I think it's the overall texture of the movie that threw people off, like everyone aroudn Buzz being brown except for the old white guy dying out, Buzz constantly having to be saved by brown people, the troony et the start of the movie, the cheap emotional exploitation, the blatant Interstellar rip off, etc.
Because the entire movie is about the dyke relationship and even builds up to a scene where Buzz salutes a statue of the black lesbian, and the entire conflict with Zurg revolved around helping the black lesbian.
Buzz defeats the bad guy who was doing everything for her. Buzz realizes and she loves her life there and decides that he will no longer try to return home, rather, he decides to just life his life there because of the life she lived in it with her wife and family. Goes to statue *Salute*
