I think it's just... why? I could definitelt see how that could be a massive betrayal of trust which would lead to a breakup yet I think the issue really lies in "abuse" being a very vague term. It's an abuse of trust and boundaries that leads to a justifiable breakup but we often hear the word abuse and jump to this idea of either physical violence or a long drawn out continuous psychological dominance built around the emotional destruction of a person.

Sorta? He's faced allegations for years in relation to this. His Wacked character is very similar to Earthworm Jim and he did a webcomic called One Knight's Tail (which is currently lost media atm) which apparently people claimed was a ripoff of Rocket Knight Adventures/Sparkster. It's definitely been a thing for a while now, but I can't really say for sure how often he did it since - showing my age here - I wasn't there at the time.

I think it's important to recognize that there's literally nothing wrong with this sort of thing. I guess, provided you did it as a teenager/young artist and it's not any of your actual paid work. People are all hypersensitive to right now it because of AI, and even before then how much people were up in arms recently about the wider art industry crunch. But for ages, the way to start out as an artist was to draw shit deeply inspired by what you've seen. Just flat out copy, even trace!, other art. Not to cut corners or pass it off as your own, but just because you have fun doing it and it's all practice.
The problem is, ideally, you'd move on from this and grow into your own style and be moved to develop your own "original" ideas, even if they've more heavily inspired than not. You synthesize, self edit, learn what to drop and what to keep.
Ironically when Dobson tried to do exactly that and break off his Ranma 1/2 influence (especially when anime became enemy number 1 for "objectifiying women" and all that) his art took a harsh nose dive. He really had no idea how to art without the Rumiko Takahashi inspiration.
Yeah that is the thing about AWD. I do enjoy his work but there is a very stark stylistic difference in his work depending on what he's drawing. It's not bad, but his TenNapel influenced stuff is very obvious, his Megaman influenced stuff is very obvious - weirdly, I always felt his anthro stuff was the most "inspired" (and even then I think it's influenced by a lot of guys like Fred Perry and Chalodillo). His synthesis as you put it isn't quite all there.
Probably one of the most influential artists to me back when I was younger. Always thought his art was pretty cool and, unlike the artists behind cartoons and video games I liked back then, he seemed like someone relatively tangible. I probably wouldn't sign my artwork the way I do if it wasn't for him.
I stopped paying attention to him when he had his scandal with his ex, not because of the situation in question but, because his art seemed to drift to being entirely furry after that. He would do it on and off but it became the dominant work for him and that's just not my thing.
I bought one of his old books from back in the day and it's kind of surreal looking through it now. Andrew's never been one who was good at hiding his inspirations as pretty much everything he does just oozes Mega Man or Earthworm Jim in some way or another (probably less of the ladder nowadays because you're not allowed to publicly like Doug TenNapel anymore in the circles he's in).
Definitely miss the old stuff. It was what I can only describe as "Americanime", which I mentally can only put to OG Teen Titans and another artist like Alex Ahad.

I did an interview with Dickman for my college art final back in the early 2000's. He was working on his Ivan the Terrible pitch at the time. From my experience he just acts autistic. The whole issue with his ex was a he-said she-said scenario.
In her story he was verbally abusive, neglectful and couldn't understand why she was crying and said something like 'you're beautiful' after an argument. The SA stuff was something along the lines of a blowjob that she decided she didn't like doing or I dunno. It was very vague. No concrete proof.
On his end, he says she'd been talking to friends for months and one male friend kept begging her to get out of the relationship. She left him and immediately moves out to hook up with another guy.
The OC stuff is kind of true, but he makes so many characters its hard to keep track. He's been a mostly friendly guy from what I've seen but looses his shit to trolls.At least in the past.

Dickman's an anomaly in the sense that, despite all his followers, the guy is a fricking nobody with zero relevancy. Nobody talks about him or does he have anything relevant under his portfolio for the sake of Internet fame. Probably most of his followers are Vinesauce orbiters who liked his fanart and a few who saw his YouTube review stuff that hasn't updated since, what, 2013?
Assuming the accusations are all real, the simple reason he won't face repercussions is, in the end of the day, because nobody fricking cares, no one knows him, Dobson was way more famous, mainlyfor all the wrong reasons, but even without his lolcowery Dob at least had SYAC and his collab with Brental Floss. Something that actually made him relevant to a degree or other. Dickman does not, and nobody but the oldest of oldgays remembers the Wily fricking Show.

