The prequels have been praised for a long time already. It was boomers who were trashing them back then, but they've pretty much stopped following star wars after 2005 so millennials and zoomers are the ones who kept the prequel love going.
Gen X
1961 is boomer, almost gen x
>for a long time already
By zoomers. If you're going to claim that zoomers have taste then lick my butthole.
Zoomers weren't even born yet.
Uh no. Keep that prequel bullshit out of millennials. That's allllll zoomer nostalgia bullshit.
I have truly become the boomer. As the sequel trilogy has made me bored of SW. I'm just not into like I was. I haven't watched anything new SW related since the Mandalorian season 1
People like revenge of the sith (which is a great movie) and dont like the disney trilogy. Leading to the prequels getting a good wrap. Also younger star wars fans watched the prequels when they were kids, unlike the star wars fanbase who saw the prequels as adults when it came out.
no it's not, it's fricking garbage shut the frick up
Because they weren't universally panned on release?
>Because they weren't universally panned on release?
They literally were? Unless you want to include israeli media critics. Do you want to include them?
>israeli media critics.
Wtf does that even mean?
>kid anakin and jar jar were so despised that their actors were harassed irl so much that one became a druggie and the other attempt to an hero
A non-negligible amount of people hated those movies, no matter how many youtubers try to convince you otherwise.
>pic
Anakin might be the only SW character I like, but the amount of b***hing and coping he does for someone Obi-wan would describe as charismatic and “a good friend” some 30 years later is unacceptable. Surely there must’ve been a better way to illustrate his rise and fall than to make him school shooter core.
The hate towards them was more so everyone found young Anakin and JarJat annoying and disappointment they didn't live up to what people had been imagining in their head for decades
The kids who watched them grew up and have nostalgia for them now. The same thing will happen with the sequels.
No. No it won’t
That's what people said about the prequels and here we are.
The prequels had good aesthetics and designs to lean on at least, for instance the clone troopers and droids are well liked along with some characters like Darth Maul, the sequels less so.
Mark my words, in 15 years people will say the same thing about the First Order, Kylo Ren, Poe and Rey. Exactly the same thing will happen that happened with the prequels.
Nope.
Nobody likes the Sequels
Nobody liked the Prequels either. I guarantee you there's thousands of impressionable 10 year olds watching them on their parents Disney+ that will be nostalgic about them in their 20s.
The prequels had a massive multimedia entertainment push to accompany them, for like eight years straight a kid couldn't walk into a toy store or a gamestop or a book store without seeing a new Star Wars prequel product on the shelf.
The same isn't true of the sequels. Nobody cares, there are no books or games or toys, none that anyone ever bought. They don't care. At best some zoomie will say the Fortnite event was cool.
The prequels sold toys and games using their setting. Nothing is being made in the Sequel's setting because it doesn't really have one: everything's just getting set in the aftermath of the OT.
You just have to look at the amount of memes that's been generated to know that's not true. Prequel memes are a category all by themselves "This is where the fun begins" and "hello there" will be classics forever and made in good fun while the only memes from the sequels are "dey here" and "they fly now" both of which are derisive.
People endlessly making jokes at prequel movies expense doesn't mean they think they're good, dumbass. it's just the literal defintion of "it's so bad it's good" which just means you're making fun of it.
That said the sequels were an abomination
>doesn't mean they think they're good, dumbass.
yes it does you ugly sack of shit
>I hate sand xD
10/10 masterpiece
it's full of creative spark and soul
go watch breaking bad again you fricking dipshit
I never said they were good. Just that it means people have an affection for them regardless of how they feel about the actual quality of the movies which cannot be said about the sequels.
The sequels won't see the same amount of comeback the prequels got.
1. The prequel resurgence happened in part BECAUSE of the sequel trilogy coming out and disappointing people. Unless there's a new mainline movie series that acts as a reason to re-evaluate the sequels, the sequel trilogy doesn't have this working in their favor. Even if a new trilogy dropped, I highly suspect that it would be bad for the same reasons the ST is bad and still wouldn't have the same effect.
2. There was much more, and a wider array of, tie-in material for the prequels than for the sequels. So even if you didn't like the prequels as they came out, you probably enjoyed some of the other material. If there's less stuff to like, there's less stuff to positively remember.
