      yes anon, I'm sure it was just bromance, Homer said "no homo" while writing so it was okay, his contemporaries mentioning them as gays was surely just a coincidence, Plato also didn't read the Iliad before commenting on it.

        The Iliad is set during the bronze age collapse, i.e. hundreds of years before the golden age of gayreek pederasty. Straight Achilles is a based and correct interpretation.

          The truth is that one of the weaknesses in nature-worship and mere mythology had already produced a perversion among the Greeks, due to the worst sophistry; the sophistry of simplicity. Just as they became unnatural by worshipping nature, so they actually became unmanly by worshipping man. If Greece led her conqueror, she might have misled her conqueror; but these were things he did originally wish to conquer-even in himself. It is true that in one sense there was less inhumanity even in Sodom and Gomorrah than in Tyre and Sidon. When we consider the war of the demons on the children we cannot compare even Greek decadence to Punic devil worship. But it is not true that the sincere revulsion from either need be merely pharisaical. It is not true to human nature or to common sense. Let any lad who has had the look to grow up sane and simple in his day-dreams of love hear for the first time of the cult of Ganymede [i.e. cultists hunting down and raping young boys to reenact the myth of Zeus raping his cupbearer]; he will not be merely shocked but sickened. And that first impression, as has been said here so often about first impressions, will be right.

    Why wouldn't they? The Iliad doesn't show him fricking anyone from what I can recall but he gets really mad about Agamemnon taking Briseis away from him- which to me suggests that even if he fricked guys, he ALSO fricked girls. Generally from what I can recall the Iliad and Odyssey do not directly mention any homosexual relationships - open discussion of homosexuality is more of a Classical Greece kind of thing, and Classical Greece happened several hundred years after the Iliad and Odyssey took form.
    To be fair, the movie is not an Iliad adaptation, it is a new take on the Trojan War that takes part but not all of its plot from the Iliad. So maybe there is no reason for me to emphasize the Iliad too much in my analysis. But I am not very familiar with Trojan War literature other than the Iliad and Odyssey, and I am not sure what if anything they say about Achilles' sexuality.

        being horny for boys is literally the origin point of plato's philosophy. like, before you were born you directly experienced transcendent ideals like "pure beauty," and since the most beautiful thing on earth is a teenage boy, looking at one causes you to get a flashback to the pure world of ideas and the longing for pure beauty manifests as desire for the boy. this is, for plato, how a man becomes a philosopher, by getting a hardon for a boy and then contemplating where it came from. no hardon for boys means your soul is too weak to remember pure beauty and you'll never be a philosopher.

        they probably fricked more young girls than gay asses.

        some of them appreciated the highest form of intellect and beauty, a muscular, well built warrior body. women are mostly attractive when young, they are stupid and can never achiece anything without males giving it to them.

        Its obvious why great ancient cultures appreciated men... They were builders, thinkers, heroes. Meanwhile women were hairy and smelly complaining losers, just like now.

    You can't just go around fricking a girl every day. She's going to get pregnant eventually.

    So the male Greeks like many ancient cultures just fricked each other for fun. (They also didn't have very favorable views of women seeing them as insane and emotional).

    So they would even platonically love their male friends, which they would spend many years with at war or working.

    Women again were just something that took your money, and food but raised the kids while you went on an adventure with the boys.

So now achilles tries ruin agamemenon's life and the greek campaign. In doing so he gets his cousin patrocles killed. Then feels like shit for being so petty. The only homosexual thing was wanting to have his ashes mixed with patrolces. Which is pretty gay. But modern gays are monsters in comparison. At best achilles is bi.

    The whole plot of the Iliad is that Achilles is mad that Agamemnon took his girlfriend Briseis away. Achilles nearly kills the Greek king/general Agamemnon over it, but decides instead to sulk on his ship while the Trojans start owning the Greeks, until the Trojans kill Patroclus and Achilles decides to fight again for the sake of revenge. There's no hint or reference to Achilles and Patroclus having a sexual relationship.

      Hector's speech before his single combat with Ajax
      ***

      Great Hector first amidst both armies broke
      The solemn silence, and their powers bespoke:

      “Hear, all ye Trojan, all ye Grecian bands,
      What my soul prompts, and what some god commands.
      Great Jove, averse our warfare to compose,
      O’erwhelms the nations with new toils and woes;
      War with a fiercer tide once more returns,
      Till Ilion falls, or till yon navy burns.
      You then, O princes of the Greeks! appear;
      ’Tis Hector speaks, and calls the gods to hear:
      From all your troops select the boldest knight,
      And him, the boldest, Hector dares to fight.
      Here if I fall, by chance of battle slain,
      Be his my spoil, and his these arms remain;
      But let my body, to my friends return’d,
      By Trojan hands and Trojan flames be burn’d.
      And if Apollo, in whose aid I trust,
      Shall stretch your daring champion in the dust;
      If mine the glory to despoil the foe;
      On Phœbus’ temple I’ll his arms bestow:
      The breathless carcase to your navy sent,
      Greece on the shore shall raise a monument;
      Which when some future mariner surveys,
      Wash’d by broad Hellespont’s resounding seas,
      Thus shall he say, ‘A valiant Greek lies there,
      By Hector slain, the mighty man of war,’
      The stone shall tell your vanquish’d hero’s name
      And distant ages learn the victor’s fame.”

      This fierce defiance Greece astonish’d heard,
      Blush’d to refuse, and to accept it fear’d.

      The actor would have been considered a slob and weak. It's very difficult for modern people to understand how different Greeks were to modern humans at the time of the Trojan war.

      Physically he would have looked something closer to this. 7 ft + tall. His bones would have been 2 maybe 3 times thicker than modern humans. Ajax could likely beat modern strongman records today with ease. Greeks at this time could run 7 miles in full armor and then battle for hours.

      They had that weird genetic "Double Muscle Mutation" that was rediscovered in modern Greek children recently, The mutation makes you twice as strong without working out, with twice the muscle mass, and the Greeks worked out all the time.

    This illustrates one of the many reasons why I detest modern western society: Everything is sexualised. There can be no room for platonic friendship between men. If men have any closeness and warmness towards one another, then they must be buggering each other. Why else would they be so close and caring for each other?

    I'm also pretty sure Achilles was gay for Patroclus BUT I did hear an interesting lecture about how they might not have been and it was more the kind of rid or die mentality you hear about in context of modern day gang culture. I've dumbed it down a bit but that was the general idea. Not saying the famously bent Greeks weren't gaying it up but it was an interesting listen and does explain why it's never explicitly stated in the Iliad
