Holy shit that guy talks like such a gay.
      >What would happen if Elrond just kicked Isildur into Mount Doom with the one ring?
      >Hark, ye merry men of olde, and feast thine ears upon my tale as I regale ye with...
      Try this instead.

      >The humans and the elves would have turned against each other, with the humans trying to avenge their slain king. Their respective army sizes were...

If he got any closer to Isildur, his elf bussy would've succumbed to the rings power and they would have just had a power frick over it.

Elves are power bottoms, so the fate of the world is down to the power of twerking.

This. Isildur had command of an army that was only one generation removed from the men who marched into Mordor and raped Saurons bussy. They would have genocided every elf in middle earth if anything happened to their king.

This. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. Also it was impossible for Elrond to know just how badly shit was going to get or that Sauron would even return.

He wouldn't have just gotten himself killed, he would've begun another hundred year war.
I suppose the real noble thing to do would've been kill Isildur AND himself.

If you think that Elrond would murder and lie then you completely misunderstood his character.

              >le misunderstood
Hes an elf ffs which have more wisdom than men. He shouldve sacrificed his friend over the billions of people that would suffer under sauron

Committing an evil act to create an imagined utopia does not cancel out the evil, Tolkien wasn't Alan Moore or any other communist atheist shithead. You're disgusting.

Its not an evil act if you kill a corrupted individual. It's more of a mercy

            >this good guy should have murdered his wartime friend and then built the foundations of a new world on a lie
This is why modern men should never adapt Tolkien, they're too evil to do anything but corrupt it.

    >just kill your friend because he made a bad choice
The elves just isolated themselves from the Ring bullshit which completely petered out for millennia until Bilbo got it.

Why don't morons understand that the Noldori Elves temptation for the ring is like x100 compared to that of the Easterlings. Elrond was probably using all his will in that moment not grab for the ring himself.

In the books does it go into detail more about other parts of the fellowship being drawn to the ring? talking about legolas or gimli here

Nobody had any idea of the corruptive influence of the ring or it's binding to Sauron's will and form.
As far as Isildur was concerned it may as well have been another ring on the level of the rest of the rings of power.

It doesn't matter because the scene was entirely Jackson fanfic anyway, doubt he ever thought through the implications of these decisions

because committing an act of evil to take the ring is exactly what the ring wants you to do. that's how sauron's will worms its way into the mind and corrupts people. that's literally the entire point of the story.

But hes not going to take the ring for himself. hes just going to throw his friend off to the hot magma along with the ring

It would've been a violation of Isildur's free will to interfere

God this threads filled with queers, the real question is why didn't elrond just kill isildur and take the ring for himself, become awesome and powerful, kill sauron and then gather and army of blood thirsty orcs and go around the world conquering motherfrickers, looting pillaging murdering Genociding torturing and raping them and the burn down everything they've built

How did Gollum manage to keep the ring for 500 years without abusing it or leading it back to Mordor?

Because at the time they had no idea Sauron would be able to return. Literally everyone assumed back then that Sauron had just been put down for good and the matter of the Ring was a minor detail that Elrond just had a bad hunch about, and that being only that it would be for the best if everything of Sauron's had just been salted food good. It was only ages later than Gandalf and Elrond realized the One Ring was a save state file for Sauron.

The modern equivalent would have been the British demanding the Americans just nuke Kabal once they had initially defeated the Taliban because they had a bad feeling the Taliban would be back one day after all.
