It's a perfectly serviceable action/conspiracy thriller. Also blatant neo-con propaganda, but that's to be expected since there are US military dollars behind its production. At one point Pratt's character, discussing civilians who are skeptical of the SEAL mission, says something like: "all they need to do is pay their taxes and stay out of our way", which kinda sums up the whole show.

It's not super good (Pratt is wholly wooden, the plot is obvious enough that you should be able to figure out all of the twists by the midpoint of the second episode, and everything to do with the reporter and the SecDef in the last two episodes drove me up the wall) but it's also not bad in a remarkable or noteworthy way. I wont ever watch it again, but it also wasn't really a waste of time. At the end of the day I did get to see Chris Pratt use a shaped charge on a business bro.

FOIA - freedom of information act form, to retrieve gov't records which they have to comply with by law, costs $25 and anyone can get one because that's what they're for (One of the reasons Hillary deleting her emails was a big deal - it was illegal for her to destroy gov't records)

QRT - Quick Reaction Team, on standby at all times so they can be deployed quickly. This was developed to counter guerilla style warfare like hitting a target and running away before the goodguys show up

They seem very hit or miss but their hits are much better than Netflix. Loved Reacher and Terminal List.

Homecoming is another great conspiracy thriller (more psychological), and it basically has the same plot as Terminal List, minus operator revenge. From the Mr. Robot team.
Too Old to Die Young is pure kino, may alienate some but it's Refn without filters
                Patriot
                ZeroZeroZero
Jack Ryan is iffy quality wise, mediocre showrunners, but it scratches the itch and I have hope S3 will be better

People will dismiss Reacher and Terminal as schlock but I disagree, they're very well produced with solid showrunners, it's what they lacked when they launched Ryan and they clearly improved rapidly (whereas Netflix still doesn't care or understand about the importance of good producers and showrunners).

What's exciting with Terminal is they went from having an underwhelming half-miss (Ryan, which they bet big on but disappointed everyone) and an unexpected hit (Reacher, which everyone expected to be shittier), to two hits in a row, so now the Amazon operator/dadcore brand carries a good level of confidence, and I'm sure numbers will demonstrate there's a huge hunger for this type of content done well.

Amazon and Netflix don't produce shit. They hire outside companies to do all of the work and then slap their logo on it. Weinstein company did House of Cards.

Bezos bought MGM. They're basically running United Artists now. They're taking their in-house production division seriously and hiring the right talent.
Netflix started outsourcing or hiring whoever with zero oversight because they have the issue of having to create OC to flood their platform rapidly as studios started pulling their stuff; they took the quantity over quality approach. They wouldn't even do something like HoC today.

GK is one my favorite shows and I understand all the lingo, I don't mind looking some terms up but the difference is in GK it's an actual language you have to decrypt, it's well done and immersive, but here it's mostly inconsequential, just to add some verisimilitude flavor to otherwise generic dialogues

AS FAR AS CRITICS go, remember when Gene Siskel used to always criticize stuff for being like "needlessly violent/dark"... this reminded me of that.... personally i think it's operator kino and while the story meanders the leads are good and it's better than most of the shit streaming currently

you are trying to be sarcastic while saying the exact truth, which doesn't make sense

yeah the revenge plot was stupid - the show is essentially a longer, worse-written version of taken
        >contrived
i know you don't know what this word means, but no the revenge plot isn't contrived - it's poorly written
ignoring the first two episodes (the writers clearly did), reece only mentions his squad twice again during the rest of the series - once to manipulate riley into helping him by bringing up her rescue, and once to guilt the captain when he says "i have a family" while begging for his life. he also has two hallucinations about his squad - one at the end of episode 7, reliving the tunnels attack (this barely counts, since this was just *his* experience when the trip mine hit him), and right before he jumped off the boat in the last episode. after his wife and child died, he forget about the mission and his squad almost entirely - which means that once navaros died, the revenge plot died too.
if the writing was any good, we would have been shown reece's connection to his squad and the pain of their loss/betrayal. but the writers, and reece by extension, literally forget about the squad until the very end of the show - it is just taken but 7 hours long and the bad guy dies 4 hours in.