3. Star Wars is not as popular as it once was, it's now a C tier franchise that's been overshadowed by stuff like the MCU. If less people are talking, less people are going to defend them.
4. The sequel trilogy is NOT meant for new fans. The whole inception is to "correct" the "mistakes" that Lucas made with the prequels, and JJ clearly intended this to shine through in his movies. Cue "this will begin to make things right" from TFA. Prequel defenders largely come from fans who had the prequels as "their" movies, the ST just isn't aimed in the same direction to sow those seeds in the first place.
5. A huge concentration of sequel trilogy discussion is solely on TLJ. I have not seen anyone genuinely think that ROS is a good movie, and TFA just doesn't really get discussed at all, and when it does it's apathetic at best. There is not going to be a resurgence of a TRILOGY when the discourse is so heavily concentrated on just one of its films.
>The prequel resurgence happened in part BECAUSE of the sequel trilogy coming out and disappointing people.
Prequelgays also frequently point to Lucas to legitimize their (very shit) tastes. It's why so many prequelgays feel compelled to defend the Special Editions too. No subsequent trilogy will ever have that.
Dont be dumb. You have no idea how bad disney can frick up this franchise. It can always get worse. Not saying it will make the sequels 'great', but they could attain 'watchable' status
They can’t.
Luke is the heart and soul of Star Wars. Kathleen took direct aim at him and stripped him of everything that made him iconic. When that backfired, Kennedy went after Anakin and stripped him of his accomplishments and gave them to Rey.
It’s not about “watchable.” It’s bigger than that. The ST wrecks the previous films. It does so intentionally. Frick the sequels. And no, “Rise of Skywalker” is not “watchable” in any sense
Children don't care about Star Wars like they did during the prequels. The merch and media blitz of the prequels era and the inevitable nostalgia for it would be more for brands like minecraft and fortnite at this point You're fixating on the Star Wars part of this rather than it just being whatever brand that the kids are obsessing over at the time.
In 15 years, no one will give a frick about or care for Star Wars, but they will be nostalgic for clash royale, youtube, fortnite, bluey, lol surprise brands.
You would be hard pressed to find someone under 12 who can even name a handful of star wars characters. Disney has ran the brand into the ground.
>You would be hard pressed to find someone under 12 who can even name a handful of star wars characters. Disney has ran the brand into the ground.
This is why they need a new boss at Lucasfilm. Kathleen is holding the brand hostage for her (lol) 2027 Rey Palpatine movie. How the frick are shareholders allowing this much wealth destruction? It’s insane
I don't hear anyone talk about them at all. people at least talked about the prequels over time. hell, even though everyone I know saw the force awakens, I don't actually know anyone who saw whatever the third one was called.
Even at release the sequels had the praise of having actual puppets and less reliance on cgi. They'll sound just as stupid as you. So aesthetics will definitely be a positive when the nostalgia comes around for those movies. You're delusional.
Kids actually watched the prequels. Only Gen X and Millennial boomers watched the sequels. Pay attention this Halloween and see how many kids are dressed as Star Wars characters and then look at how many are dressed as OT and PT adjacent characters versus ST. I bet you 5 kisses that you'll see more Mandalorians, Ahsokas, and Darth Vaders than Finns, Holdos, and Reys.
>Kids actually watched the prequels
Yes and now they have nostalgia. I'm glad we agree.
That's literally what people said about the prequels. You'll get old enough to see it and it'll piss you off just like we don't understand prequel apologists.
the biggest thing the sequels have against is that stars isnt the big cultural phenomenon it was back then. Marvel has replaced them on that front .zoomers darth vader is thanos. The hype was massive for the prequels only the force awakens reached those levels .Whether you like the tlj it still managed to derail the stars wars hype train and it hasnt really recovered
they are beginning to realize that star wars shouldn't be treated like a comic serial with a new issue each month. that's fricking dumb. there should be a new star wars movie ever 10 years or so and people would care more
if I could travel back to 1998 and was to tell people, listen in the future someone you won't even realize there has been a new star wars out, they'd laugh at you.
yeah they need to go back to the model but they disney needs content .Only the movies have slowed down a bit but it mostly because they keep canceling everything because they are scared lol
the phantom menace was a fun movie. attack of the clones was terrible. revenge of the sith was kino.
