only hope for surivival. the fact that she stands up to protest a war meeting despite the harkonnens obliterating one of their sietches would make her a traitor.

In the movies it seems like they could wage desert warfare forever. Or least Harkonnen would need a massive campaign against them.
The movie does a really poor job at explaining the whole situation. Do the fremen just want to live free on Arrakis? Or do they want to conquer the galaxy, or terraform the planet, or something?
They clearly believe the land is theirs. The great houses need the planet for spice. They will never truly own the land when this is so and therefore will be marginalised by merciful houses and hunted by ruthless one. Paul becoming emperor is the only way they will have the ability the roam as independent citzens under an imperial pretext which satisfies the houses. THis of course is false pretence but better than nothing. You will also note they want the land to becomes a green paradise but what happens to worms in water?

Fremen had no danger of been eradicated. War was bloody and they had all reasons to hate Harkonnen, but war was bloody for Harkonnen no less, and they had no resources and power to defeat Fremen, Harkonnen couldn't even outbid Freemen and buy satellites from Navigators to launch to southern regions...
Freemen followed Paul because he fits Missionaria Protectiva legend perfectly (because he IS The Kwisatz Haderach). But religious and "Aryan supremacy" angles are no no for libkeks so nuDune flick trails away form that.

All of the criticism of Paul as a white savior exploiting the Fremen comes from his own internal monologue, something you can't really capture on screen. Making Chani the voice of that criticism is a big change, but I think it's one that captures Frank's original intentions of Dune better than other adaptations

Denis obviously didnt trust audiences to understand that Paul is using the fremen for his own purposes and therefore had Chani spell it out for them. He therefore inserted a classic trading substance for success storyline.
luckily enough,you can cut 90% of her scenes, and the movie will have the same coherence,which is very little.

Dune was so fricking shit.. i could barely sit through the first movie. There's just no depth at all, just goes straight into action with barely any character development. My friends decided to do a watch party and then see the second one. I'm so glad i didn't go i would've been pissed if i had to sit through the first one and then pay for the second. Star wars is better.

I feel like I’m going crazy listening to people praise these movies for being slightly less slop than other current year slop. The fact is they’re adapted from one of, if not THE, best series of sci-fi novels ever written. The bar is higher than a Godzilla or capeshit or Fastshit movie.
These are awful adaptations, as bad if not worse than Lynch’s in their own way. At least his had some occasional visual flair and a charming lead actor.
