It was before origin stories became passe and now that I think about it it's the only superhero series besides the Iron Man solo movies which follows the development of a single character and his supporting cast.

soillenials and gen failure (x) watched them when they were kids. If they looked at the movies from an objective lens, they would realize it's just capeshit. Everything else is cope

Genuine and earnest. No self-aware bullshit where it's constant winks at the camera like "WOW, this is so DUMB amirite?" Good cast, the movies were self-contained and not just a constant advertisement for what came next. An actually good director who got to use his personal style instead of being cramped by house rules.
Even the worst film has 10x more soul than the average MCUslop.

Completely agree, and add to this that it was in an era before complete saturation of superhero movies. Considering Spiderman was always one of the 'big' stars the hype for seeing him on film was huge, it all came together great.

Great casting with Maguire, Dafoe and Dunst.
    Great script from David Koepp.
Competent director who loves the source material in Raimi.
    No forced diversity horse shit.

Since superhero movies were not guaranteed money at this point they also had to just be good movies.
If Spider-man 3 came out in 2015 it probably would have been better received.

It would still receive criticism for:

      A) no slimy venom
      B) Butler tells Harry
      C) Sandman killing Uncle Ben

I think 2 of those code be avoided easily

    1. The setting and tone is appropriate and unique to the character. Spider-Man is the hero and the one character the audience is invited to step into the shoes of. No crossover or ensemble cast shit.
    2. Setting is semi-believable. No alien cityscape battles or magic macguffins.
    3. The story isn't afraid of dramatic sincerity. Emotions aren't something to be embarrassed by or casually thrown in for a moment of cheap sentimentality.
    4. No mandatory kung-fu fights every ten minutes.
    5. There's no getting around this, soul.

definitely millennial nostalgia because back then I even though the movies were big a lot of people complained about them and I always thought they weren't viewed that favorably

For those who want to be part of this epic Cinemaphile forced meme there are three easy steps.

Step 1: This is considered the most important step. See what movie this epic Cinemaphile meme is being applied to today. Most of the time it's the older Sam Raimi Spiderman movies but since these threads die very fast the guys that force this apply it to other movies now. This thread however uses the Raimi Spiderman meme. Please pay attention.

Step 2: Take an iconic scene in the movie, any will do as long as people remember the scene. Greentext a quote from the scene and twist the words to use anti semitisim, racism, homophobia or any other edgy as frick topic. Go nuts, the sky is the limit! The more vulgar it is the more epic the meme is. This takes us to the final step.....

Step 3: Make a regular post, taking the position of a normal person and pretend to be disgusted by that scene. I know, I know, this is Cinemaphile, a site where gore flows like fine wine but that's what makes this meme edgy, wacky and zany. We pretend to be offended by that fake scene. Funny huh?

Now that you understand how to do this, have fun kids. Happy memeing!

They were made to sell toys and happy meals to children, and thus had to be fun and interesting
Modern capeshit is made to sell itself to 18-30 year olds, and is thus marketed to no life losers who still go to theaters instead of parties

    >Spider-man
Actual plot and character development, usual Sam Raimi humor, action scenes weren't inserted for the sake it.
    >Everything else
capeshit movies are made to appeal to viewers with a 20 second max attention span. Each shot only lasts only 5-10 seconds. Dialogue is simplistic. Humor is one-liner quips with the primary intention to be meme'd on reddit.

Same reason the Nolan batman movies are remembered fondly. They had a grittier more mature atmosphere with a sense of realism. They fit into the zeitgeist of post 9-11 America perfectly.

theyre genuine and full of heart
great characters that have actual drama and arcs
good meaningful dialogue and themes throughout each film
great action scenes with cgi that isnt ugly or overly cartoonish
beautiful colors and the cinematography in general has style, its not shot like some tv show as so much of the mcu seems like
casting is pretty much spot on for every character
and who can forget the music?
    whats not to like?

What the frick else do you want from a capeshit movie? Not enough CGI and serious moments ruined with jokes for you?

I only like the first movie. Peter Parker was acting too much like a b***h for me to handle in the 2nd.
