Same here, probably 90% or more of the American TV shows I watch are from before 2000 with a very small amount from after that. For example It's Always Sunny. Now that I think of it, that's probably the newest show I have saved.
But I'm fine watching Japanese or Korean shows, like you said, it just feels like people and it's more natural. If I watch an east Asian show from 2020 it won't make me want to gouge my eyes out of my own sockets.
Still, I prefer older shows even if they're foreign. more sovl

yeah, they always have a good atmosphere. My favourites are xfiles and frasier, you just feel comfy watching them and enjoyable with the characters
Frasier is a great show as well. I recently saw The Fugitive (the movie), have you seen it? Something about the film they used in the early 90s is just really nice, the way it renders greys is great. I just love having my comfy 90s TV movies playing on my TV, at least within my room I can pretend it's not the 21st century outside

Japan has some diversity. I watch all of Matsumoto Hitoshi's shows and he has some black comedians taking part, and quite a few trannies too. I also see his shows with white people playing the "foreigner" role. There is one episode of Gaki where they have this Italian guy on teaching them to be ninjas, usually the show has this old japanese guy teaching them to be random crap like ninjas, pirates, pilots, fuedal lords, etc. But this one they have the Italian presenting, then as part of the show they interview random Japanese people asking about their impressions of the Italian guy and the Old Japanese guy, every single one says "handsome" "nice to women" "role model" etc for the Italian, everything they say about the Japanese guy is negative. I found that episode funny.
