Why do adults hate cartoons?

I remember a few years ago, they said we were going to watch Spider-Man in the hospital as a reward for patients. As soon as it was shown to be the "cartoon Spider-Man", almost everyone left.

I don't think it's because they're super based Cinemaphilemic book guys because they would have watched the Raimiverse no prob. Or the Andrew Garfield movies.

Then again, some old black dudes insisted on watching Soul Christmastime 2020, so maybe it's not all hope lost.

The western world still largely buys into the Disney lie that animation is for children and would rather see the same graying actors mugging at a camera because they can "relate" better to a real person

Someone somewhere decided that cartoons are medium for children. Imagine if films, plays and books were viewed like that too.

Sad shit that there will never be an Akira-equivalent in American animation.

That being a large budget movie aimed at the general audience, but animated and not for children.

Akira saved the animation industry in Japan.

It’s called Fantasia, it’s better then Akira and initially bombed because your “god emperor” hitler decided to start a war

well Akira's box office performance in Japan is a bit of a black box. Seems to have made most of its money from video sales.

And Fantasia is not a movie "not for children". Children can still watch it. It has freaking Mickey Mouse in it.

Sure, might get a little boring, though. For kids.

they only do in America, where the only animation made for adults is lowest common dominator shit. in countries like France and Japan where they actually make quality cartoons for adults, the medium is much more respected and appreciated

IDK isn't French animation dominated by Asterix? Or it used to be anyways.

I don't know. I mean the people on imdb like Spider-Verse. No evidence that the movie isn't well received by the general audience, outside of being a cartoon.

Silly. Made almost $190m US+Canada. Don't be like an MCU neanderthal and think that it has to make a billion to be successful.

Budgets don't really factor into a movie's final performance, Joker cost only $70M and cleared a billion easy, not like ITSV suffered visually due to its budget, it won't an academy award for its animation.

Animators on a budget do this sort of thing in collabs and animation jams. corporate system is so inefficient, I think they do it that way to launder money.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Like yeah old people are adults too. And the only people I was talking about who were around the age of 60 were the guys who wanted to watch Pixar's Soul

These elderly people were born in a different time when they didn't have a choice like we do today. So what are you complaining about anyway?

No I just told them about the cluster frick of a production or went through and pointed to the 5 directors and 7 screen writers. Don’t pretend that spiderverse is anything other than Sony getting a “third times the charm” aspect of finally getting a spider-man movie with a bloated forced in cast that are ONLY there in a vain attempt for sequels and spin offs to come off charming and not just shit. And 90% of the appeal of the movie were the visuals the story was riddled with plot holes and wrapped up with a pessimistic moral about “anyone can wear the mask”

I think mind game is overrated. but I can't imagine Sony greenlighting a Mind Game or Paprika Spider-Man movie. for that the film would have to have a director without any restrictions.

A vicious cycle of people saying cartoons are only for children, believing it, not watching them, and the industry specifically pandering to this because they only do what sells.
