Most characters can't find happiness and Hank is one of the worst for it. His character has been defined by being a lonely unstable frick up. Even at his most stable in the beginning his character was still defined by his inability to be present with his current girlfriend because he was a widower and insecurity that he could provide any real help to the Avengers because his powers were being the little guy.
The context seems to be more that Hank and her had something else before she got her wits about her. So basically the woman he was into went from seeing him a lover to a nice guy. Even the consolation of "hey it's not like I don't like you, it's just this isn't what I want right now"
More they kept trying to defect. Hank’s innate goodness made it so that the mask they wore bled inward. The last Fake! Pym was literally a moronic clone because both the OG Pym Skrull and that clone kept trying to warn people.

It's really fricked up that they did that.
Before he was a Skrull, Pym really was getting his act together and had a full redemption.
