Liefeld just became a meme that people enjoy perpetuating, forgetting that he was extremely popular back in his day, and that people love finding fault in popular people. But Liefeld never existed in a vacuum, and most superhero comics have shit art. Probably due to the fact that artists are expected to push issues as quickly as possible. But due to the environment even non-cape comics experience these problems. It's kind of like Liefeld became a conduit for all the shit art in American comics, and people just relentlessly shit on him in lieu of addressing the problems that created him in the first place.
The anatomy is terrible though. The pose it's referencing at
Because Lil' Robbie couldn't even "reference" shit properly
is like that because of perspective and positioning. Notice that Ahnold's torso is twisted a tad and he has his left arm gripping his right so he can push his pecs. Liefeld's Cap is just standing straight from a side angle so it looks moronic.
Genuinely Linkara has done more bad than good for comics >popularizing meming on Liefeld's anatomy >pushing the narrative that Frank Miller is a bad writer >focusing so much criticism on small mistakes in writing and art rather than structure, themes or artistic merit >his batman voice >everytime he rants about something in comics it's actually just dead wrong >every linkara meme
It's 1 part memes and misinformation and 1 part the fact that Liefield is actually pretty good at high-performance anatomy [bodybuilders and so on] and even has a strong understanding of the subconscious "test" motions people in that level of condition will do but he has two problems.
1. Perspective. He frequently fricks up and has two or more parts of the same body in the same image be set to slightly different perspectives and it fricks things up.
2. Timing. he tries to give them realism, subconsciously or not, doing those little stretches and subconscious flexes that people who are crazy fit do without thinking to make sure they don't frick up and hurt themselves but always stops them mid-motion in a panel. A stretch, flex, twist, or so on that might be natural to do for a split second looks weird as frick when it's frozen in time forever without an immediately obvious reason to be doing it, which is context most people don't have because how many body builders and gymnasts have you hung around long enough to watch them go about their day to day so often that you've learned their subconscious movements and mannerisms.
I feel like Liefeld would draw characters in halves. It never seemed like one drawing. It looked like the top half would be one perspective and then the bottom half another.
Because the "superstar artists" period was a mess; hugely popular comics that sold loads but fundamentally flawed comics right around the time the whole industry crashed.
its not a comic image. it was promo art for heroes reborn. they signed contracts last minute before con and had him shit out art in like an afternoon to be inked and colored.
I have only seen 1 human being ever with a chest like that and it was some dude with a genetic deformity that made their sternum preteude way out and they also only had 1 nipple right in the center of their chest.
They don’t hate it, they just think it’s dumb and emblematic of all things wrong with Liefeld. In fact the only thing that is missing are tiny diamond feet and 20 superfluous pouches, and maybe a gigantic gun.
They're fine in their own way (except the feet which come across as lazy), but there's a point when it bleeds into everything you do and stops being appropriate.
I don't hate it but is clearly a showcase of having very poor understanding of posing and perspective. We are clearly supposed to be seeing Cap from a pure side view, evidenced by his shoulder being pointed directly at us and no part of his other shoulder being visible, his upper thigh is also evidenceof this, being pointed to the right of the picture with no indication of turning. But with that being the case, we should also only be seeing one of his pectoral muscles and one side of his abs as well, as a full side profile. However he is drawn to have only his torso below the shoulder turning toward the reader, as his abs and pecs are being shown in diagonal angle, halfway between forward facing and a profile. You have to either pic between a profile view and a 75% view OR depict the character moving to achieve the unorthodox pose, because as it is this view of captain America would mean he is for some reason trying to awkwardly shift his torso toward one side while keeping his groin and shoulders squared ahead of him, and thats clearly not what is actually happening in this part of the story. The artist just somehow managed to mix up and Frankenstein together a side profile view from the shoulders up and groin down but then make his chest and abs 75% view. It's obviously just a mistake or poor understanding of what is being depicted.
The extra sad part is that even though extra ab and pectoral muscles are being shown, it actually strikes a much less powerful figure than we would see if it was a full side profile. Someone with good drawing or editing skills could make a version of this pic where you erase the part of Cap's chest that is jutting out past his closer pectoral muscle and we would have the proper profile view. It would make Cap look much stronger in comparison because it would mean he is puffing out his chest confidently instead of awkwardly turning and knowing it's only the sideways view will imply Cap has even more muscle shown in this pic
I never really had that big of a reaction to Liefeld, it takes lot for comic art to make me laugh or like think it's awful, Liefeld work is just whatever to me not a fan but not like hating it.
They'll never have pecs like that.
They were told to
SPBP

