Most of the characters were. I mean side characters like this were just changed for easy joke bait. The main characters are barely characters and are just written in whatever fashion fits the craply jokes they're trying to tell. Peter and Lois are now both psychopathic monsters.

When they lost the imperative to have Joe also be a character you truly LIKED it was easy to make his handicap and demeanor be a case of suicidal depression due to his inability to live comfortably.

American Dad, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, even Rick and Morty are all now about one of the characters learning a life lesson that they have already learned a million times before.
