Why didn't he just enjoy the stable and comfortable life of a chain restaurant proprietor? He didn't even live extravagantly. His drug empire aspirations brought him nothing but loneliness and heartache and eventual death.

Why did they retcon it to make him a gay?
They never specified in BB, but people were already saying he was gay for his younger friend. So I guess they just retroactively confirmed it. We never saw Gus with a woman so it's not a retcon, it's possible he could have been gay in BB without any dissonance.
>We never saw Gus with a woman so it's not a retcon
You've never been seen with a woman either. Do you have something to admit, anon?
Ha! Gottem
But he mentions having a wife and child
Yeah this happens when Walt goes over for dinner right?
You now remember the first time Walt went to Gus’ house and had that fish stew that Gus had a living room with a bunch of toys in it.
If he doesn’t have kids (or young nieces/nephews etc) then I shudder to think about what’s being implied.
didn't hector call them homosexual in the scene where max dies in BB?
And? Those types use that as an insult.
Or are you implying if someone calls you gay then that makes you actually be gay? You gay.
only gen x and younger use it as an insult when its not true. boomers only use it as an insult when its the actual reality
i mean gen y
Source: your ass
I thought it was hinted that he was fricking that potato clock scientist , and then there's was a flashback when Salamanca killed his "partner" and Gus' reaction was as if he killed his lover, which pretty much confirmed his homosexualry. And this also explains Salamanca's visceral disdain for him.
He wouldn't even be running that chicken restaurant if not for the Cartel. He was locked in. Why do you think he tried to wipe them out?
He wanted vengeance, and was also subordinate to a violent cartel.
Also, there's a ton of people in the world for whom there is no greater ambition than "number goes up".
Why does he enjoy the stable and comfortable life of the movie?
smart drug dealers don't live extravagantly
I never watched BCS so idk if they got into his backstory. But he seemed like a mega autist who could have had an on ramp into drugs like Walt. He seemed identical in character to Walt in fact if he had managed to stay alive long enough to learn discipline and check his emotions. Basically autistically slavish to perfection.
they didn't, they just wasted a lot of screentime pointlessly with him for scenes that added absolutely nothing to BCS and weren't particularly interesting at all as backstory. Definitely one of the weaker things about BCS, all of his scenes could have been cut and nothing would change.
Yeah in that case I think the only reasonable explanation is that he is supposed to be an alternate universe Walter white. He got into drugs by some unorthodox means but once he was there he dedicated himself to being the best he could possibly be. Eventually whatever humanity he may have had was eroded way and he was left an empty robotic machine of death and perfection.
Walter was on the same path but was too emotionally moronic to stay alive
He and Max were already drug dealers when they tried to get in to business with the cartel. Then the cartel killed Max which locked him in to business with them and made his entire purpose for living, avenging Max.
>I think the only reasonable explanation is that he is supposed to be an alternate universe Walter white.
You said something really smart in a really stupid way. I agree, Gus is supposed to be a parallel character to Walter, that's why they get along at first, but when Gus is introduced he's already experienced quite a lot in his career and he knows the only way to survive is to always have a plan. He's like Walter in season 5, a calculating, cold person that wants to be in control.
Dude the Chicken restaurant chain was a money laundering front. Nothing but. He didn't give a frick about being a restaurateur. He just wanted to be rich.
Also he was beholden to the drug cartels in Mexico. If he retired from the drug business he would have been killed within days.
but why didn't he enjoyed it? was it the face he made the entire movie?
He got satisfaction from his job not enjoyment
Hey autists, the chicken restaurant was all he had left of his dead boyfriend
HA! GAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!
why doesn't anyone ever bring this shit up? woke ass show
Gus had a wife and children. The gay lover thing is headcannon
>Implying Mexicans from the 80s wouldn't be calling a dude a gay while violently proving a point if they thought he was gay
You should probably watch the show before posting in a thread about it
he didn't have a wife or children. BCS made that clear. however there is a scene where he implies he has kids in BB but that is completely ignored afterwards
he just put up a persona that Walt would be able to relate to
> however there is a scene where he implies he has kids in BB but that is completely ignored afterwards
The baby toys in his apartment were to guilt Walt about Holly and his duties as a provider.
>show features an ambiguously gay man
>he's the villain
>WOKE!!!!!
you do realize there are gay people irl right
4chin thinks it's a chinese psyop. Their favourite e-celeb told them
Is this the new Biden press playbook that just rolled out?
Shallom
there aren't though
Yeah and they should stop trying to inject themselves into every damn thing like some gay supremacist cultural imperialists.
You've been inundated in media so much there should be a 20 year drought on gay characters in any media to compensate.
what about the max center for kids who can't chemistry good?
Addiction to power. Just like walter had enough money to live comfortably multiple times and stayed cooking meth. Power corrupts
this is a fair question but it leads to another question: he had a great young cook who was making 96% pure meth with no hassle. He had the perfect setup and system. So this other slob makes meth that is slightly better, but he is dying of cancer and is bro-in-law is a fricking DEA agent.
First: how did Mike find out everything about Walt except that his BIL was a DEA agent? HE knew his cancer stage and job and everything else.
So, anyway, the answer is lazy writing and overlooking glaring plotholes.
because that's how he managed his drug empire, he was rarely there or in the back making phone calls
>He didn't even live extravagantly.
he doesn't know of Esposito's John Wick-ish tv show coming up, Parish
>spoiler
Boomerkinobros, we're eating good
Doesn't he mention having kids?
Just to play walt
he was a Black person, what else do you need to know?
He was entangled with the cartel, there was no getting out.
pretty sure he mentioned once in BB something about having a wife
OK, civilian
bump
How many billionaires could retire right now with more money than they could ever spend yet keep working? Becoming a billionaire takes a drive that personality that precludes anything but continued growth.
They are being blackmailed too, they are just front men being puppeteered by the deep state and don't actually control anything and can easily be replaced with lookalikes.
Unironically what was his long term plan after his revenge?
>MWAHAHAHA I HAVE TAKEN CONTROL OF THE CARTEL AND HAVE ENDLESS WEALTH
>but I also cannot spend it and live any real luxurious life without it being obvious I make money outside of my restaurant business
Just pile up the cash in his basement since he’s a gay with no kids?
