I liked it but thought it was too fanciful of a movie with all the CGI. Had it at least tried to use some practical effects I think it would have appealed to more people.
Wrong targeting/tone deaf. Honestly I turned it off after maybe 10min. The story is meant to be pure nostalgia bait for boomers and gen-xers and maybe early millenials but like said it's too heavy on the CGI and looks like it's for little kids, who wouldn't get any of the references might I add.
Have you read the book? I couldn’t get past the first chapter of the book because its literally just nostalgia bait, so the movie was at least true to source material. At least the film was visually entertaining.
It flopped because the plot was centered around vapid boomer shit that no one cared about.
I know what the Shining is, I know what Gundam is, I know what racing games are, and I know Mecha Godzilla. The rest? It didn't mean shit to me. I never played that final game and I don't give a shit about the 80s.
If you're going to release a videogame movie in 2018 then you need shit that people actually played. It should have involved pacman, asteroids, duck hunt, mario, sonic, or hell even Pokemon or something.
I switched off whenever they were in VR and the CGI fest began tbh.
I know why they limited the franchises, but I felt it hurt the story a bit when they were missing.
>removal of plot points and dumbing down the puzzles >cutting the free dungeon world, >not focusing on how poor he was and that he couldn’t afford to leave, instead he just sucks up coins? >hurrr durrr no one has tried driving backwards. >Everyone would’ve tried driving backwards, >Main character wasn’t a fat nerd who got fit in vr.
I found myself being more interested in the real life sections, but wish they went more into the vending machine guns and body armour and the place being an absolute shithole…
Shit generic movie using IP’s as a cheap gimmick with little to no substance. Steven Spielberg really tried capturing the magic or the essence of his glory days and just horribly failed. He should feel ashamed to think he knew Kubrick and decided to degrade his work in such a way
Because they sent out the fricking RX-78 in the fricking ZZ pose and didn't give it a beam rifle so it could do a last shooting when it blew up. Anybody who gave a frick about Gundam left unsatisfied and anybody who didn't didn't get enjoyment out of a mediocre fight.
I'm surprised so many of you are rage posting and shiting on this movie. Maybe it's because I just caught it on a lazy saturday afternoon but I thought it was fun and easy. Some ultimate alternate reality game world, cartoon villains, some fun game sequences when they're looking for the keys and of course the insecure hot girl who is hotter than the avatar she created in game. I liked it.
I find that a lot dystopian / cyberpunk themed sci-fi movies flop. Both Blade Runners flopped, the live action Ghost In The Shell from 2017 flopped and i'm sure many more did. The reason? Probably because normies cannot bear to fa how society is becoming.
Because it was mid
>The Anti-Bradbury book.
>steven speilberg presents: This Face: The Movie
>Cinemaphile hates happiness
but why?
Literally just because these guys have ugly girlfriends. If they had hot girlfriends everyone would try to be like them

>Spielberg
Wtf he's definitely losing it

Sucked.
>Why did this flop?
Because boys have a penis, and girls have a vegana (no exceptions)
Is $607 million in 2018 really a flop? In 2023 money that would be $742 million.
That's worldwide. It cost $155M to produce and in the US it made $133M. That's not even factoring in the marketing budget.
It's cringy as frick
It's for kids
I'd forgotten the leg memes..
It felt like it was pandering and trying too hard.
no dlc for mando or lizzo
The chick was OK but the main actor was fricking awful
That nog on the poster is supposed to be female. Guess what her sexuality is
I'm trying to guess your sexuality because you sound like a whiney b***h.

>I liked the Shining part though.
The movie needed more Oiliva Cooke. This is now an Olivia Cooke thread.
One of my favorite movies to put on when it’s raining. I really enjoy it but my wife doesn’t
Spielberg could have made a Snow Crash movie but his dumb ass opted for the shitty YA knockoff with 99% less substance and 30000% more branding.

it makes me embarrassed that my favorite vtuber likes this movie

midwit take
>I had high expectations
>for a pop culture video game movie
joyless ragegay take
that's a poorly built strawman you've there, son. Take your final (You) and scram.
Sure thing (you) keep telling everyone what to like while creating nothing and b***hing online. Seems like a good plan.
I can't believe this is an actual book that people paid to read.
