Why do people hate the idea of Sonic being taken seriously? People don't hate TMNT for it, but they hate Sonic for whatever reason.

Plenty of people hate serious TMNT.
So why was 2k3 liked?
A lot of people think 2k3 took itself too seriously; and even 2k3 was full of goofy humor. Even the big bad of the series, Shredder, was treated with Evil Dead style humor when he was stripped to his brain form and ran around like some sort of killer squid. The ridiculousness of it was completely intentional.
This. 2k3 took itself way too seriously
Anon, my point was it really didn't. At one point they comment on how weird an alien planet is and then an old turtle sensei and his four rat ninjas walk right by them. It still had plenty of corny jokes.
Why does Cinemaphile hate anything dark and mature?
The Last Ronin and 2k3 are overrated. 2k3 turtles are not allowed to kill any villains. Even 2k3 Casey has to save his enemy.
Aka People who are nostalgic for Cowabunga Pizza Turtles.
Both versions suck
The same reason why I use fertilizer on my lawn but wouldn't enjoy a big bowl of it for breakfast. Context matters.
This is why you don't use analogies as a replacement for actual arguments. I have no clue what you're even saying.

Green Hill Zone?
I don't think people hate Sonic being taken seriously, they just hate nuSonic games like Shadow for being dogshit. Several dark storylines in the comics were well received, SATAM is generally the best-regarded of Sonic's shows, and pretty much the only thing anyone remembers about Sonic X is the Metarex business which was quite dark.
There's people that hate those too.
That's true for everything.
>I don't think people hate Sonic being taken seriously, they just hate nuSonic games like Shadow for being dogshit.
/thread.
I hate Sonic being serious in any way when it's blatantly clear that it will amount to NOTHING.
Having that green furry shit complain to Sonic about how he should kill villains but Sonic won't do it because we know Sega's rules and red tape will block it only leads to a sense of unsatisfaction and stagnation in advance because due to having this moment with Surge calling things out? You know how things will roll from this point onward. Especially when it comes to Sega characters like Eggman who is impossible to get rid of.
So again what is the point in thinking you can get witty or serious with the writing when you know Sega will STOP you? It makes serious Sonic seem like aimless meandering worthless shit because it can never pay off. And Flynn is an idiot for even trying to introduce this type of conflict using Surge. By now Flynn should know how Sega thinks, he has like ten years of experience working with Sega. So he's also to blame for the idiocy.

Can we make this a copy pasta for every IDW Sonic thread?
Shadow the Hedgehog is not a comic or cartoon.
Improved
>It's another Rongay thread
Ron fricking sucks
Because it's too ridiculous.
why is a franchise about a talking hedgehog who looks nothing like a hedgehog that fights a maniacal mechanist so gritty and edgy?
TMNT is based on Daredevil
Sonic is based on Felix the Cat
Which do you think is more conducive to a serious story?
This. People who hate Sonic being serious are complete manchildren.
Well for one, Sonic does it badly 90% of the time.
>anthropomorphic animals with giant eyes fighting a mad scientist with the power of friendship
>Giant mutant turtles that fight space triceratops and a martial artist who wears hockey gear and ancient Japanese ninja in the modern day
People just don't like Shadow. He's probably the worst vidya character ever made.
He's the second most popular sonic character ever made.
Among fetuses maybe.
Once you grow a ball sack, you see how juvenile and static the character really is.
At best, he's a very awkward & boring guest star that needed his own posse to make him interesting (and he can't have THAT anymore). At worst, he's fricking Sasuke The Hedgehog, forcing an otherwise light-hearted to become dark and edgy & swallowing all joy & excitement like a black hole of edginess.
It says a lot about the character when the best thing he done in decades was flower arrangement & declaring his love for Kill La Kill

Sonic is shonen. TMNT was originally based on Frank Miller's take on Daredevil, who in turn was inspired by the seinen/gekiga works of Kazuo Koike
>Sonic is shonen.
No. One Piece is Shonen
Chainsaw Man is Shonen
Jujutsu Kaisen is Shonen
Yu Yu Hakusho is Shonen
Sonic is baby shonen like Pokemon, YuGiOh & Bayblade.
IIRC, Sonic would fall under kodomo which literally means for kids
Sonic is Kemono, aka for furries
A big part of it is that Sonic didn't start out with over dramatic storylines and then when things took a sharp turn in that direction in the mid 2000s not everyone was on board. The other is simply execution. That's it. That's all it ever was and will be.
Now take your meds, schizo.

