Why didn't Qui Gon just exchange his Republic Credits for whatever cash Watto wanted?
There's no currency exchange in Tatooine?
Why didn't Qui Gon just exchange his Republic Credits for whatever cash Watto wanted?
There's no currency exchange in Tatooine?
God I hate them I mean him
It's weird how over 70% of the Tatooine government was Toydarian, but they're only 2% of the population.
I think you've had a little too much to think.
And why does President Jabba send so much of Tatooine citizen's taxpayers money to Toydaria every year?
Toydaria is a valuable ally in the fight against… something… wait, who were the bad guys in the prequels again?
After the 6 million dead Toydarians from getting thrown into sarlacc pits and fully disintegrated by mandalorians and being struck with hyperdrives by the republic it seems only fair to give them that sandy shithole despite the protests of the currently existing tattoine life forms. Also slavery is okay here but nowhere else.
And why does every Holo-advert on Tatooine show a moisture farmer woman with a Tusken Raider man?
All those ads about helping save the Tusken raiders from slavery yet they ignore the fact that Tusken Raiders were themselves slavers and sold the majority of slaves to the Toydarians. Then we actually see a real Tattoine slave and he's a little blonde boy. Lucas I apologize.
Tusken Raiders are a proud nomadic people they don't want to be a round m*isture farmers.
Then why did they kidnap Anakin’s mom?
Anakins mom was sold to Tuskegee raiders by her own people.
totally socioeconomic factors
Why didn't he just cut Watto in half and take what he wanted?
>BECAUSE MUH JEDI CODE!
But pulling mind tricks on him and controlling the dice isn't part of your jedi code?
details details
why didnt he just pull some eminent domain glowBlack person shit and just take everything he wanted? jedi are like rulers of the galaxy according to the moronic prequels
They're god fearing people. At least they're supposed to.
Quigon is basically an orthodox jedi in a modern church that has lost its true values in the quest for political power. He is a die hard true believer and wouldn't kill an innocent.
His methods instead are intimidation, half truth, white lies, subterfuge, small time cheating etc. that's his game, that's what he's good at.
It would be entirely out of character for him to slice someone in half to get what he desires
>kill an innocent.
my post is specifically pointing out that he doesnt need to kill anyone. the post im responding to said to kill him but he obviously doesnt need to. what is anyone going to do about it? at worst the legality of it will be greyish. imagine some peasant farming telling an NKVD agent to frick off when hes in a bind and trying to save some high ranking politician
He's got no jurisdiction there.
The implication being that the status yoda has in the OT is preferable to political power, endless wealth and tall central church vatican, as it should.
They have ultimately lost the plot. The jedi order in episode 1 aren't Anakin's friends. They are constantly trying to undermine quigon's work.
>jedi are like rulers of the galaxy according to the moronic prequels
imagine how kino it would've been if they were all wanderers with no central base. they'd have holy sites and temples and shit, but no "Jedi Vatican"
>jedi are like rulers of the galaxy according to the moronic prequels
That's not even remotely how they're depicted
the girl's stressed, worried look in this meme hits way too close to home.........
Watto probably was running a currency exchange scam on the side. That's an old trick, not taking widely used currency from someone in a pinch and insisting to exchange the currency, which is almost always at unfavorable exchange rates.
So? Qui Gon presumably has shit tons of money given to him by the government because he's an ambassador.
Try paying euros in the Somalian outback and you'll see for yourself
Also the implication being that tattooine is so remote credits aren't freely convertible (fiat money)
This is likely due to hutts being ancap drug lords and not wanting anything to do with republican monetary policy
>>Try paying euros in the Somalian outback and you'll see for yourself
Guarantee those somali Black folk will take your euros. They might not give you anything in return though.
Yeah that's fair
Watto is a fairly honorable vendor tho, all things considered.
He just wants hard currency that doesn't rape him in the exchange. That's the long and short of it.
Was it pride that made it so quigon didn't want to exchange the money himself and rather sought to beat Watto at his own game? Possibly and probably this.