This basically. TPM kind of got a pass (like TFA) because it was "OMG Star Wars is back!" and people were excited about learning about Anakin and Obi-Wan. We knew there were more coming so, just like with TFA, shit that shouldn't have gotten a pass, did. The AotC came out and it was just total dog shit. Then RotS came out and it was exciting because it was the "dark" chapter and Anakin becoming Vader. It was at least ok.
>ywn be a Jedi pranking your fellow Jedi by making their drink not pour out of their glass with your force powers.
But they hugely expanded the setting. Good things were salvaged from the prequels.
>But they hugely expanded the setting
I guess. I don't consider that a major positive for the prequels, though. Much of that expansion is trivial or counteracted by stupid world-shrinking decisions elsewhere.
Modern Star Wars is so bad, the bad of the past is looked back on warmly.
This.
The Prequels are definitely flawed, and not as good as the OT. But they are MILES ahead of the Sequel trilogy
disney wars being what it is does not retroactively make the prequels good. The prequels were shit. Simple as.
Why were Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan fighting Darth Maul?
darth maul was after padme
obi wan and qui gon were protecting padme, so maul had to deal with them before getting to her
1) they weren't universally panned at release
2) they were pretty good, but flawed films that in hindsight look better now that the soulless sequel trilogy and tv series have come into being
they were not pretty good, the plotting of clone wars and phantom menace relies way too much on moronic coincidence and luck
>coincidence and luck
Coincidence and luck are the domain of destiny AKA The Force
coincidence and luck is life baybee
so do all the fricking OT movies
and? tell me one fricking great action movie that doesnt suffer the same flwas, you idiot. They are films for kids.
>the plotting of clone wars and phantom menace relies way too much on moronic coincidence and luck
The entire OT is like that too.
what about it relies on coincidence or luck? sheev controlled everything from the start, and was an incredibly intelligent, manipulative, and dynamic sith lord who could easily adapt his plans to fit new variables.
(1) yes they absolutely were. I doubt you were alive at the time
(2)They were really shitty movies. Are you moronic? Are you just being contrarian for (you)s or are you legitimately moronic?
>perfectly interwoven storytelling
It's interwoven in the same way cat turds are stitched together by a hairball the cat swallowed.
couldn't have said it better myself
Because Disney completely ruined Star Wars to the point that now even the prequels seem good by comparison.
If you spend 20 years claiming they're the worst things ever created by humanity then no shit eventually opinion is gonna mellow out
Because they were sincere
A noble failure vs. a cynical cash grab.
This why any “anger” towards the Prequels are gone. People recognize that Lucas shot for the moon. And even if he didn’t get there, at least he tried.
Versus….let’s hurr durr remake the OT with a soulless corporate girlboss and shit all over Leia, Anakin, Luke, etc.™™™™
Frick the sequels
well put
>A noble failure vs. a cynical cash grab.
Disney was definitely more greedy but lets not give lucas too much credit, there were a number of decisions made in the prequels simply for the purpose of toy sales
You seem to imply that's a bad thing.
God it looks so fricking cool.
Yes exactly, they are rooted in actual meaning
Because the Disney Star Wars movies are so trash, that the prequels look decent by comparison. The prequels were never good. They're just not as bad as Disney.
Star wars is fricking gay.
Red Letter Media brainwashed people into hating the Prequels. Thankfully, more people are breaking the conditioning.
This. Mike Stoklasa ruined Star Wars and filmmaking.
what else would you expect from a talentless, ugly, mean-spirited homosexual?
i was not alive when they were released
Because we didn't know how bad things could get.
Objectively the prequels are mid, but in comparison to what we have now they're Shakespearean kino.
The kids that grew up watching them and enjoyed them are well into adulthood now. The adults who grew up on the OT and hated the prequels are old and nobody cares about their opinions anymore.
because they were kids when watching those movies and it's just a nostalgia trip.
Reactions to the prequels were always mixed. It's just that the RLM-type haters were always the loudest.
episode 1 was like a kid's movie. it was very cringe.
but the visuals and designs were good
The prequels were not about personal relationships, friendship or love. That was done in the OT. The whole point of the prequel was the broader picture and social critique that was lacking in the originals, which were in turn more focused on personal struggles and journeys.
