    Movie "critics" are failed filmmakers

Pretty much. Critics are categorically uncreative midwits and as far as I know there has never been an online critic that had made anything good. It's either "ironically" bad like RLM, Nostalgia Critic, etc to avoid criticism or tryhard and aggressively mediocre like Lindsay Ellis.

It seems critics are just incapable of being creative. They spend so much time critiquing things and getting into the menusea of filmmaking and writing and what is "good" and "critically acclaimed" they are incapable of making anything good or creative.

I still like their videos, but let's face it, the guys are losers.

I'm not sure even if I can call them failed filmmakers, "failed" implies trying. They never made a real movie, other than that stupid thriller crap with a girl, I don't remember the name. "The Repossessed", something like that. "The Re-something". No one cares about that movie. I think not even 1% of their subscribers even know it exists. If that counted as an attempt, it'd be total failure.

If these losers weren't leeching off excess attention from big pop culture garbage franchises they'd still be making shitty wedding videos.

These guys are pushing 50 and getting all snooty about how they don't like some crap movie made for children. Well, duh. You know what 50 year olds aren't suppose to give a crap about either? Star trek and the evil dead. That's for children. Or manchildren too, I 'spouse.

But you see, they're not regular manchildren, they are slightly more discriminating manchildren! Yes! Give these men a badge.

They are just a hipster snooty version of collider. That's why they hate collider so much. They depend on leeching off of pop culture garbage franchises for their livelihood the same way. Do you think people would watch them if they were doing The Gabowskis or whatever still, instead of becoming full blown pop culture parasites?

this, they have some great ideas and would probably be better as writers but definitely not as screenwriters, actors or directors. They are the same as James Rolf was when he was 12 years old making movies, starting off with a good idea and then fricking around towards the end half-assing everything and gassing out, exhausting all creativity and energy. Their documentary gorilla interrupted is a great insight into their work ethic and 'talent'
There's a reason why they have totally embraced their half ass, drunkard rant schtick. I only wish they did more movie commentaries, those were ok.

It wasn't a serious attempt at making a movie. If any of them had the talent to make something decent they would have dominated the project and elevated it to a higher standard. Far better films have been made with way less money than they pissed away on this crap.

They half assed it so that when people rightfully criticize it for being bad they can save face by saying they never really tried so it doesn't count

Effort is what makes actually bad movies like Troll 2 or The Room enjoyable. The directors wanted to make a good movie but were so incompetent that the results are fascinating and humorous. Shit like Kung Fury and Space Cop are just cop outs.

        >but were so incompetent
I'd argue that a lack of any level of self-awareness is an important feature of those films, especially with The Room.

True. RLM have the opposite problem: they're too self-aware and that makes them afraid to be sincere about anything.

Exactly this. They’re cowards. Their entire fame came from criticizing directors and how they would have improved things, so when they had the opportunity to do just that, they made it a joke so they couldn’t be called out for being hypocrites and hacks.

        >how they would have improved things

I really dislike how YouTube-era critique has de-evolved into this. There's no respect for the creator's vision, no attempt to interpret what they're trying to say. Just 'I didn't like it and here's how I think it could be made better'. And it's mostly RLM's fault.

The Nostalgia Critic and his copycats buckbroke Mike by pumping out thousands of videos nitpicking everything. He could have been the best nitpicker of them all but chose to become something different something he sucks at instead. It's not just the movies they make, their movie recommendations are also shit. They're only good at mocking.

Because these homosexuals are insincere and will not take a chance making a serious movie. So instead they'll make irony shield shit that they can use to deflect criticism.

Here's a better question: when did the general opinion on Cinemaphile turn against RLM? Was it the Star Wars sequels?

A little bit, yes. I started to understand how much JJ was similar to them, in making his glib facsimile of the OT. But there were some decent takedowns of their reviews (to me), that showed how dishonest some of them were.
Was never a fan of their best of the worst of half in the bag, so maybe I was just less brainwashed to begin with.

It was a gradual process. With Mike Stoklasa, he became worse and worse. Even people who like RLM get annoyed with Mike (even those that want to have sex with him). Mike’s opinions and taste have become more and more terrible, to the point it feels like he has become more and more dumb. It is made worse by him constantly trying to virtues signal. And now the reading off paper of reviews and going on long tangents on how he would have made the movie make him a slog to listen to. Not to mention him defending Nepo babies and sucking off Hollywood. It is to the point that Jack is less annoying than Mike.

Post-Covid Red Letter Media just isn’t as good as Prime Red Letter Media.

They are indeed as hacky as they appear to be on all their israeliteTube vids. I live in Milwaukee and worked in the indie filmmaking scene there for about a decade. I had a few dealings with them, and they are pretty much non-creative morons.

It would’ve done better if they had released it at the apex of their popularity instead of earlier, but that shit still sucks. The “we’re making a shit movie on purpose guys” schtick is lame.
