OP is either baiting or an utter moron. He's a homosexual regardless.

To recap, after the franchise's slump during the 1990s, the production committee behind SEED (Sunrise, Bandai and MBS) conceived it right from the start as a close remake/reimagining of the original series, to the point of directly copying the entire first arc from it:
      >Gundam being developed on a lone colony on L5
      >asteroid fortress with unfriendly allies
      >battle in orbit directly followed by desert arc with an enemy ace

Morosawa's admitted inexperience with the franchise was perfect for these plans, since they wouldn't have to deal with an Imagawa-type situation, where the staff inserts their own ideas instead of following what the suits want.

What is with the constant, godawful flashbacks? Every dramatic moment is undercut by a flashback. Flay tries to shoot Dearka? Show a flashback of it after it happened less than 30 seconds ago in-story. Show a million flashbacks of Nikol becoming half the man he used to be. These endless flashbacks severely undercut what should be good dramatic and character moments. Every time it feels like we might get a good moment, in goes a flashback. Was the production that troubled that they needed to recycle so much animation to keep things going?

I don't think they were good in the first place. Too soap opera drama.

And to answer your question, shitty directing. I don't remember any other Gundam series (or anime, period) that abused flashbacks the way SEED did. Stock footage ("bank", in industry jargon) is a different bag of potatoes, and Toei is by far the worst offender.

I'm pretty sure there was that one EA officer who had more lines in flashbacks than in real time. Studio must have saved some yen on reusing so many lines.

contrary to popular belief I don't think the use of flashbacks in SEED was largely a money issue, after seeing Fukuda's non Gundam work I've noticed it's just something he likes to do. Or maybe his wife liked to do.

Head screenwriter, credited with writing most of the series' episode, who admitted to know very little about mecha anime. At least Fukuda proved he had a sliver of competence with Cyber Formula. It's the same reason people blame Okuichi for G-Witch, or Fukui for Unicorn/Narrative/Yamato 2202, and not their respective directors.

      >a sole boogeywoman
"Sole"? Have you been on /m/ for an hour, newhomosexual? The people responsible for the disaster that was SEED are, in order:
      >1. Head screenwriter Chiaki Morosawa

      >4. Chief producer Seiji Takeda
      >5. Soichiro Hoshi

Everyone else proved their worth and competence in other projects they made, especially Shigeru Morita, who wrote the technical settei for the series and the screenplay for Stargazer.

Despite the nonsense with Rau and Mwu, Coordinators are supposed to be the CE's Newtypes, as the setting's "human innovation".

        Anonymous

So, were all spacenoids newtypes, then? Were all newtypes spacenoids? When was the idea of newtypes introduced into the original story, and why?

          Anonymous

Anon, you aren't making any sense. "Spacenoids" are just the people who live in space, whereas "Newtypes" are meant to be the next step in human evolution in the UC, which is what Coordinators are supposed to be for SEED.

          >When was the idea of newtypes introduced into the original story
The term "Newtype" itself appears for the first time in episode 38 of First Gundam, but the concept of espers had been mentioned before on the series, when Matilda points out Amuro's abilities. Furthermore, the overall idea is present on the planning documents for the series, dating back to 1978.

          >and why
Not only were psychic powers a usual sight on anime and science fiction of the era (a lot of them influenced by Star Wars, obviously), but Tomino himself still has a bunch of kooky ideas about evolution and whatnot.

            Anonymous

            >"Newtypes" are meant to be the next step in human evolution in the UC
You're talking about contolism, which was a spacenoid supremacist theory that had no correlation with how newtypes actually work. I'm bringing up when it was introduced in the series to draw attention to the concept's dramatic purpose.

              Anonymous

              >You're talking about contolism
I am? No, I am not. I'm talking about Newtypes themselves. Although their appearance matched up with Deikun's ramblings about Spacenoid independence, they are not the same thing. For one, Earthnoids like General Revil and Bright have Newtype-like symptoms.

Again, I don't understand where you are going with this. In SEED, Coordinators are supposed to be the evolution of mankind that Newtypes were in the UC. This is made clear by the story itself and interviews with staff.

                Anonymous

Newtypes were flukes that appeared irregularly as special individuals and eventually all but fizzled out of existence. Coordinators are an entire race and nation that formed following in the footsteps of a certain ideologue.

                >and eventually all but fizzled out of existence

You say padding, I say look at the comprehension of modern anime viewers and tell me they retain information worth half a damn.

20 years later, when attention spans have supposedly been destroyed by smartphones and web 2.0, the average viewer has little difficulty following the average show, which doesn't ever use flashbacks. Besides, half of the flashbacks occur immediately after their contents were just directly alluded to and in some cases happened less than 5 minutes ago.

Not that anon, but probably Ride Back given how both have motorcycle bots with Nana Mizuki in the main role.

Maybe Fukuda found out about Kangoku Senkan and wanted a piece of it for himself.

Would certainly explain the lips on all the female character designs in the new movie.

Because when Seed was written the internet wasn't as ubiquitous or streamlined as it is now, so the only people with ready access to old gundam media were those lucky enough to own old home releases, recorded VHS tapes or those of us in the then budding peer 2 peer file communities. Seed was seen at the time as an affectionate retread of "classic" gundam with a new millennium spin. It wasn't really seen as creatively bankrupt or offensive as the last 4 gundam series had been pretty massive departures from those older UC shows. So for its time it WAS a breath of fresh air. At least until Destiny.

You're talking nonsense. Japan has always had a huge home video market, to the point Bandai has its own division for it, Emotion (the moai).
While VHS was almost exclusively used for rentals, Laserdisc was the dominant home video format.

I can't even blame Engrish for that one. "宇宙" literally translates to "space", as in "cosmos, universe".