He also saw an opportunity to win anakin by making him compete in a death dare race and he took it. The ship was almost secondary at that point
>He also saw an opportunity to win anakin by making him compete in a death dare race and he took it. The ship was almost secondary at that point
Lets be honest, in that moment Quigon cared nothing for saving the princess or the kid, he just wanted to see a death race. Who can blame him?
Yeah but also if the kid wins he's got some motherfricking stones on him and should be a jedi immediately, and it also fricks over the alien who made a fool out of him
Win win
Unironically the money changers Jesus was whipping
oh, they should've put that in the movie.
instead we get Jar Jar stepping in the poopie
George had to hold back.
that seems pretty israeli
If he's told by Watto that republic credits are worthless here, and then proceeds to exchange it, surprise the exchange rate will show the planet doesnt care about the credits and he will get like nothing back in local currency. If they actually had value on the planet, Watto would've looked at it greedily and then proceeded to lie out his ass but even that didn't happen so its the truth
>Euros are worthless in America so the exchange rate will show the country doesn't care about the euro and he will get like nothing back in dollars.
You are a moron.
You exchange republic credits in Hutt space for peggat because credits hold no value in Hutt space but peggat does.
someone in Hutt space exchanges peggat for republic credits because they are heading into republic space and peggat holds no value there, but credits do.
The Hutts would definitely have a currency exchange in a commerce center like Mos Espa, which is a little under 200 miles away from Mos Eisley, where Qui-gon landed.
There would probably be a currency exchange in Mos Eisley.
Qui-gon was a moron, like you.
no, he's completely right and you've never been outside of your town.
currencies on earth have different rates according to their value in the locals economy.
stop being an opinionated cretin and no one will notice how fricking stupid you really are
Man reminds me of SWTOR playing as an agent of the Empire, serving some batshit crazy Sith, questing for the Hutts. Shit was immersive as hell.
isn't russia stuck with a ton of rupees because of brics and dropping trade in the dollar?
Why didn't Anakin kill Watto?
Watto would've cursed his finances so he'd spend the rest of his life penniless
Anakin spent the rest of his life as a warrior monk that served the state. he had no pay and his only real possession was his lightsaber. heck, even his wife had to provide the clothes on his back. if she hadn't he would have been wearing state issued brown robes or state issued jedi combat armor.
He did.
Who the hell wouldn't accept the currency of the galactic government that was 25,000 years old? republic credits would be so universal the idea of any other currency would be asinine
I wonder if galactic credits have some sort of tracking feature that make them less desirable for criminal enterprises.
One thing I do know is that Imperial credits are supposed to be precious metals backed. Not sure about the republic credits.
Beskar was the most valuable hence we see it in the Mandalorian in ingot form with the Empire’s stamp.
Gold credits like we see in the Andor heist were worth 1000 and a beskar credit of the same size was worth 10000.
I think silver was 100 and copper was 1 or 10.
Why didn't the sand people kidnap Aunt Beru and make her their rape slave?
if this was supposed to be stormtroopers, why did they fricking melt their corpses into bloody bones?
Because they could.
Fan theory is that it was Boba Fett, hence the "no disintegrations" line in the next movie. Also Boba was on the planet at the time
>skeletons.jpg
now that the dust has settled, who was in the wrong here?
The skeletons for resisting arrest.
Why didn't he just hold Watto down, tear off his little fly wings, then start breaking his fingers until he unlocked Anakin and his mom's collars, then curb stomp his skull in?
because its a children movie for children , by children.
>children movie
explain the cartel gore
Lucas had this weird directional change where during the pequels he openly stated Star Wars was for kids, even if that wasn't the case in the original.
Action Figures need selling, you see.
Lucas got flak for the wild tonal shift in the franchise, and as a coping mechanism began claiming that it wasn't a shift at all.
Correct. And it was always stupid, Star Wars was the biggest action figure selling juggernaut the world had ever seen back when it was limbs getting hacked off, Leia in a bikini, and Luke getting tortured to death by the Emperor, I don't know what Jar Jar brought to the table.