          >taken
You obviously saw a better version than I did. A guy with special set of skills is all I'm getting out of this.
          >ignoring the first two (the writers clearly did)
Ok now I'm being trolled for sure. You mean the entirely in first person setup of the 1st episode was unimportant? 2 is where the ball got rolling because when the Fed said a name it made the 'lol you're crazy' narrative disappear (which I and some other anons liked if you read these threads). I'm not seeing how you think they were unimportant.
          >mentions his squad twice
As a writer for the show, I think you'd be on the verge of conflating the deaths. His wife and daughter getting killed was more important and you don't want to jumble it up. If we'd spent more time inside the zone of events during 1, before that one thing happens, it would be used more. I would absolutely have loved more flashbacks of his buddies but lacking that doesn't hurt the show. Also, there's only so much time to be dished out, and like I said, it might be more detrimental to have less family pain than brother pain. His brothers would understand.

...are you talking about Taken 3 where some dying happened?

I mean inside the area of events before the wife and daughter get killed, the brothers' deaths would've been used more. And it could've helped to have a friendly face show up sometimes to "remind him" of something he was thinking of or make him laugh out loud in front of irl people at a joke.

      >Ben gets killed in Hartley's estate. Takes Katie hostage and wraps detcord around her neck. Ben threatens to off her and Reese says he doesn't give a frick.

      >>So frickin pissed they cut this:
Reese doesn't get attacked by a random Jack Carr merc when he meets Katie the first time in LA. In the book it's a random jihadi who's linked to a "peaceful" Muslim cleric. Reese finds out, goes to the mosque, beheads the cleric and plants his head on a spike of the gates to the mosque.

      >Mexico:
      >Reese takes down the sicarios solo. Instead of hitting them with Ben and Marco's guy, he goes in at night with NVGs and caps most of the sicarios while they sleep. Comes across two guys spit roasting some prostitute. Kills the one fricking her from behind first, showers the prostitute in blood. Guy getting sucked off doesn't notice until it's too late. Eventually shit gets loud and has to shoot his way out. I think Marco's guys arrive and help him exfill but I can't remember.

      >Also, the way he drops the main sicario here, is actually how he kills another guy in Florida. Kidnaps him and takes him out to the Everglades. Guts him and pins his intestines to a tree. Leaves him for dead with gators massing nearby.

      >There's other little shit but that's the stuff that jumps out the most. If you liked the show, check out the books. They're thin on plot but packed with detailed brutal and gory kills.

Started watching this afterwards, extremely cliche take on the conspiracy/fugitive CIA thriller and visibly low budget but oddly decent for something that got zero marketing. Main actor is weak but supporting cast is solid. Not sure how I feel about the writing/directing, there's something about it that's too clean and sanitized, young, upbeat and brightly lit, characters all have these millennial snappy sarcastic dialogues, almost like if it were a CW take on 70's paranoia, but like it's done on purpose to lull you into a false sense of comfort and relatability, so it can then pull the rug under your feet as the character realizes everything around him is a well constructed lie hiding ugly secrets. It's either very watered down or very clever.

You know how you'll watch a TV show where people point guns at each other all the time, and you'll find yourself saying "Do it. Do it. Do it. Just pull the fricking trigger, you moron. Just fricking do it." at the screen, but then the character doesn't do it, and then the guy they could've easily killed gets away and the plot drags out for another 9 episodes instead of being resolved in 3?
Well, in this show he does Do It. Every time you're thinking to yourself "in this situation, if I were him, I would..." he does that thing.

Downside to that is, it takes a lot of the dramatic tension away. Like, he takes out one of the antagonists in exactly the way you'd want him to. But then the show goes on for like another 2-3 episodes where a bunch of stuff happens that almost could've taken place off-screen with how little tension there was to it.

You wouldn't even know about the overbearing incestual relationships with their mothers without Larry, South Park only did it after Larry.

Eh, had a israeli friend growing up and his mother forbid him from hanging out with me because I told him that constipation meant skin would grow over your ass so you couldn't poop. 7 years later I had my wiener in his moms pussy and her guiding me into jer dirty butthole while I stared at her eagle shoulder tattoo.

Nah, I think it's writing smart.

      Female.
      Female Cabinet member.
      Female noncom.

Not that he wouldn't because he was definitely gonna. But there are lines that are hard to come back from when you're supposed to be the hero. The suicide was a nice wiggle since it freed him from having to carry that shit under the eyes of people who knew he was the goodguy up until killing her. Her emotional exchange with the reporter previously, thanks to some good acting, showed us that she was trying to stay out of reach of her guilt in her own mind and the reporter was making her face it. The stress of the situation and thinking she was going to die anyway and she decided to prove how sorry she was by doing it herself.

Being extremely convenient doesn't make it a copout.

It's dark, dark brown and turns almost black when wet. Like coffee grounds.
