After the 6 million dead Toydarians from getting thrown into sarlacc pits and fully disintegrated by mandalorians and being struck with hyperdrives by the republic it seems only fair to give them that sandy shithole despite the protests of the currently existing tattoine life forms. They're god fearing people. At least they're supposed to.

Quigon is basically an orthodox jedi in a modern church that has lost its true values in the quest for political power. He is a die hard true believer and wouldn't kill an innocent.

His methods instead are intimidation, half truth, white lies, subterfuge, small time cheating etc. that's his game, that's what he's good at.
It would be entirely out of character for him to slice someone in half to get what he desires

The implication being that the status yoda has in the OT is preferable to political power, endless wealth and tall central church vatican, as it should.

They have ultimately lost the plot. The jedi order in episode 1 aren't Anakin's friends. They are constantly trying to undermine quigon's work.

Watto is a fairly honorable vendor tho, all things considered.
He just wants hard currency that doesn't rape him in the exchange. That's the long and short of it.

Was it pride that made it so quigon didn't want to exchange the money himself and rather sought to beat Watto at his own game? Possibly and probably this.

He also saw an opportunity to win anakin by making him compete in a death dare race and he took it. The ship was almost secondary at that point

One thing I do know is that Imperial credits are supposed to be precious metals backed. Not sure about the republic credits.
Beskar was the most valuable hence we see it in the Mandalorian in ingot form with the Empire’s stamp.

Gold credits like we see in the Andor heist were worth 1000 and a beskar credit of the same size was worth 10000.

I think silver was 100 and copper was 1 or 10.

why didn't qui-gon just contact the jedi temple directly, as obi-wan does in ep2, and ask for a pickup? failing that, instead of trying to buy an obscure and expensive single ship part, why not spend the money on a cheap but functional whole ship? or why not just take a commercial transport, like anakin and padme do in ep2, which would be far more economical? failing that, why not just pay a privateer to transport them, like luke and ben do in anh? failing that, why not just commandeer a transport and reimburse the owner later?

the answer to all these questions and more is george didn't think things through and wrote a dumb screenplay.

  17. 8 months ago

Seriously though why didn't Obi Wan or the Queen of Naboo or Palpatine go back and free Anakin's mother after he saved the planet? Why didn't Anakin even free her at some point? Even if he was meant to let go of attachments someone could of at least freed her and bought her her own house. It wouldn't even of changed the plot at all if she was freed first and then married that fat one legged slob as a free woman instead of him freeing her.

      Anonymous

There were attempts but Palpatine blocked them.
Basically, Palpatine always made sure there was a higher priority for the Jedi order than going back to tatooine.
Anakin not knowing if his mother is safe or dead was a great source of anxiety for him and threw him off balance, ultimately leading to his path down the dark side killing the sand Black folk, I mean tusken raiders.

Surely Padme would have told him Palpatine was blocking the efforts
        >Anakin not knowing if his mother is safe or dead was a great source of anxiety for him
So why didn't he go back and free her himself or at least ask someone to. If he asked someone surely they'd say yeah but Palpatine blocked it and he'd know

Palpatine was a master of manipulating the senate and the jedi council. No one knew he was blocking their efforts.
          >So why didn't he go back and free her himself
because he would have broken his mandate. The whole reason he left to become a jedi was for his mother's sake.
He did leave the order at one point but he returned because his mother would have wanted him to become a jedi.
tldr: palpatine through shadow manipulation always had Anakin out on assignment and always directed jedi efforts away from freeing slaves. he hid these efforts from the senate.
if anakin ignored these assignments, he would be kicked out of the order which is something his mother would not have wanted.

Maybe some kind of transaction tracking? He probably doesn't want to deal with the space IRS.
If there's tracking, exchange for untracked currency is probably restricted, and a backwater planet like Tatooine probably doesn't have access to money laundering in a legitimate star system or they would just do business there.
Or maybe they don't have the computer infrastructure to deal with the currency.
Or maybe the Hutts will kill them if they don't use their special Hutt currency.

Shmee wasn't listed in the flight plan. It's pretty simple.

Right there in the name. Republic CREDITS aren't money, they're credit backed by nothing other than the good faith that the Republic will continue to become economically stronger. Obviously this wasn't the case because the rot had set in long before Sheev took office and the Republic was losing influence, especially in the Outer Rim.

Watto wants the kind of hard cash that Hutts deal in. Currency that's actual money formed of a precious substance that has intrinsic value, not just a base metal representing a hypothetical value as a measure of generated labor within the Republic economy.

    https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Credit

    >After the formation of the Galactic Empire, Galactic Republic credits were phased out within days, with Imperial citizens induced to register for identifying chain codes in order to exchange their now-worthless currency for Imperial credits.[15] Eventually, credits from the time of the Republic became mostly worthless.[16] Credits from the Galactic Empire likewise became worthless following the rise of the New Republic, to the point that Grand Admiral Rae Sloane was forced to pay the bounty hunter Mercurial Swift "in owed favors."[17] The New Republic also issued credits, but their value became volatile in 34 ABY following the Hosnian Cataclysm. Consequently, the city of Canto Bight prohibited New Republic credits and required all visitors to exchange their credits for currency made of aurodium.[18]

Hutt money can't become worthless simply because a governing body declares it so, because Hutt money is sound money, not fiat currency.

I find it funny that Aurodium is just Star Wars’ word for gold.

It’s also funny to me that the Empire’s money was more sound than either Republic’s.

Why the frick is it taking the Republic so long to expand into the Outer Rim? Why didn't they return like two weeks later and buy Shmi? Are Jedi even paid, or are they just space janitors?