When Star Wars is described as a "Space Opera" it is because it is precisely how it was envisioned by George Lucas.
The Prequels are the Overture, the OT is the Recitative and thrown in between them you have the Aria which are the lightsaber battles and space gunfights. Unfortunately the fan base is largely made up of brainlets such as yourself, and Lucas's grandiose masterpiece gets lost by people of limited intellect who get distracted by the droids, funny characters and quips. But hey, The Marriage of Figaro also had those "distractions" for the sake of selling tickets. It takes however a different kind of appreciation to truly enjoy Mozart's masterpiece.
The interpersonal relationships of the Original Trilogy cannot exist without the Overture of the Sequels? Why? Because it is in the sequels that we learn how the Republic failed to even outlaw slavery throughout the Galaxy despite being around for a thousand years. It is in the prequels that we see how a Senator was happy to land her space Lamborghini in the middle of a planet full of slaves to buy spare parts, showing how having hotspots of illegality was convenient to the Republican elite. We learn how a seemingly "peaceful" planet's ruling class denied representation in the Senate to at least one of the species that shared that planet with them. We see how detached the Jedi had become to the point where they were happy to abandon a child who had just been taken away from his mother because he was "too old" for their ritualistic bullshit. Frick I could go on and on all day but it would be pointless because you're a true pleb.
Lucas was right to sell his franchise. You don't deserve him. You deserve Reyloshit.
>George Lucas be like "My target audience is 11 year old boys xD"
>Why do people like the prequels now when they were universally panned on release?
They weren't. Mainstream reviews were positive. Kevin Smith and Roger Ebert gave them a thumbs-up. Nerds were divided between hating them and defending them because they were so stoked for ANY new star wars film.
I was 12 when the Phantom Menace released and thought they were entertaining-enough CG spectacles even if I couldn't make sense of the plots.
The broad strokes plot of the prequels is fine, even good. The dialogue and details not so much.
People hated windwaker and loved twilight princess when it came out, now it’s the other way around. People don’t know what they like. All they know is the shit scale. If the scale is perfectly balanced then it’s a good film series throughout. But if the newer stuff comes out and sucks shit, like with Star Wars, the scale gets weighed down and the old stuff seems better. But if the new stuff is better it weighs less on the shit scale and the old stuff looks worse. The shit scale is a universal truth
everyone I know thought the prequels were bad though, a huge disappointment and not what anyone wanted. Sure there was some cool stuff but no one actually thought the story was good
t. 30 year old boomer who was like 14 when phantom menace was released
>1999 was 16 years ago
where did the time go bros
Coping by lowering the bar
It's that simple
zoomers are nostalgia blind. The prequels sucked dick then and they're even worse now.
Hack, doesn't know a fricking thing.
George Lucas has good ideas
He just needs a tard wrangler and a "NO man" to be truly effective
exactly the same as David Lynch. but Cinemaphile doesnt want to hear that
I have Disney+ and have still never seen Rise of Skywalker but on multiple occasions watched Phantom Menace. It’s just so goofy and dripping with 90s daily. Easily the best Star Wars movie made after 1980.
Zoomers are moronic
indians, prequel defenders, and leftists need to be banned from this website.
Because who kids who grew up on them have now grown up, and they're the loudest voices. So now the cultural memory has been edited into everyone thinking they're good. Just like everyone agreed the Hobbit films or battle royale games were utter dogshit when they came out but at this point you're seeing a lot of apologists online swearing it's kino.
Nostalgia from younger people and sequels being bad. Also at release they had a more conflicted reception, not universally panned nor beloved.
Wait but why were Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan fighting Darth Maul in the first place?
This twitter post is fricking moronic, the third act of TPM is where the movie shits itself
>This twitter post is fricking moronic
Welcome to the entirety of twitter. Go back
I liked The Phantom Menace when it came out. But I was the target audience - a little kid. Boomers who were nostalgic for the original trilogy built up an insane level of hype for that movie, and a nostalgia-tinted mythologizing of the original trilogy, that couldn't possibly be matched.