I would argue Dobson is worse. Dickman is weird and I don't like his new style, especially compared to his old one, but the worst thing about him was the accusations. They dropped when he and his ex broke up and that caused him to end his webcomic at the time but it didnt go any further beyond those accusations so nobody really knew if they were true or not since she dropped the whole subject.

Sorta? He's faced allegations for years in relation to this. His Wacked character is very similar to Earthworm Jim and he did a webcomic called One Knight's Tail (which is currently lost media atm) which apparently people claimed was a ripoff of Rocket Knight Adventures/Sparkster. It's definitely been a thing for a while now, but I can't really say for sure how often he did it since - showing my age here - I wasn't there at the time.
His current work is too generic furry. The thing that made his old work interesting is that it was more batshit insane cartoon/anime influenced but it's too soft now.

To be fair, I would rather have Dickman over Dobson any day. The interesting thing about him is that he's a great draftsman but is very derivative in his original work sometimes. Dobson isn't really that good a draftsman in comparison.

That said, I feel you're over-estimating the guy by calling him "great draftsman". May of his gestures are also derived from late 80s to mid 90s artwork drawn by Keiji Inafune, Hayato Kaji and Hideki Ishikawa down to the gesture. Sure it's pleasant but holy shit nothing about him is original.
As for this artwork, I do see a lil bit of Leifeld in his very early artwork huge muscular fellas like Blanka, and he probably is neck deep into the psyop.

This picture is the perfect example of what I mean, that even his gestures are derivative from other, mainly this one drawn by Hayato Kaji for Mega Man 7.
I think it's important to recognize that there's literally nothing wrong with this sort of thing. I guess, provided you did it as a teenager/young artist and it's not any of your actual paid work. People are all hypersensitive to right now it because of AI, and even before then how much people were up in arms recently about the wider art industry crunch. But for ages, the way to start out as an artist was to draw shit deeply inspired by what you've seen. Just flat out copy, even trace!, other art. Not to cut corners or pass it off as your own, but just because you have fun doing it and it's all practice.
The problem is, ideally, you'd move on from this and grow into your own style and be moved to develop your own "original" ideas, even if they've more heavily inspired than not. You synthesize, self edit, learn what to drop and what to keep.
Ironically when Dobson tried to do exactly that and break off his Ranma 1/2 influence (especially when anime became enemy number 1 for "objectifiying women" and all that) his art took a harsh nose dive. He really had no idea how to art without the Rumiko Takahashi inspiration.
Yeah that is the thing about AWD. I do enjoy his work but there is a very stark stylistic difference in his work depending on what he's drawing. It's not bad, but his TenNapel influenced stuff is very obvious, his Megaman influenced stuff is very obvious - weirdly, I always felt his anthro stuff was the most "inspired" (and even then I think it's influenced by a lot of guys like Fred Perry and Chalodillo). His synthesis as you put it isn't quite all there.

Probably one of the most influential artists to me back when I was younger. Always thought his art was pretty cool and, unlike the artists behind cartoons and video games I liked back then, he seemed like someone relatively tangible. I probably wouldn't sign my artwork the way I do if it wasn't for him.
I stopped paying attention to him when he had his scandal with his ex, not because of the situation in question but, because his art seemed to drift to being entirely furry after that. He would do it on and off but it became the dominant work for him and that's just not my thing.
I bought one of his old books from back in the day and it's kind of surreal looking through it now. Andrew's never been one who was good at hiding his inspirations as pretty much everything he does just oozes Mega Man or Earthworm Jim in some way or another (probably less of the ladder nowadays because you're not allowed to publicly like Doug TenNapel anymore in the circles he's in).
Definitely miss the old stuff. It was what I can only describe as "Americanime", which I mentally can only put to OG Teen Titans and another artist like Alex Ahad.

I did an interview with Dickman for my college art final back in the early 2000's. He was working on his Ivan the Terrible pitch at the time. I remember the advice he gave me about the animation industry: "It sucks. It's where creativity goes to die. I dream of making my own show but everyone just ends up being a storyboard artist."