What the frick did they get hit with to turn them into peeled skeletons?
Their weapons had disintegration mode, but George toned it down and didn't have them use it again. Even having Vader tell Boba Fett not to use it
blasted with piss
Because he's not a hero like Palpatine.
not the jedi way
He's a grey Jedi now like Dookie
Or just make him do manual labour for a few hours? Apparently they don't like that at all.
That's a crime. Quigon never did anything illegal. The most you can get him for is racketeering, which is a misdemeanor charge on tattooine anyway
Why would anyone have a pod that's not specifically designed to kill other pods? These dudes know that other pods are gonna try to kill them, and there's almost no rules, so why not have some close combat weapons to blast their engines or even some damn shields?
There’s probably a weight to thrust ratio at play. Any extra weight would slow them down.
Warwick Davis was in The Phantom Menace? Holy shit
I think that's him in the little greedo costume as well. I may be remembering wrong.
I just now noticed.
The controls for Anakin's pod racer are similar to Vader's chest plate.
how many of these callbacks that no one noticed do you think there were
I didn't know Warwick Davis had a small role in phantom menace.
he's been in a lot of star wars
He literally had his own Star Wars movie after Return of the Jedi, it just didn't go anywhere.
>midge
lmfao
Or he could have bought an entire new starship to get them off the planet.
And he could have used Jedi mind tricks on someone other than Watto.
What is the point of having human slaves when droids are available?
droids aren't good at sex
Watto thinks Shmi is ugly and probably does not use her as a sex slave.
Watto prostitutes her out. How do you think she got pregnant, "the Force did it"? lmao
most unbelievable part of star wars
The original plan according to Lucas was that Palpatine used the Sith powers he teased Anakin with in order to manifest Shmi’s pregnancy.
But Lucas never set that idea in stone and left it as a mystery.
>go to slave market in Libya
>"Sorry, we don't take American dollars"
this would never happen
>trading with some underground scumbag in Somalia and he tells you "we don't take US dollars here, they're worthless"
nonsense.
>this is where a slave lived during the Republic
this is what they took from you
i wonder how much of these is artistic liberty. were some sets fully laid out like that? sure. but if you know anything about set design, if you aren't doing some sort of tracking shot through the whole dwelling, they're most likely all detached on their own soundstage
most of those ones were small enough to be shown on screen, but there's plenty of the drawings that definitely filled in the gaps
>HOUSING IN UNAFFORD--ACK!!!
slaves my ass
>tfw no cosy hidey hole
I hate autistic nerds so much. Who the frick asked for a full diagram of Anakin's house? It's just a cool space hut. That's all. Not everything needs a wikipedia page you gays.
Its for kids, usually.
When i was a youngin, i had a book full of star wars cutaway drawings like that. I barely even watched star wars, i just liked the pretty pictures.
wtf SHMEE sleeps in a closet and anakin takes the master bedroom
She knows who's the man of the house and who's bringing home the money to keep Watto happy
Shmee's room has a door to the outside for easy client access.
It's either that or he's gonna leave his Legos and robot shit all over the house.
>$700p/w
why didn't qui-gon just contact the jedi temple directly, as obi-wan does in ep2, and ask for a pickup? failing that, instead of trying to buy an obscure and expensive single ship part, why not spend the money on a cheap but functional whole ship? or why not just take a commercial transport, like anakin and padme do in ep2, which would be far more economical? failing that, why not just pay a privateer to transport them, like luke and ben do in anh? failing that, why not just commandeer a transport and reimburse the owner later?
the answer to all these questions and more is george didn't think things through and wrote a dumb screenplay.
Seriously though why didn't Obi Wan or the Queen of Naboo or Palpatine go back and free Anakin's mother after he saved the planet? Why didn't Anakin even free her at some point? Even if he was meant to let go of attachments someone could of at least freed her and bought her her own house. It wouldn't even of changed the plot at all if she was freed first and then married that fat one legged slob as a free woman instead of him freeing her.
There were attempts but Palpatine blocked them.
