People read tea-leaves into this episode. It's just what would happen if a normal hard-working man went to Springfield. It's not some hyper-intellectual critic of cotemporary america, there are no subtleties, it's just a slightly mean-spirited episode of a normal man interacting with Homer.
No, even the based boomer writer thinks he's a homosexual. >You mentioned “Homer’s Enemy,” which has to be one of the darkest half hours ever on television. It’s about an upstanding, decent, and hardworking character named Frank Grimes, who’s driven mad by Homer. At the end, Grimes accidentally electrocutes himself, and then Homer snores and talks in his sleep at Grimes’s funeral, to the amusement of the attendees. Not what James Brooks might refer to as a “lot of heart.”
Swartzwelder responded: >Grimey was asking for it the whole episode. He didn’t approve of our Homer. He was asking for it, and he got it. Now what was this you were saying about heart?
No it isn't. Frank is just a stupid Chud who is entitled and resentful. He's not the average person in simpsons world. That's just a stupid theory made up by midwit youtubers
Grimey was a bit of a dick but his resentment is understandable after 40 years of being fricked over by fate and circumstance. Marge even explains this shit in the episode.
Rightoids who don't actually own the means of production need to find scapegoats when their hard work doesn't pay off, or else their worldview collapses. They blame welfare queens, blacks, liberals, or lazy ppl like Homer people as not being deserving of happiness because they don't share their work ethic
They will blame EVERYONE but their boss and the capitalist economic system that is actually making them miserable.
watching a security cam is a pretty easy job and you'll almost never have to do anything
I worked as a nighttime security guard for a major logistics company. The workplace serves to lower the seven figure insurance fee. On the off chance you see someone breaking in or whatever during your routes or on cameras your only duty was to report it to call the cops, call the shift supervisor and send a report to the company office that you called the cops and informed the shift supervisor. Nobody actually gives a frick if something gets stolen or someone breaks in, it's all insured anyways.
what was his 'night job' he had to get to? such are typically security-type roles but he didn't seem physically intimidating/imposing enough for such a position
Most of those night watchman or modern security jobs don't require being intimidating at all. They're only there as a minor deterrent. Or to watch a screen. The main part of their job is to call the cops if something actually happens.
BTW there is a zombie Simpsons episode where his kid (?) tries to kill Homer and co. I think the one piece of continuing characterization he gets is that he liked hookers or something like that. Further proof that zombie Simpsons showrunners just don't get it or, at some point, stopped caring.
That episode is also a Sideshow Bob episode.
It's like they knew they had to get Kelsey Grammer to do a GOAT Bob performance to cushion the blow of their shitty writing.
Responsibility is bad you should sit on the couch watch TV and drink beer that is the ideal American role model taking responsibility is bad it is the way of the devil.
WTF they turned chud into a simpson character?

He was bitter.
