Why didn't John Ham become a big star?

He has the face, height and the frame to be a megastar. Like if Gerard Butler could act and had a non-moronic accent.

he refused roles because he didn't want to be typecast as don draper, the roles dried up because he wasn't taking as many roles as he needed to.

now hes just typecast as dick cop or dick sargeant

      Anonymous

He always wanted to be a comedy guy rather and he was terrified about being typecast as Don. Look at the roles he takes, he mainly picks comedy ones. The problem is that the only joke about them is that Don Draper is way too handsome and cool to act like a beta in front of the Progressive roastie. So he's still basically being talked about as Don.

If you're gonna be typecast why not accept being typecast as the troubled handsome chad? If he didn't want to always play the tall rich square chinned dude he shouldn't look like how he does.

        Anonymous

He just wants to do roles he finds fun. Not everyone wants to be a leading man, and that's clear with him. You could go over his career, he started really fricking late so he's just happy that he's successful enough to pick what he wants instead of doing things for his career. I think he's smart enough to know that he has a second life a couple of years from now where he can be cast never to a younger guy and play the chad mentor.

        >If you're gonna be typecast why not accept being typecast as the troubled handsome chad?
He said something about he didn't feel like he could resonate with young audiences given his age. He comes off as apathetic about his film pursuits which is bizarre given how he looks. It wasn't just public perception. Don Draper is a good looking successful man and portraying a character like that can do dividends for your career but all the homie was getting was Don Draper-clone scripts so his answer was to go wildly in the opposite direction. Which again is bizarre given how far he could go.

        Anonymous

He said in an interview once that playing Don Draper was depressing - this stoic, humourless, dark character - so I don't blame him for turning his back on it if it just wasn't his thing.

They didn't lean enough into the LE TORMENTED KURT COBAIN ARTIST aspect, probably because of studio mandates. Shit like him smoking cigarettes as stress relief or something Robert mentioned but we never saw like him working out in total blackness when injured. In the real film he's a steely autist at most

      >he was interested
I really don't think he was. Hamm would NEVER put in the time at the gym to get the kind of physique men expect of Batman. He's just a physically active older man and I can't blame him for not having the drive to do the utmost and change his entire lifestyle around while signing his life away for multiple films in the event it's a success. He'd be stuck and then he really couldn't do what he wanted. Dude saw the kind of success being in comic book superhero movies breed. I mean look at Chris Hemsworth. If he doesn't have a cape around his shoulders then the films he's cast in flop over and over and over again. Black person is stuck as Thor whether he accepts it or not.
