Interesting fact: the current version was designed by an artist named Haddon Sundblom back in the 1940s with the model being a guy named Harold W. McCauley who was a pulp magazine and advertising illustrator. Pic related is some of his art.
Anyway, I know this because at a job I worked at about 6 or 7 years ago, one of my coworkers was McCauley's daughter. He'd moved to Melbourne, FL back in the 1960s to become an in-house illustrator for a local defense contractor (the whole area is big for aerospace stuff since it's in the same county as Cape Canaveral) and lived out the rest of his life here.
