Strange was obviously being nerfed by plot that entire “fight”. Compare it to when Strange is going for the kill on Thanos and it’s really easy to infer he’s just treating Peter with kiddy gloves cause he doesn’t wanna nuke his fellow partner in crime into a gorey mist over a book. It’s nowhere near as impressive as all the gymnastics and high speed travel that goes on in the Spiderverse fights.

2099 jobbed to Miles. Wouldn't MCU Peter beat him too? He took on Thanos and beat Dr. Strange.

Equating escaping and being able to beat leads to ridiculous conclusions. 2099 is stronger than Miles, narratively we can tell that since Miles is both intimidated by 2099 and runs from him. Being able to escape Miguel was due to outsmarting him (also help from the sympathetic cast like when Gwen(?) webbed someone about to attack Miles' blindside and Peter talked to him instead of capturing him). If you think outsmarting and escaping means someone is stronger than another, do you also think that MCU Peter is stronger than the Dr. Strange because he was able to trick him and escape using math?

            >Equating escaping and being able to beat leads to ridiculous conclusions
You got your mind stuck on Death Battle.

The point of 1v1 matchups is to use their intellect to fight, not feats or powers. Miguel may seem stronger, but he isn't very intelligent like other Spiders, or for Miles case, cunning. Whenever a Spider meets a villain he can't out-punch (like Hulk or Hydro-Man) he has to outsmart them. Here Miles won on Miguel's own terf, using his own machine, and outrunning his personal army. In a real Death Battle, Miles would've outsmarted Miguel to his own death because Miguel obviously underestimated the kid with "no plan".

              Anonymous

              >Miles would've outsmarted Miguel to his own death because Miguel obviously underestimated the kid with "no plan".
I understand your point, but these situations aren't analogous. Firstly if it was a fight to the death rather than just to detain Miles, Miguel would likely be more cautious of what Miles can do. He would also be more ruthless, such as when he had him pinned on the train. In a real fight getting pinned like that is pretty much over, Miguel could kill Miles faster than Miles could activate his Venom Blast. Cunning can only go so far, and in this case it got Miles his win condition of being able to make it to the dimensional portal, but saying if the win condition was different he could use that same cunning to kill Miguel is falling into a no limits fallacy. I may juke out a tiger if it backs me into a corner, but that doesn't mean I'll "outsmart" it enough to break its neck or whatever. Different win conds rely on different strengths. Miles doesn't have anything in his arsenal that could put Miguel down permanently, while Miguel does.

                Anonymous

I get it. Right now, it looks like a stalemate between the two. It could've ended with Miles being pushed to the edge, absorbing all of 2099's suit energy and then blasting both of them while Miguel bites into his neck, killing them both. The same Miles that tanked Kingpin's combos, fought dirty by attacking Olivia Ock while being invisible, and then beat Spot twice on his first encounters. (When in canon, Spot is supposed to beat Spider-Man).

As of Miguel, sure, he'd be ruthless but he relies on brute force instead of tactics. He fights like Venom and we know how that goes. When is he ever cautious?

          Anonymous

Tobey beat the shit out of Green Goblin once he stopped holding back. That was also him in Spider-Man 1! He didn't need an Iron Man suit to do it either. Literally had Goblin begging on the floor. MCU Peter on the otherhand got easily slapped around by Doc Ock and got overpowered by Tobey Peter. Tobey Peter wasn't even putting his all in it either.

Miguel's powerset is objectively weaker than the average Spider (no spider-sense even), since back when he was created it wasn't really a dick measuring contest. Nowadays with characters like Miles or other legacy teenage characters I guess the writers feel obligated to make them baseline more powerful than the originals because... it will make them more likeable, I guess?

      >no spider-sense

Spider-Sense strength depends on the Spider-Man. Tobey and MCU's are top tier near future vision for them. MCU's can do it with his eyes closed. Andrew gets beaten up all the time and is too slow to be guaranteed to save others with it.
vMiles has near-perfect Spider-sense to out sense every other Spider in a building. Check the scene when he jumps down the factory again while every other spider gets filtered out by the machinery.

