I've never seen it, but I did see the trailer all the time on movies I watched as a kid, and it never grabbed my attention much
That's an entire subgenre of children's films from the VHS era. All the trailers you knew by heart but never the whole thing. Lotta Don Bluth films in that bin, maybe because of their vaguely threatening, taboo aura of 80's pervert filth that even a kid can pick up on.
It's really really forgettable and mediocre.
The only thing I remember about this movie was some weirdo who had an ED article who was obsessed with R34 of the fat guy
High production budget. Seriously look at the estimated budget. It's hgiher than any other Disney animated feature by at least 20 million. It would have broke even at least in some respects had it a smaller budget but it was estimated at 140 million, without marketing costs. It lacks a clear target audience and like Atlantis isn't demographically targeted like Mulan, The Little Mermaid, etc.
It only managed to make 109 million. It would've needed close to 300 million to break even.
Yeah, a smaller budget wouldn't have helped much. It could've been profitable if the film cost 40 million instead, but slashing the budget from 140 to 40 would've resulted in an entirely different movie.
It's not that great. The kid's age feels way off too. Like they were somehow aiming the film at a younger demographic than it should have logically been,
lame shit
the robot killed it
While we're here can we all agree this poster is terrible
This is much better.
That's the second iteration though, the first one (picrel) had Amelia looking away and Dr. Doppler instead of Silver. I think it was used on the VHS release.
That one's beautiful.
Too technical to hold kids attention. The scenes with the Doctor may as well be a foreign language .
Johnny from goo goo dolls had a great song for the soundtrack.
It's not kino, it was meh
Anything with son / father plots always fricking gets me, so I of course love it.
Fricking same, its my favorite movie by Disney other than Dumbo and Atlantis.
+ great concept
+ fantastic art
+ fantastic setting
- terrible plot
- some deadweight / detracting characters
- relatively niche appeal
>- some deadweight / detracting characters
too many wacky comic relief characters, and not like in a goofy ensemble way, like the professor guy and the gay robot serve basically the exact same role
>terrible plot
it's literally treasure island
Name one memorable character other than Silver
I WANT A MOMENT TO BE REAL
WANNA TOUCH THINGS I DONT FEEL
WANNA HOLD ON AND FEEL I BELOOONG
The fact that this is basically a Disney song is hilarious to me
CGI started taking over and no one watched to see traditional animation anymore. If would be a Disney classic if it came out in the mid 90’s
Honestly one of Disney's best. A shame they shoehorned in that shitty, unfunny, purposeless robot in the third act.
Anybody have the greentext of the guy who made his own fork arm because of this movie?
I love Amelia, even if she canonically has a penis.
Oh anon please, say it ain't so!
I miss 2D animation so much
Because it's not good. It had some cool ideas and potential, but overall was mediocre, same with Atlantis.
>ruins your kino
I've LOST my MIND XD
Tbf, Disney always includes useless annoying characters that singlehandedly drag the movie down, especially around that era.
Why do people complain about BEN so much? He's barely in the fricking movie.
probably because its a white kid and white man bad
