Why did the Imperials not return to Lothal?
Don't fricking tell me they let Thrawn's disappearance go because they were scared of space whales.

They probably did. The epilogue is set after the war.
The wiki explicitly says the Imperial retaliation never came.
Well, it was some backwater shithole so I suppose there was no use wasting resources on trying to retake it. The Empire had bigger fish to fry.
Yeah, I get that. Maybe I'm missing something but I'm sure the Empire wouldn't just let that whole thing go, since it would (and did) lead to effective rebellion.
If they could carpet bomb Mandalore, why the hell not this shitty little planet? Why draw the line there?
Because Mandalore was a threat.
Okay fair point
So what else was going on around this time that the Empire wouldn't have time/resources to bomb Lothal out of sheer spite?

The Galactic Civil War. The Rebel Alliance retreated from Lothal, so it wasn’t a sound military target. I suppose you could say it was a symbol of resistance… but then again, it is a shithole, while Alderaan was a israeliteel of the Core Worlds.
The Rebel Alliance retreated from Lothal?
Well why did they do that? Weren't THEY expecting retaliation?
I'm not expecting more stories from this era or location or anything, it was just jarring to hear that after all that spectacle the galaxy just forgot about Lothal.
Lothal is a civilian world, it was never a Rebel base like Yavin, or Dantooine, or Hoth. It’s strange it never came up, because it’d be the prime candidate for a Rebel sympathizer world, and a potential hideout. So eh…
Maybe the Empire had deployed some ISB agents or probes there from time to time, and they found nothing worthwhile.
Just taking a look at the timeline, it seemed Lothal was liberated the same year that construction was wrapping up on the Death Star.
My best guess then is that the Empire would have been back with the Death Star if it didn't get sploded.
Oh hey
The spectacle was pretty localised, and the Empire suddenly had much more on their plate to deal with very soon after. The liberation happened in 1 BBY, and was near concurrent with the final phases of the Death Star's construction. Why send another fleet, we'll have the Death Star soon! Then the Rebels *blow the Death Star up* and all efforts shift to trying to maintain order and pin the Rebels down. Lothal was far enough out of the way and not important enough to warrant retaking.
It's funny to think Ezra missed being in A New Hope by like a year. He almost met Luke and saw Leia again.
you seem to be under the false impression that the empire was the bad guys
They had bigger fish to fry, especially after the destruction of the Death Star.
They had Mandalore to annihilate and Rebels to start paying attention to since the Death Star was blown up
The tie defender program was out of commission, and all the resources went to the Death Star instead. Lothal was pointless.
I forgot about the Tie Defender program. That, and the Death Star were probably the reasons that the Empire cut their links with Lothal. Good point.
Going to be interesting seeing him and Thrawn getting caught up on everything they missed.
My bad
You think Thrawn has any tie defenders on the Chimaera? It'd be cool to see them in live-actiokln.