dum dums can't comprehend anything other than humans being serious
This! You morons can't handle anything that doesn't involve humans
TMNT has a story and coherent narrative. People still argue over whether Sonic even has a continuity.
Oh boy, another thread of Industrycuck complaining about Sonic using whataboutisms and false equivalences.
You can't name any of them of course. Btw, comparing and contrasting isn't whataboutism.
Sonic isn't seinen material and never will be.
>Sonic isn't seinen material and never will be.
Then I guess I can give up on Sonic being better than it will ever be
>No Sonic Lupin
>No Sonic City Hunter
>No Sonic Bebop
I rewatched the 1990 TMNT movie and the thing about that is even if they were all human that movie would still work because it's about a blood feud between two families with a theme about how fathers relate to their sons.
I don't know if I can say the same about any piece of Sonic media working if they were all human.
Sonic and the Black Knight is about finding purpose and accepting mortality. It'd work with all humans
You couldn't have picked a worse example given that Sonic and the Black Knight explicitly isekais the main character and replaces the rest of the cast with lookalikes so as to avoid having to make the actual characters get deep.
It literally doesn't matter that the characters are doppelgangers since this is about replacing them all with humans anyway
If the characters have to be dopplegangers then the dopplegangers work as humans but the characters themselves don't.
>Why do people hate the idea of Sonic being taken seriously?
We don't
Sega does
TMNT was born as a violent and edgy comic, then it was turned into a whimsical children show (the same thing that happened to The Mask), while Sonic was born as a character for children entertainment and then, for some reason, someone thought that it was a good idea to reimagine it in a dramatic setting.
The early 2000's was a very edgy time
>TMNT was born as a violent and edgy comic
Not really. It was one issue making silly references to the ooze being the same accident that blinded Matt Murdock. Then it's just a simple Japanese family honor avenging plot with anthropomorphic animals.
>Not really.
Not really.
Sonic is for kids with broken homes. Google "<your real name> The Hedgehog". It's all kids in broken homes trying to forget/escape/overcome.
TMNT is merchandised capeshit, the desire for it to be grimdark is ever-present from a part of the audience.
I dont think the people in charge of making Sonic games can write well or make video games that well.
I don't hate the idea of Sonic being taken seriously, I find it absolutely hysterical.
People don't hate the idea of a serious Sonic plot. People hate how dogshit those plots had been executed so far (Shadow, 06, Forces.) Games like the Adventure duology and Unleashed had heightened stakes and more serious threats and were received quite well. I've never heard people complain about the tone and story of Unleashed anyway. Even Frontiers seems to be going for a more serious plot that isn't so bizarrely out of tone with the series like Forces.
>hate how dogshit those plots had been executed so far (Shadow, 06, Forces.)
I don't understand why people get triggered over Sonic having a human love interest. I thought multiracial relations were a good thing?
>I don't understand why people get triggered over Sonic having a human love interest
It is the Sonic Fandom we are talking about, so, I'm going to make a wild guess and say it is the game shippers who were mostly against it.
In that moment in time, Amy was the only option for a Sonic pairing that has been "teased" (notice quotation marks, please) for years. (And before someone says Blaze, remember this was the game that opened the door for many in the form of Silblaze)
Thus, they weren't happy.
Then, there is the issue that the humans in 06 look too realistic, thus uncanny valley territory and shit.
The whole Amy thing is strange, Sonic hasn't ever shown any affection to her, so it is a completely one-sided thing.
>Sonic hasn't ever shown any affection to her, so it is a completely one-sided thing
Yes, but when has that ever stopped shippers?
Here are a few examples of sign of absolute true love according to the average Sonic Shipper:
>character shows concern over the other
>character teases the other
>character stands next to the other
>characters exist at the same moment in time as another
>characters existed at some point
And remember, there is no such thing as a crackship in this fandom.
Case in point:
For me, it's because she's rendered so realistically. Looks like she's fricking around with a dude in a fursuit. If she looked closer to the humans from Adventure or Unleashed, I wouldn't have minded it as much.
With Sonic 06, it's the design contrast of cartoon character and realistically proportioned Square human. You're basically wanting Kairi to frick Goofy and conceive Max Goof right there.
At least Madonna was an obvious Jessica Rabbit stand-in.
>I've never heard people complain about the tone and story of Unleashed anyway.
The tone? Maybe.
The story? Could've been better.
>Even Frontiers seems to be going for a more serious plot that isn't so bizarrely out of tone with the series like Forces.
>Flynn is localizing
Yeaaahh...not saying I don't believe you but...
Sonic is such a terrible franchise. I'll never not be mad at how so many better mascots and platformers were buried while this piece of shit thrives solely thanks to nostalgic fans and deviantart autists. I literally can only excuse those that like the music.
A serious tone doesn't work with perpetual series like Sonic. Characters dying along the way to a story's conclusion is fine. Sega doesn't let sonic games get split into separate Canon arcs (storybook doesn't count and is coincidentally the only set of games excluding 06 where the villain is outright killed), and they don't let the Sonic comics get written as a fixed, limited narrative with a planned conclusion (spoiled from having Archie meander for 20 years).
Because Sonic is inherently goofy as shit.
All I know is that Rouge is grooming Tails to breed her full of his puppy litter each year until she’s got more Fox DNA sloshing around inside of her than Bat
>Shipping Trolls come ruin a Sonic Thread
It's not like the thread was fantastic, but still...
>come ruin a Sonic Thread
Your thread was shit and its just there to indulge an autistic shitposter
>Your thread was shit
When has a Sonic thread not being shit, exactly?
>an autistic shitposter on Cinemaphile
You'll need to be more specific, mate
the Shadow game wasn't panned just for the tone, but also for how lackluster it is. Dull graphics, uninspired linear stages, tedious and repetitive missions, slippery controls, simplistic shooting, etc
TMNT did it well. Sonic didn't.
reminder that Sonic Team went to shit in the mid 00s because of the Sammy merger in 2004. The Shadow game and 06 are the direct result of that merger