      >Effortlessly
Dude literally got his ass beat for multiple minutes near the end of the chase sequence and only “won” by zapping him off of him and escaping via invisibility. I genuinely want to know what would have made that encounter less “effortless” while still having him escape.

Strongest movie Spider-Man is Tobey, if we're talking about comics then I don't really know, there are way too many Spider-People

Toby Spider-Man has had the greatest show of strength of any non extra powered up spider.

Why didn't they even bother having Holland show up after name dropping him?

Having Holland there would easily double their movie budget, do you know how expensive that British twink is?

I started to read Mile’s comics since I liked the movies and holy fricking shit are they lame as frick. The comic version of Aaron is a fricking fedora tipping neck beard. I have no fricking idea how they managed to make him as cool and menacing as he was in the movies when THIS is what they were working with.

      >Miles had bad comics, great movies
      >Hulk has good comics, bad MCU movies
There was a trade-off. But maybe it's also because Sony writes better capeshit than Disney.

From what I can tell Miguel is right, isn't he? I mean, assuming this is a real dilemma with actual consequences and stakes it sounds like he's doing the right thing. I didn't hear anyone pose a rebuttal to him besides "I'm do my own thang" and "I'm spiderman". So why shouldn't I root for him? Why should I consider him the bad guy?

I mean, if canon events can be broken safely such as how Gwens cop father isn't going to die anymore then I don't see why an anomaly can't engrain itself so much into a reality that it is no longer a threat to universal stability

him not being captain is the canon event. When Gwen leaves with Miguel and the other lady, the little watch says like "canon protected" or some shit confirming that the canon event wasn't disturbed. If him not being captain changes the canon, Miguel would have gotten Gwen first and THEN gone to Miles' universe.

If you didnt figure it out, there aren't any consequences and stakes beyond "im spider-man, ima do mah own thing". Unless they go the "saving miles dad ends up killing miles mom to avoid reality shitting itself" or "because miles and the spot, their entire universe is anomalous and thus exempt from spiderverse canon" or some shit to justify miles saving his dad.
Of course, this means that free will is fricked in all universes but Miles, but hey they wrote themselves into that hole

Free will was kind of fricked the moment they wrote themselves a multiverse

        >free will is fricked in all universes but Miles, but hey they wrote themselves into that hole
Kinda ruins the point of capeshit if they justify being a hero as running a script to whatever the writers want them to do. They could go even more meta to have Spot vs Miles in the MCU or the "real world" just to have someone at Marvel rewrite the script and force the canon to be whatever they want.

      >Why should I consider him the bad guy?
I don't think we need to consider Miguel a "bad guy" since thats running into simplifying the conflict too much. Its nuanced, and we are supposed to see it as a nuanced decision. Neither Miles nor Miguel are bad per se with the information they are working with, but rather they are seeing things from different perspectives. They drew different, reasonable conclusions from the foggy information they had. I don't think the movie is trying to tell you Miguel is 100% bad, more that since its shot from Miles' perspective we don't get to sympathize/empathize with his position as much. Had we had as long with Miguel's family that got dusted as we had with Miles, then the emotional weights would be clearer for the viewer.

I mean, if canon events can be broken safely such as how Gwens cop father isn't going to die anymore then I don't see why an anomaly can't engrain itself so much into a reality that it is no longer a threat to universal stability

      >I mean, if canon events can be broken safely such as how Gwens cop father isn't going to die anymore
I think this might be jumping to conclusions. Gwen might THINK this saves her father, but until we get confirmation by him showing up alive at the end of the 3rd movie, we can't be certain that he won't get final destination'd anyway.

Nobody considers Miguel a bad guy. Just misguided and unable to look past his own trauma. The dude spent months living the life of his dead counterpart and is just assuming “canon” is the reason why that reality went to shit.

Also he’s treating Miles as the biggest threat when IMO Spot should be priority number 1.

Do you guys think Miguel played with Gwen's future wiener? Like he could gently flick it and massage Gwen's trans balls. I'm sure 2099 has had his way with Gwen's boissy once or twice.
