The warlords (save Kuma) are supposed to be unreliable allies who aren't even expected to show up to a meeting when called on by the head of the marines himself, not lapdogs at the beck and call of a vice admiral. Just finished the first episode and I was pleasantly surprised. Been a fan of the original series and have followed it since the early 2000's and of course there were some weird changes I disliked, but Oda did approve of them and I have faith that the changes were due to only being allowed eight episodes and that it's better for the overall narrative. Some of the dialogue and CGI is cringey as frick (Nami map room/Morgan's office scene) but I think the cast overall is doing a good job of embodying the characters and it shines through even in bad moments. And they did really well with the emotional scenes like Luffy and Koby on the dinghy and Zoro eating the rice cake, and those scenes are really the core of One Piece. As long as they do those justice, I'm sure audiences will love it. The crew being formed by the end of the episode felt rushed, and Orange Town is supposed to be the arc that endears Nami to Luffy so I'm interested to see how they handle that now. Also felt like Zoro had no real motivation to help Luffy and Nami at the end, he just did it due to plot, but now I'm being nitpicky.
Also, the fight scenes are better than they have any right to be. The Zoro bar fight was legitimately well choreographed.
The show has an almost Pirates of the Caribbean vibe to it, just with more camp and goofiness which I think is a pretty smart way to go about it. Borrow from another pirate franchise that's proven to be insanely popular and mold it to your own ends. Many fans of the OG are going to be upset no matter what they do so better appeal to the widest set of normies possible. Even then it's not awful, which is probably the most shocking thing to me.
One Piece is pretty much what I was expecting Naruto to be from all the criticism, slow and aimless.

It's slow because manga/anime is not meant to translate well into live action, superhuman speed is a basic concept in all action anime that cannot be replicated irl, even the japs fail at it, just look at what they did to Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach or Gantz.

Just finished the first episode and I was pleasantly surprised. Been a fan of the original series and have followed it since the early 2000's and of course there were some weird changes I disliked, but Oda did approve of them and I have faith that the changes were due to only being allowed eight episodes and that it's better for the overall narrative. Some of the dialogue and CGI is cringey as frick (Nami map room/Morgan's office scene) but I think the cast overall is doing a good job of embodying the characters and it shines through even in bad moments. And they did really well with the emotional scenes like Luffy and Koby on the dinghy and Zoro eating the rice cake, and those scenes are really the core of One Piece. As long as they do those justice, I'm sure audiences will love it. The crew being formed by the end of the episode felt rushed, and Orange Town is supposed to be the arc that endears Nami to Luffy so I'm interested to see how they handle that now. Also felt like Zoro had no real motivation to help Luffy and Nami at the end, he just did it due to plot, but now I'm being nitpicky.
Also, the fight scenes are better than they have any right to be. The Zoro bar fight was legitimately well choreographed.
The show has an almost Pirates of the Caribbean vibe to it, just with more camp and goofiness which I think is a pretty smart way to go about it. Borrow from another pirate franchise that's proven to be insanely popular and mold it to your own ends. Many fans of the OG are going to be upset no matter what they do so better appeal to the widest set of normies possible. Even then it's not awful, which is probably the most shocking thing to me.

One Piece is pretty much what I was expecting Naruto to be from all the criticism, slow and aimless.
Naruto's first half is actually extremely kino and while Shippudden can get annoying at times everythin before the final boss is perfectly watcheble.
One Piece legit has five times as many episodes and they're no closer to finding the fricking treasure as they were on episode 1.

That's never happening as Luffy believes in freedom. Only way he encounters Akainu for a fight is if he gets in the way of his dream to being king of the pirates. Only the people of Zo are silly enough to fight for revenge for a crime that wasn't commited by Perospero (Pedro blew himself up).

Naruto is pretty boring post-timeskip, the only reason to read it is to see whatever the next Akatsuki members' abilities are, but this gets bogged down by Sasuke being a Gary Stu and Naruto and Sakura crying about how much they want to suck his dick. Then the war starts and the series is just over. By the end of the series, Kishimoto has completely thrown everything it was originally about out the window. Naruto and Sasuke get demigod powers out of nowhere, as if they needed more, and are revealed to be the literal spiritual reincarnations of the original ninja so they can do battle with the Big Bad Obi- I mean, Mada- I mean, their mom? Or a rabbit moon goddess or something? But even she's being controlled by "Literal Nobody" Black Zetsu. And suddenly you remember one of the themes of Naruto was the younger generations surpassing the old, but the war is literally about old ninja being resurrected and wrecking everyone's absolute shit, they can only win thanks to their numbers.
