the reason, at one point, in teh comics was because ti was never about saving cultures from themselves. In Marvel, death has a consciousness. Thanos had a crush on that consciousness and wanted to impress her. So he sent her and assload of the dead. She didnt care and deadpool cucked him.

On his home planet, he tried to convince his people to genocide half their population to solve their resource problems. If he admits now that there were better solutions to that situation, then he'd have to admit he was just an butthole who jumped to trying to start a genocide with no good reason. So he's just gotta keep doubling down for the sake of his ego.

Is the 'why didn't he just increase the resources' thing a long running meme? The opening scene of Infinity War, and his scenes in Guardians 1, establishes he's a violent sadist who enjoys inflicting suffering on his enemies. His philosophy is a cover for his God complex and the trauma he endured when Titan was destroyed. It's not meant to be rational

The point is that Thanos prioritized being right over doing what was best for the universe. Think about it. If everything had gone exactly according to plan, if his forces had gotten the Stones on Earth without getting Avengered, Thanos would have completed the gauntlet on Titan, and done the Snap there. He wanted to point at the ghosts of his entire race and say "Look! I was right all along!"

Past Thanos learned that he was going to win, but that people would be trying to undo his victory, and what did he do? He doubled down like a Karen willfully ignoring the return policy, going from "kill half the universe" to "kill the ENTIRE universe". Thanos knew himself well. He knew that he wouldn't be able to resist the temptation forever.

The worst part is that you don't even need the gems for that, you have the Pym Particles (virtually unlimited resources) and Start tech (unlimited energy), it's funny how Titan smartest guys can't create something that two humans were able to create.

Not to mention that Thanos killed half the universe, that means he killed half the resources too... this is a case of Marvel going the "realistic" route with a motivation that normies loved because "Thanos was right!!1!" instead of going the love to Death route.

The real complaint is that he should have reduced every sentient race to a single population cluster sized so that they wouldn't reach their current population again for several thousand years. 1000 humans, less for things that breed like ants, more for things that breed like elephants.

Because the producers wanted to make an allegory for Earth's current state along with justiftying any future act of forced depopulation. Not content with that, this scene makes Thanos stubborn as frick because there were a bunch of possibilities including but not limited to making the space itself bigger, or perhaps stimulate space colonization, among others.

      Anonymous

Its worth pointing out that the people of Titan didn't die from starvation, they died from war. The number of resources wasn't what killed them, it was fighting over control of those resources.
Double or even triple what they had, and they still would have inevitably come to blows over it because there are always people who have a slice but want the whole pie.

  24. 9 months ago
    Anonymous

Increase resources and the universe's population will just increase to match them.

Of course, deleting half the life in the universe is going to accomplish even less. For example, bacterial growth follows an exponential curve, so every generation is approximately 10x larger than the last. What that looks like is everything seems okay until the latest generation, where the population has suddenly bloated up enough to be a problem. The crash definitely comes in the following generation.

So if Thanos wanted to fix this problem in the universe for one generation, he should've wiped out 90% of the life. But then for one goddamn generation, 20-30 years, what's the point?

If you have a magical reality-control device like the Infinity Guantlet, rewrite the universe more like "organisms will reproduce until they begin to reach the limit of their resources, and then they will naturally reproduce only enough to maintain a stable population."

But no, Thanos wasn't really interested in solving a problem -- he just wanted to kill a lot of people.

Thanos was a b***h of the sunk cost fallacy. He didn't want to quit because he had invested everything in his plan, and changing course would mean that everything he invested in the plan was for nothing. He just didn't want to be wrong. Again, look at what happened when his past self learned that his grand victory would go completely unappreciated. Look at how offended Thanos was that everyone wasn't grateful.

So you know that Thanos might have known about the celestials would end up start booming out of the planets if he did double everything.

Eternals covered the issues about the celestials so I would imagine he know doubling everything would either destroy planets every where or stagnate the evolution of life by giving an easy give.

      There's no 'perfect'
You have the infinity gems, it's up to you to define it.

Yes, he thinks he's right and everyone else is wrong and he wants to kill trillions. He's unwilling to listen to alternative viewpoints, and is morally okay with his decision. Thusly, a psychopath.

Populations inevitably grow and that's a fundamental aspect of reality, which is why he realizes he was wrong all along and wants to rebuild the universe from scratch. Except he didn't need to do any of it to begin with and could have simply philosophized with the greatest minds of the galaxy to, again, eliminate suffering caused by overpopulation to begin with.

    >w-well doubling the resources would case problems in the long run
    >take up space ect
While ignoring the fact that the infinity stones can do literally anything in terms of reality warping. If Thanos' intentions were truly benevolent, instead of killing half of all life, leading to the fricking cataclysmic societal depopulation and hysteria from that choice, he would've doubled the resources or made people more resilient or require less sustenance to maintain their populations. There are at least 5 things he could've done that would've saved the population of every species that did not involve mass depopulation, and literally anything would be better than that.
