It makes sense given the female creator. My own wire loves the series, and loves the way the female characters are portrayed. Although, personally they don't seem that drastically different to me.
Demon Slayer has exceptional animation and music, too, which makes it easy to chew threw even when it has pacing issues. The manga was rather dry, with a few really good moments. The story doesn't hold as strong without the music and animation.

I think a lot of young people were so used to watching run of the mill anime that those series blew their minds with how competent the production values were. There's definitely huge generational divides in anime fandoms but I think all 3 of those series are ones that are pretty family friendly and watchable by various age groups

I'd probably watch SnK if I was 9 years old and it was readily available on some streaming service, even if it might be a little more gruesome it's still right out the open and popular with kids having access to it. I've started reading the chainsaw man manga and it's actually pretty good, it feels like a strange combination of Gantz, Berserk and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and I personally noticed many of its psychological themes rival Neon Genesis Evangelion (only talking about main characters), I will explain more in the Youtube analysis video I'm working on, since I don't want my ideas stolen.

Read the manga and say that again. I was excited for the anime, because I typically feel like anime improves upon the manga, but Hell's Paradise is absolutely butchered with terrible pacing, and some minor characters' actions not even being explained, making some come off as psychopaths that try to kill their allies.

Sound guy had his wives and being showy while the fire guy had a complicated relationship with his father and brother as well as being bizarrely honest and open. I'm not surprised the latter was more popular, people in general don't like showy people but do like honest ones.
Honesty and simple-mindedness is woefully overplayed in anime. Focusing on an arrogant and prideful prick is far more interesting than a massively copy-pasted character like Rengoku. Him having a "complicated" relationship with his super brainlet of a dad does not make him compelling at all.

Honesty and simple-mindedness is woefully overplayed in anime. Focusing on an arrogant and prideful prick is far more interesting than a massively copy-pasted character like Rengoku. Him having a "complicated" relationship with his super brainlet of a dad does not make him compelling at all.

I mostly gave up on anime in my late teens but decided to watch HxH in my mid 20s and I enjoyed it (probably enjoyed it more because the authors other series was 1 of my favorites when I was young)
Not to say the series is perfect or anything, but there was that period of 5 or so years where I never thought I'd enjoy an anime again, but I ended up getting pretty into it at times, but also because I watched a lot of shonen when I was a kid and the series plays with shonen themes in a way that felt fresh and new to me
