UrbanSpook is the most moronic thing that has ever gotten praise. The pretension that it's a police document doesn't work when there's shitty tryhard music blasting and just constant typographical errors and nonsensical grammar. The creator can't write for shit, he needs someone to control him. His art, which while alright, is drowned in the shitty writing and it is more of a comedy than horror.

          Anonymous

He's obviously an ESL, but I see the series as just a cool framing device to show off his art. I don't really think he intended for it to be more than that either.

            Anonymous

That's the problem, the framing device isn't cool. The art could speak for itself if he just had a tardwrangler.

                Anonymous

Yes there is literally only one autist on this site, you have profiled me and my habits. I am not upset, and you have no argument to defend UrbanSpook's shittiness. The edginess of the framework would work to it's advantage if it was well written, but the edginess loses its stride and believability specifically because the writing is bad. ESL is no excuse here, either the framework works or doesn't. The art loses it's value when attached to such tripe. Dilate.

Conceptually yes, doorways can represent nearly anything given context. A door can be terrifying, but you know you need to be a skilled writer to pull that off. Just pointing out the concept of "space between designated spaces is a space out of place" isn't horror all on it's own. You need to work to that and build that concept in a persons mind.

I kinda understand it though. Remember that the death of large social areas and stuff like malls is quite recent, so their remains are still around. Millennials have a history with these places and understand that a mall was simply a collection of stores and a cool place to hang out when bored. Zoomers must look at malls like some sort of post apocalyptic society that was destroyed.

written horror will always be the best horror because it plays with your own mind, you scare yourself in a way, movies try too hard and fail miserably in almost all cases

The other day we was watching the original night of the living dead. I remember having this internal dialogue when i think the couple tried to steal the truck. Or maybe some other scene, but it involved driving the truck... anyway i thought to myself "why don't they just run over the zombies... oh, wait, those are real actors and this is a movie". You can't show everything you want. And modern effects just made everything more sterile. You can't beat the power of imagination

What I appreciate about zoomer horror is that they drop all the artistic pretense. Gen Xanax horror movies have like half an hour of build-up with characters you don't give a shit about. Millenial movies overdose on mental illness and metaphor. Zoomers get straight to the point, giving you cool monsters, unsettling atmospheres, and bizarre storylines from the get go. Even the most contentious gen Z horror like The Backrooms offer an immediately compelling premise without the need for human dramatization.

The real problem with zoomers, aside from their lack of intelligence, is their lack of attention span. They "marathon" TV episodes that are 20 minutes long for example or "ultra-marathon" a movie that's on 90 minutes (unless it's capeshit because the loud noises and colorful imagery can keep them entertained despite the lack of substance).

Most movies are made with a check-list from the producers, they need this and this, but not that element in the movie. Not even talking about diversity, it can be any bullshit (if you want an example, check the Kevin Smith Superman movie story about Jon Peters.) Horror movies are a little too by the books. Bedroom creaters can do whatever the frick they want, as long as they have the vision and the means. Terrifier was a breath of fresh air in my opinion. It's exactly that. It's like a long youtube video made by a practical effects artist. Hopefully we're getting a New New Hollywood soon and we're gonna see horror like the 70 and 80s.

zoomer horror is the equivalent of camp fire ghost stories. short, undeveloped, and built around some little stinger or shock ending. theyre unable to put the effort into developing something into a real story with a sense of artistry or craft. like a real horror writer has notebooks filled with little ideas and concepts for stories, of which they realize maybe 1% can be worked into a real quality story, whereas the zoomer will just read all of those little blurbs while dropping in some windows movie maker effects.

zoomers can make some good stuff but are so autistic by default that they cant understand specifically what or how a thing is scary in a larger context so it rarely succeeds. i think the backrooms is exemplary of this, theyre supposed to take up the mantle of maintaining civilization and its just endless hallways and rooms and time stretched out but all the while are completely detached from the motivations and state of mind that their predecessors could rely on.

tldr zoomer horror stems from feelings of detachment and fear of the future but theyre too smoothbrained to express it in a meaningful way beyond youtube scp bullshit
