Historically, our most distant enemies whose cultures were the most different from ours always came from the desert. It’s an exotic place that represents a sort of antithesis to the rolling hills and shrouded forests of the anglo soul

Yep, the desert is about as far from the anglo ideal as its possible to get. An alien, exotic and hostile land filled with alien, exotic and hostile people.

it's basically a blank canvas. Stimulates the imagination and the openness is comforting. Too bad the middle east is infested with inbred sand monkeys who want to kill you so they can go to heaven because Dr Faucihammed said so a thousand and a half years ago. At least now that they're cucked by technology they're stuck to mostly just killing each other. Luckily in the US we got it all except jungles and a few other biomes

    DESERT POWER

You ever been in a desert? I had never seen one in person until I was 16. My dad was a trucker and took me with him to see some of the country. I saw the Sonoran, Mojave, and Great Basin deserts on those trips and was amazed. I was raised in the Appalachians and had never seen anything like it.
They're captivating and paradoxical. A mountain tells you to go away, but is pretty nice once you get close to it. Deserts aren't. They goad you into entering and then laugh as you struggle. They want to test you. They turn you around and mess with your perception when they can too. Some mountains do this too, but not many of them and not to the extent that deserts do because those types of mountains just want you to leave.