Basically, Palpatine always made sure there was a higher priority for the Jedi order than going back to tatooine.
Anakin not knowing if his mother is safe or dead was a great source of anxiety for him and threw him off balance, ultimately leading to his path down the dark side killing the sand Black folk, I mean tusken raiders.
Surely Padme would have told him Palpatine was blocking the efforts
>Anakin not knowing if his mother is safe or dead was a great source of anxiety for him
So why didn't he go back and free her himself or at least ask someone to. If he asked someone surely they'd say yeah but Palpatine blocked it and he'd know
>Surely Padme
Palpatine was a master of manipulating the senate and the jedi council. No one knew he was blocking their efforts.
>So why didn't he go back and free her himself
because he would have broken his mandate. The whole reason he left to become a jedi was for his mother's sake.
He did leave the order at one point but he returned because his mother would have wanted him to become a jedi.
tldr: palpatine through shadow manipulation always had Anakin out on assignment and always directed jedi efforts away from freeing slaves. he hid these efforts from the senate.
if anakin ignored these assignments, he would be kicked out of the order which is something his mother would not have wanted.
Checked. Or even Jar Jar and all of the Gungans. Literally all of Naboo owed Anakin big time, and it wouldn't cost that much to fly there and buy her freedom. Also, it's could have* and wouldn't even have*
Maybe some kind of transaction tracking? He probably doesn't want to deal with the space IRS.
If there's tracking, exchange for untracked currency is probably restricted, and a backwater planet like Tatooine probably doesn't have access to money laundering in a legitimate star system or they would just do business there.
Or maybe they don't have the computer infrastructure to deal with the currency.
Or maybe the Hutts will kill them if they don't use their special Hutt currency.
nump
I watch Mr Plunkett reviews before sleep almost daily, Mike voice feels like a blanket and I get used to it
dude was rich af
he should've employed some local guards for protection
Shmee wasn't listed in the flight plan. It's pretty simple.
>skywalker
>starkiller
>darklighter
BRAVO GEORGE, BRAVO
>There's no currency exchange in Tatooine?
stop trying to make a galaxy far far away just like ours moron
>Lazy, big-lipped, unhygienic, gangsters who only speak unintelligible gibberish and breed naturally violent animals to keep as pets
But enough about high school football.
how did you get high school football out of his post? i'm curious
Right there in the name. Republic CREDITS aren't money, they're credit backed by nothing other than the good faith that the Republic will continue to become economically stronger. Obviously this wasn't the case because the rot had set in long before Sheev took office and the Republic was losing influence, especially in the Outer Rim.
Watto wants the kind of hard cash that Hutts deal in. Currency that's actual money formed of a precious substance that has intrinsic value, not just a base metal representing a hypothetical value as a measure of generated labor within the Republic economy.
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Credit
>After the formation of the Galactic Empire, Galactic Republic credits were phased out within days, with Imperial citizens induced to register for identifying chain codes in order to exchange their now-worthless currency for Imperial credits.[15] Eventually, credits from the time of the Republic became mostly worthless.[16] Credits from the Galactic Empire likewise became worthless following the rise of the New Republic, to the point that Grand Admiral Rae Sloane was forced to pay the bounty hunter Mercurial Swift "in owed favors."[17] The New Republic also issued credits, but their value became volatile in 34 ABY following the Hosnian Cataclysm. Consequently, the city of Canto Bight prohibited New Republic credits and required all visitors to exchange their credits for currency made of aurodium.[18]
Hutt money can't become worthless simply because a governing body declares it so, because Hutt money is sound money, not fiat currency.
I find it funny that Aurodium is just Star Wars’ word for gold.
It’s also funny to me that the Empire’s money was more sound than either Republic’s.
i want to have sex with Darth plagueis
i want to have sex with Darth plagueis
i want to have sex with Darth plagueis
It's a Boonta Eve miracle! The force bless us, each and every one.
Why the frick is it taking the Republic so long to expand into the Outer Rim? Why didn't they return like two weeks later and buy Shmi? Are Jedi even paid, or are they just space janitors?