There was dumb shit in The Phantom Menace, but Return of the Jedi was just as dumb. There was plenty of cool stuff too. Attack of the Clones was legitimately bad, though
Prequels were always “kinda good” in that they had some really great parts but strung together with crap since Lucas rushed out a first draft after getting his toy rights back
>Prequels were always “kinda good”
Not even when they came out.
People that were 6-10 years old then and were easily impressed by explosions and laser sword fights are now old enough to voice their opinion about their childhood nostalgia on the internet, just like the OT fans.
I never thought they were bad. You fricking idiots were too much of parroting NPCs to have your own opinion.
>were too much of parroting NPCs
moron
>they were universally panned on release
They weren't. People enjoyed them, with a cadre of pissed off nerds no one liked anyway whining about it on the ancient internet.
>t. was actually there
>They weren't
They clearly were. No one cares about your israelite media reviews.
they made so much money its unbelievably
everyone loved them
>THEY WERE UNIVERSALLY PANNED BY EVERYONE
>NOOOOOOOOO NO THAT UNIVERSALLY
You people are clowns who can't even form thoughts. I blame the CIA for making you all so stupid.
It was slop when it came out but compared to today's slop, it seems good. Not like this has not happened before.
>tfw nostalgic zoomies can't change how bad the prequels were
>non American esl posters trying to fellate the prequels
You can if you want. All you're doing is admitting America makes better films than you.
by that logic you can conclude you should shove a fork up your ass, have a nice day, i apologize for the behavior of my passion.
Nostalgia+Disney being even fricking worse.
I didn't listen to critics then, and I still don't now.
What did you think of them, then?
I liked them as a child and still like them now. The dialogue in 3 is probably the most hokey of them all, but they're all great action/adventure movies.
Same, though as an adult I can see why people didn't like them. II in particular has not aged well, though it has that enduring 1950s retro-futuristic look not found in any other SW movie.
Digital production and the abundance of CGI in general just tends to age worse, visually. Both fidelity and the actual tools used to make them were still a bit rough at that point, but I greatly appreciate just how much the prequels expanded the universe with new creatures, locations, and vehicles.
It's partly the aging CGI, but it's more the dialogue for me. Half the movie is spent following around 2 people with 0 chemistry who have the least convincing "falling in love" story possible.
True. On more recent rewatches, 2 and 3's weakest parts are Anakin and Padme's dialogue. Anakin does tend to come off better when playing against Obi Wan.
TPM and AOTC also suffer from very shit remasters because Lucasfilm has been incompetent and very stupid long before they were in Disney's clutches.
kids grown up
>Why do people like the prequels now
I always did and episode 1 is my favorite star wars
>they were universally panned on release?
why do fat moronic boomers think 6-13 year olds would have any clue about the crying about these movies when we were more interested in playing podracing on N64 and KOTOR on xbox?
when are the old geeks going to get it through their heads these films have always been made for kids.
People without personality or IQ think mindlessly disagreeing with the consensus in all cases will be a fine replacement for both. They enjoy the sensation of thinking they're right about something that everyone else has gotten wrong. You see the same thing here every day.
The movies are also filled with extremely bad placeholder dialogue, which lends itself well to little memes, which terminally online tablet zoomers love. "Haha, HELLO THERE, haha it's an inside joke it's just like I have friends haha!"
A more succinct way to put it all would be that everyone is gay and moronic, and they've made a gay and moronic world.
>universally panned
what the frick are you talking about? phantom menace was the shit, was great, i saw it in cinema and was rad as frick, the thing is some fat homosexuals began to critisize it, the third one was fricking great too, i loved that movie.
What part of "the prequels were better movies than you deserve" did you not understand?
>the prequels were better movies than you deserve
Are you referring to that awful overlong Youtube video essay?
People loved TPM when it came out, it was only after the AotC that people's opinion started to change.
The Pinkett review distorted history.
No.
cause they were only hated by old ass homies? kids loved them and grew up to become the modern Star Wars fanbase. that's why 15% of the fanbase sucks off Andor like it's the second coming of running water while everyone else ignored that shit cause it didn't revolve around the Jedi or Sith - the fricking main event draw of the whole setting.
I grew up loving the prequels but I also really liked Andor cause its better then anything Disney released.
i respect that. i was the same way with Rogue One if i'm being honest, even before the scene with Vader at the end.
