I assume his career with Disney is over considering how hard he failed with this. He's trying to salvage whatever he can by defending against any bad opinions. Call me a "Chud", but...I think it serves him right. It wasn't the black lesbian which ruined the film. It's the fact that the director wasn't creative enough to make a goddamn space adventure with aliens. The fact that he choose "time travel" for the plot element just proved that his film was fricked from the start. It ought to be a golden rule at this point but any story with time travel is doomed to suck once you think critically about it.

What about Back to the Future? It was a huge hit.
I think it's more than time travel has become a cliche of late.
The lesbian shit was just a lightning rod. The movie wouldn't have suddenly been good if the couple was a pair of white blonde blue-eyed ubermensches. It wouldn't have been any more believable that this was a movie a kid saw in the 90's and loved it enough to beg for a Buzz Lightyear toy
It should have been a 90's throwback fun space adventure movie for kids, but it wasn't. It was Interstellar for mentally underdeveloped young adults.
His career is fine. You can only fail upwards in Disney as long as you're the right minority. As long as he blames the "chuds" and "alt-right" trolls for his movie bombing, Disney would not dare fire him unless they want to risk massive PR backlash.
What a garbage fricking thread from top to bottom. The dashed off, uncropped mobile screenshot. The political bait. The lack of any commentary but "why?" Please, frick off.
He should be getting mad at Disney. They're the ones who set it up to go against Minions and market the black lesbian. Pretty damn sure the mouse is trying to kill pixar at this point.
You know, you may have a point because this isn't the first time Disney has sent a movie out to die on purpose. Winnie the Pooh flopped so badly that most people don't even realize it was the last 2D animated movie they made. They think it was Princess and the Frog.
There was a 2d animated Winnie the Pooh movie that came out in 2011. The reason you may have never heard about this is because Disney put it out on the same weekend as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, the last movie in that franchise. Many theaters didn't even bother airing any other movie that weekend.
Also, "we didn't cut out the lesbian kiss for foreign markets," basically told everyone that all it would amount to is something that could easily be removed for foreign markets without anyone noticing. They basically admitted that it was nothing more than minimal effort pandering.
This means very little. You'll see shittons of trailers attached to big films. I see a24 flicks put in front of Marvel movies. Marketing is a lot more than that.

That makes me think? If that was their “last” 2D film, going by the logic they set up movies against more popular ones and that Pixar hasn’t been all that hot lately, what are the chances Disney will get the opportunity to completely absorb Pixar’s asset’s entirely to recoup their losses like they did with blue sky? I mean after all there’s barely any difference between the main animation studio and Pixar these days anyway
Worked for Disney previously with Soul
Worked for Sony & Marvel previously with Spiderverse
Worked for Disney & Marvel again previously with Black Panther
It's not even about catering to blacks, this movie is just unappealing as a summer family sci-fi adventure film. The color scheme is washed out, the heroine is hideous, the sidekicks are two ugly old men, and the plot isn't something that a kid would latch on to or want to revisit. Everything in the movie is either just ugly or looks like it had the shit beaten out of it.

Back to the Future still has the issue with causality, but because it doesn't take itself too seriously it's not a big deal.
This

They could just not give him anything until they can get a diversity replacement.

Wait, seriously?
I thought Christopher Robin was the last pooh movie
Can you read?

Man this reminds me on how they also stealth released the last ice age movie
i had not seen any marketing at all.
Getting "news" sites to comment on it is marketing.
Disney leaned heavily into "we restored the lesbian kiss!" as a marketing tactic.
But that is because they essentially made this scifi adventure movie as bland as possible so what else did they have to sell?
Also, "we didn't cut out the lesbian kiss for foreign markets," basically told everyone that all it would amount to is something that could easily be removed for foreign markets without anyone noticing. They basically admitted that it was nothing more than minimal effort pandering.
The trailer was played before several tentpole movies in theatres

Never take responsibility for your own failures.
Cater to blacks, you can't go back.
Worked for Marvel. Before the lead fricking died
I heard rumblings they wanted to replace him with his sister even before the actor died
His sister being a vaccine-skeptic foreigner really fricked up production, though
