>downloading kinos in 720p
>2024
This is not a real resolution standard like 480p was. It was just an inbetween for when the technology was new, hardware wasn't powerful or cheap and companies had to make HD more affordable to consumers, so they pushed 720p for people who couldn't afford to go full 1080p.
This is why there's no 1440p files or TVs but only 4K files and TVs. We have the technology to not need an inbetween resolution. Everybody can play 4K now, even with a $20 box the size of a deck of playing cards. 720p is always bit-starved crap, even when it comes from streaming companies.
Death to 720p!
If you're that desperate to save space, just download 1080p x265 files.
get a life or have sex or something
you first
I watch everything on a 27" computer monitor. 720p is perfectly adequate for me.
youre allowed to do whatever you want but just know that when you view a movie on that monitor, you didnt watch the movie
Sad
Back in the day we watched homemade videos at 240p and we're grateful we had ANYTHING to watch at all
>This is not a real resolution standard like 480p was.
I dont think that's quite true. IIRC under the ATSC 1.0 standard which was used by cable and broadcast TV 1280x720p / 60hz (59.94hz) was one of the supported resolutions. ABC and ESPN still use it I think. The rush to useless 4k is mostly a waste of bandwidth since you probably cant tell the difference between 720p and 2160p on most TV screens at normal viewing distance.
FUN FACT: the vast majority of cable / internet TV “HD channels” are 720p signals, very few are 1080i (none are 1080p because that requires significantly more bandwidth). Your TV may upconvert to 1080 (or 4K if you have a 4K tv).
Ironically, OTA (over the air) digital signals are 1080 .. so a good antenna may get you a better free signal than your paid cable tv.
Streaming services are a bit different. As and
mentions. Bluray and 4K discs are absolutely superior to streaming or broadcast.
Yeah but OTA channels have almost zero content. Even free ad supported apps like Tubi offer more content than what an antenna will get you.
6GB 720p > 2GB 1080p
very nice
What is that
Nice get and based post. I’d rather watch a clean high bit rate lower res file than a high res one that’s riddled with banding and macro blocking. I’ll never understand the people who make 4K HDR encodes of a movie and the file size is 3-4 GB. If I wanted to look at a watercolor painting I’d go to an art museum.
>6GB 720p > 2GB 1080p
Strawman argument
not really those are usually your choices on public trackers
10GB is the bare minimum I'll download for something 1080p
>not really those are usually your choices on public trackers
yeah because idiots download 720p
what is it about bit rate that you're not understanding?
>what is it about bit rate that you're not understanding?
everybody understands it, dumbass. the issue is that people don't care about bitrate and only download 720p YIFY because its the smallest and that's part of why public torrents are shit
you really need a life if this is your actual complaint right now.
>still not understanding bit rate
>still not understanding bit rate
everybody understands it, anon.
Correct. Bitrate is important.
It's why """4K""" on streaming services looks worse than a standard 1080p Bluray.
>It's why """4K""" on streaming services looks worse than a standard 1080p Bluray.
that's why you shouldn't pay for anything
>6GB 720p > 2GB 1080p
Low IQ argument
Nobody prefers 2GB 1080p over 6GB 720p
I know whenever I find an old movie uploaded in 576p I'm about to see some serious kino
Some movies are ruined by better quality. I prefer watching a lot of movies on vhs.
Example. Northern Exposure.
Great tv show but it looks worse in HD. I watch my old vhs tapes I recorded from the tv.
ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM
nope
Exactly. Anon recommendeds those x265s but they're so often just awful
>Anon recommendeds those x265s but they're so often just awful
The QxR ones are great. You're thinking about the YIFY'd x265 crap from RARBG.
I use 720p 'cuz i'm on a shitty laptop
speaking of, i've got it connected via hdmi to an older, actually heavy, flatscreen TV, and i have to keep windows out of fullscreen because it overscans and i have no idea if that's just an inherent flaw or i'm moronic
out of maximized*
most tvs had a setting to turn off over scan so you could hook them to a computer.
>I use 720p 'cuz i'm on a shitty laptop
get a job?
my job money goes to booze, rent, power bill, in that order.
It's fine honestly. I have to watch dvd rips sometimes because many good movies aren't available in HD and it's not the end of the world
that's ok
