Benson is addicted to his rage. He likes having someone/something to always be angry at.

    1. Lack of options. The Park isn't an attractive place to work so it's forced to take what it can get.
    2. Benson's leanacy. It's implied that Benson seems himself in Mordecai and Rigby and sees his own regrets in them, hence why he gives them so many second-chances.
    3. It may reflect badly on him as a boss to his boss, Mr. Maellard. Maellard apparently doesn't know all the trouble his park goes under, especially since most of them take the span of like, a day, but he would probably notice Mordecai and Rigby missing and may ask why they're no around.

Mordecai and Rigby fix most of their problems at the end of the day like Phineas and Ferb. They also casually stop world ending threats. And in their spare time they keep the park mostly clean. Losing them would be a negative

That's true. Sometimes, the insane situation isn't even their fault and they do help Benson on occasion.

        >i doubt Benson has many friends
He doesn't, the show has shown many times that Benson outside of the park is a mere loser.

That game show incident probably took out any chance for him to join any other band that needed a drummer.

He's just like Squidward and Candace, the moment they are about to get rid of the protagonists they feel bad and change their minds

I don't see people comparing him to Squid or Candace. Benson doesn't hate Mordecai and Rigby, but his annoyance at them is entirely justified because they refuse to do the simplest work in favor of playing video games, in a house that they get to live in rent free.

Squidward often dislikes Spongebob for dumb reasons or is just a plain butthole, and Candace genuinely has no reason to be a b***h towards her brothers.

Not only would Benson get along great with Spongebob, he'd also get along with Phineas and Ferb.

Benson also eventually just becomes straight up friends with both of them later on in the show, and is only ever hard on them because for most of their time there they're genuine frick ups. Like he's not this way with Muscle Man or Skips because they're both good employees and will just tell him they've fricked off for a couple hours to do some shit and he'll be fine with it.

I was already old by the time I saw Regular Show, so I always saw Benson's point in being mad but a bunch of kids watching the show didn't seem to get Benson until they grew up themselves and just slotted him into the typical killjoy position.
