I’m a 40 year old boomer and “woke” was literally what people would call hoteps and the guys in black power daishikis and those Jim Brown hats. It wasn’t as ubiquitous of a term as it is today, but the meaning is/was essentially the same.

Nah, they just pretend that it doesn't exist now. Then you have people like this

      >it turned out good
With no one talking about it. We all know Arcane has a non-stop blitz of shills congesting at least 3 boards constantly. The fact fricking no one has dick to say about X-Men '97 tells me all I need to know. Aside from Morph being a wienersucking homosexual troony homosexual.

saying it must be bad since the youtubers aren't giving it any attention.

Only YouTuber I know up in the "sphere" that's sucking this shit off is JustSomeGuy and he's an admitted homosexual so this is right up his alley. His unabashed bias is both unsurprising as well as uninteresting to witness. He gets to see "representation" of his sin associated positively with an IP he holds close to his heart. Meanwhile Cinemaphile and in general most straight men who aren't signaling have dick all to say about this show. You can find your slow threads on Cinemaphileumblr about this but this show failed to reach mainstream appeal: guys. People were posting here about Rogue's awful ass and the terrible designs and then that was it. Universal agreement that this is a piece of shit show with nothing going on for it and nothing to say.

Oh wait I remember a thread or two about Gambit blowing up maybe or some shit?

X-Men is probably one of the only shows you can legitimately say was always “woke”. The entire fricking concept is mutants trying to be accepted and tolerated by normies. The subtext isn’t exactly subtle.

Anyone who was a fan of X-Men would never, ever say that. Which is what reiterates my feeling: no straight man likes this this, so no straight men who aren't virtue signaling or have incredibly shit taste are speaking positively about it. gays on Cinemaphileumblr can talk about it all day. Frankly I don't give a fricking SHIT about Morph and making him some stupid fricking troony self insert from the writer on top of Rouge's nerfed ass is enough for me to peace out on the entire production. Sure, in isolation, some aspects of the show might be cool. But I sincerely doubt its enough to actually appeal to the audience this is intended for.

It has been for a long time but it was retconned to be that way. The mutants weren't conceived of as a civil rights thing. It was just an easy way to give people super powers without having to come up with a back story every time.

I actually don't like it but not because of the reasons everyone else is saying. I don't like that it feels like the typical Disney slop where they are trying to create as many "moments" as possible. They rush through storylines and try to slap in as many cameos as they can in a short matter of time so that people can gush about it and create hype. The show isn't actually that good, the plot is extremely confusing and the characterizations are a little off. I also don't like that the animation is trying really hard to SAY it looks like the '90s show but it really isn't trying. I've noticed a lot of anime type bullshit and modern tropes with the animation, which I guess you can't get away with. But I'm really over the show and only watching it to see the conclusion. I'm tired of everything superhero related trying to be a spectacle in Disney / Warner shitting all over their properties trying so hard to create the next memeable moment that goes viral. I think the last episode literally has Cyclops, Jean, and Cable drive a Porsche off of a plane while they are shooting robots and Cyclops shouts "let's show them not to mess with the Summers!" Who the frick would even write that other than a cynical piece of shit just trying to generate inauthentic hype for a brand? Disgusting.

I tried rewatching the original '90s cartoon recently and tbh it's not as good as you remember, if you saw it as a kid. All the storylines feel like rushed, shittier versions of original comics. It's as if they had a goal of retelling 30 years of comics as quickly as possible to act as a commercial for the comics or something.

It actually made me go read the comics instead of continuing the show, and 'cuz I never finished my rewatch I still haven't started the new show.

Rewatching the original cartoon I was surprised how little episodic it felt in a time where everything was a problem of the week show.

that's also true for the original one but the modern cheapness makes it look more like Archer

It is stiff at times but not even close in the way Archer is. Maybe it will be an issue they fix in season 2 but who knows.

Honestly it´s ok(ish). True enough Rogue´s been desexualized to an outrageous extreme, Magneto´s face looks weird as frick and some powers have been changed but having the classic team and actually adapting stories for the comics makes up for it. You may not like it, but this one is a win for DIsney/ Marvel.

I really want to like it. I waited all Saturday morning just to watch X-men (anyone remember that gay live action ninja arena show?). I just can’t get into the reboot and I can’t put my finger on why. I like the nostalgia, the characters, I don’t give a shit if morph is bi or whatever. I just don’t find the new episodes particularly engaging. Perhaps they’re trying to do too much at once being episodic and serialized simultaneously