What's the point of the shield if he has muscles that big
Just tired of this meme all around. Let it go.
Us old gays amirite??
Because Lil' Robbie couldn't even "reference" shit properly
The problem lies with the position of the neck.
It's too far on the back in the Cap image.
>black Black person
what did arnold mean by that?
All these steroids and he still isnt stronger than a Medieval serf working on a farm.
Yes, that's not the goal, the goal is to look impressive. It's all performative.
I bet you complain about wrestling being staged as welll.
It’s not a hot take to say the actual strongest people on earth don’t look like Zyzz or Arnie anymore.
Cause they watch Linkara. I suspect this is the reference photo.
>Linkara
Probably.
Oh hey look a homosexual who doesn't understand anatomy.
Go to bed, Rob
>The pose makes sense if you position your body in a weird and awkward way
Makes sense
The anatomy is terrible though. The pose it's referencing at

>Frank Miller is a bad writer
Wheres the lie
Right here
>Frank Miller is a bad writer
Coping troony
>linkaragay calling anybody a troony
K E K
>popularizing meming on Liefeld's anatomy
Liefeld's anatomy is pretty mediocre from a technical standpoint tho, can't draw guns for shit either.
everything you said is false or lies
Most people agree that Frank was a good writer until the 00s even before linkara became a thing though so he’s right

Here's a decent breakdown of why OP is a Cinemaphilentrarian dipshit looking for (You)s.
This shit is called "soulful" by casuals who cannot into basic anatomy and are nostalgic for the dumbest time in the history of comic book art
>inb4 "b-b-b-b-but MUH TUMBLR COMICS"
That shit is mildly vexing at best. This shit is just fricking moronic.
Because the "superstar artists" period was a mess; hugely popular comics that sold loads but fundamentally flawed comics right around the time the whole industry crashed.
Because they hate me.
No one actually hates it. People just found it funny. Btw where comic is that image from?
its not a comic image. it was promo art for heroes reborn. they signed contracts last minute before con and had him shit out art in like an afternoon to be inked and colored.
Liefeld thread?
>ammo pouch
Liefeld's greatest contribution to comics, really.
I unironically look exactly like Liefeld Captain America and even went as him for Halloween.
To pull off the look you have to pull your arm back from your body as you're holding the shield.
post body
I didn't like any of the Image founding fathers even when they were popular.
todd was ridiculously good at the time. his batman and spiderman were so good and dynamic.
I didn't care for his Spiderman work at all.
quad damage
This picture of so much soul. And i don't know why?
>weakest soldier main

Those are kino though. Get fricked jaded moron
They're fine in their own way (except the feet which come across as lazy), but there's a point when it bleeds into everything you do and stops being appropriate.
>but there's a point when it bleeds into everything you do and stops being appropriate
Go read manga then idiot. Comics is not for you
Well I guess that's why they're outselling them by such a wide margin...

Captain America looks like he has breast implants and thats pretty gay
damn they look chill, I wish I had friends like this
but then again, I have no friends at all ;_;
Because it's gay
because they're flat
Why the frick does his shield have muscles?
His body ran out of space.
I never really had that big of a reaction to Liefeld, it takes lot for comic art to make me laugh or like think it's awful, Liefeld work is just whatever to me not a fan but not like hating it.
Awful art.
Is not that awful, right guys?
It's not great
ok fine
Well?
I don't know. Better i guess?
Still terrible.
why does he have those gay little wings on his head
Linkara is cringe and so is this image of Captain America. Anyone who disputes either of these facts is deluded.
1. It's everything that's wrong with comics in the 90's and still to this day.
2.it looks like it was drawn by a amateur that doesn't understand basic human anatomy (because that's exactly what it is)
3.Captain America is a stupid character made for ww2 propaganda.
