Because it came out on streaming the same day.
i think the fact the movie was called THE Suicide Squad and the fact the first one wasn't very good even though this was a better film for the most part. and these
It released in the middle of lockdown and was also streaming the same day
In my humble opinion, they should've marketed the rat girl more and then they'd have really brought in the big bucks
thin and:
>having a nearly identitical title to the first badly received movie
>r rating
>the Delta variant (lol) was being but in the spotlight, making people avoid theaters
Why the lol?
Because it was just a flu at that point and wasn't killing anyone.
It was a same day release for theaters and streaming. I watched that shit at home. I'm sure others did too.
i live in Canada, i didn't have that luxury thankfully the theatres were open when it came out on my end unlike with Godzilla vs. Kong. i was so livid when that happened.
My entire state was in lockdown. Couldn't find a single theatre online to book tickets. Don't know if it was like this for other countries at the time. The trailers didn't have much hype as well.
I should give this another watch tbh, I haven't seen it since it came out
I remember it being good, and a definite improvement over the 2016 film, but it also had some kinda glaring flaws. The most major problem I remember is that James Gunn really should've held himself back in a few key moments. He let the Troma slip through too much. Webm related is a good example, because it's a kino moment almost nearly entirely ruined by the unnecessary and bizarre CGI heart shot that's straight out of Mortal Kombat. Similarly, Polka Dot Man's death was also unnecessary and edgy.
But I really liked that it took on some of the more niche DC stuff and did it well. I didn't think Warner Bros would ever put Starro in a film, but here we are. And aside from the Troma moments, it's got a good comic book tone to it and the character interactions/dynamics are all pretty great. Though the absolute best part about the whole film is that it introduced me to Daniela Melchior
>I didn't think Warner Bros would ever put Starro in a film
kinda sad now that they didn't do that for Justice League. Avengers got to have its original comic book villain Loki. Starro should've had his due.
fricking Steppenwolf being the first villain of the first ever Justice League film was mind-boggling decision among many
It was a good idea in two bad movies. While I do agree they could've gone for something more original than "muh darkseid and his lackeys", I'd already given up hope on anything legitimately interesting after the way Snyder wasted Doomsday on the very second movie.
Doomsday was a shit villain anyways, and i'm glad they got him out of the way early.
The problem is that out of all Darkseid's lackeys, Steppenwolf is one that has the least personality. Where the frick is Granny Goodness and Kalibak?
Personally I wish they had taken starro a bit more seriously instead of reducing him to just another Kaiju. Imagine an Alien-style horror movie set in the DC universe with Starro as a facehugger style monster.
I loved the movie, my only issue is that the third act was kind of mediocre. I love that they gave Gunn free reign.
>John Cena
>American Hero
What a joke
The first movie had a Joker that, while cringe, people were interested in seeing, and Harley being sexy. This movie had dated Gen X humor and Harley in a not-sexy outfit.
>This movie had dated Gen X humor
This. It's just trying so hard to be funny while not understanding comedy. It's Gunn at this worse
>and Harley in a not-sexy outfit.
>implying red dress Harley wasn't sexy
Also, putting my coomer tendencies aside for a second, that black and red jacket outfit she wore at the start was way better as a modern Harley look than the 2016 loose punk "clown" version
It's not as easily cosplayable.
Because it was woke. That’s what you want to hear, right OP?
The Suicide Squad walked so Peacemaker could run
I didn't even know this movie existed before release. The advertisements were nonexistent, and when my family wanted to watch it on HBOmax, I was confused as hell as to why they would watch that awful 2016 suicide squad movie only to find out it was a new one.
>It was a sequel to a movie nobody liked.
>continuity between those two movies was fricked by the behind the scenes drama at WB.
>In a cinematic universe everyone had been demanding a reboot of since Justice League.
>Release was ruined by the pandemic so those that wanted to see it couldn't.
>There was backlash to John Cena for being a sellout to the Chinese Communist party.
>James Gunns works when he's working in the restraints of a PG-13 rating. Not a hard R.
>James Gunns works when he's working in the restraints of a PG-13 rating. Not a hard R.
Explain
James Gunns edgy brand of humor is actually funny when he's forced to hold back the most immature jokes to keep a PG-13 rating. See Peacemaker making so many poop jokes.
I am not him but I'd be inclined to agree. I have no love for Troma beyond a few 80's movies before they became too obvious with the joke . Scooby Doo was better off without the edgy, cliche riffs like Shaggy being a confirmed actual stoner or Velma being a lesbian(keeping it vague was funnier) I really like the GOTG movies, but I wasn't fond of Super or slither.
The P-13 Rating forces Gunn to think outside the box, to be less edgy, more resourceful, less predictable.
Harley wasn't as hot as she was in the first one.
Poison brand
I didnt know if it was a reboot or a sequel
I saw it at home and I thought it was way better than the other shitty movie.
>Miss Rona
>Coming out on streaming at the same time
>A continuation of a film that's widely hated
>An R rating
HARLEY IS NOT WEARING BOOTY SHORTS!
no marvel logo no social media buzzing about it
Well technically t was heavily advertised that the guy who did Guardians of the Galaxy was doing this movie. Just like Whedon doing Justice League they thought the DCU was saved.
It didnt have the Calender Man scene Gunn almost did but chickened out on, it would have had people fricking going nuts and giving it huge buzz.
What Calendar Man scene?
because DC as a whole had negative hype at that time
People supported Godzilla and Dune instead but watched it at home
Same with MK