They absolutely weren't universally panned. That's revisionist history. Almost everyone I knew back then and people O heard talk about it really enjoyed it minor gripes and all
I doubt most people in this thread were even alive during 1999. if you're born in 2000 you'd be 23 already. Most anons probably aren't even 20.
I went to a midnight show on opening night. I still remember seeing the trailer ahead of Wing Commander. We bought tickets for that shitty movie again just to watch that trailer one more time.
People thought Phantom Menace was the disappointment of a lifetime when it came out, before YouTube, before video essays, before revisionist zoomer anons from discord ever sucked their first wiener.
Sometimes it feels like everything on this website is a giant gas light from homosexual ass morons in competition with one another to see who can get other homosexual ass morons to believe the most ridiculous things. There are underage fortnite dancing homosexuals who seriously think the prequels were well liked, for fricks sake you people are worthless
The children who saw them grew up.
Prequels were garbage but they were star wars at it's most shounen so boys that grew up with it have a fond memory of them despite their awfulness since it had all the psychological elements that appeal to young boys and male nerds even more than the OT if we being honest.
Just look at the prequels, power system is brought more into the forefront, more action packed with each movie having these big massive showdowns between the heroes & villians. Attractive female co lead that show skin, cool looking/edgy villains, and male leads that fit the stereotypical action hero role for the self insert.
Even the Jedi org as their presented in this era is shounen af when you zoom out, like they're an organization of super powered monks with ranks based on power levels. Man, every single thing about the prequels is porn to a young boy's mind.
because they watched them as children, and they were written/directed by a moron
The prequels weren't executed properly but the storytelling was at least well done and the movies had Lucas's vision so they had their own comfy charm. You just need to fill in the bad parts with your own imagination.
part of the issue was high expectations. by all means the star wars prequels weren't horrible movies but still didn't live up to the reputation of the franchise. part of the issue being that people didn't like the new approach lucas was taking with those virtual sets and all.
they're ok movies but bad star wars movies. on the other hand they shine in comparison to those sequel turds. if you're a kid who never heard about much star wars and just randomly saw the prequels on the internet or whatever they would be great.
>if you're a kid who never heard about much star wars and just randomly saw the prequels
that's pretty much me I thought star wars was dumb old people shit when I was a kid in the 90s. I was more into Jurassic park event horizon and Ernest movies. my dad took me to see episode 1 when I was 10 and I was blown away by it and loved it.
Ep1 will always be my favorite star wars I could give a frick what Xer gays say
Embarrassing larp
what am I larping about you fricking tard?
You know and so do I, I'm not going to humor your gaygish antics, you nogs do this all day here
>You know and so do I, I'm not going to humor your gaygish antics,
are you on meds or something holy shit lol not everyone lies on the internet anon. its like something has you triggered beyond reason from my simple childhood.
Nothing could have lived up to the hype, though. You have to understand that A New Hope made close to $4 billion dollars (in constant dollars) at the global box office and was probably the most watched movie in the history of Earth. The OT was a Beatles/ Michael Jackson level cultural phenomenon.
Even if The Phantom Menace was perfect (and it was pretty flawed) there would have been complaints. That movie had insane pressure on it to succeed.
But while it was a flawed movie, it did introduce a young kid character that 10 year olds loved in Anakin Skywalker. Kids grew up with Anakin just like they grew up with Luke. The PT also had awesome fricking games, comics, novels, cartoons, lore, etc that kids all around the world could dig into.
The Sequels have none of that.
>The PT also had awesome fricking games, comics, novels, cartoons, lore, etc that kids all around the world could dig into.
that's the thing I never could understand with the games specifically. why the hell did Disney scrap Lucas arts. the main thing that got me so into star wars was the games and there must of been 100s in the late 90s-late 2000s. EA has only released a handful in the same period of time its no wonder kids are not into star wars now days.
Because Lucas saw Star Wars as an epic interactive fantasy narrative and he knew men and women, boys and girls would want to explore every part of it… be it through games, toys, lore, etc.
Kennedy sees Star Wars as a corporate brand, and as a platform to push her gender-obsessed identity politics.
Because the initial reviewers wanted something else and new viewers dont have the same expectations
>Why do people like the prequels now when they were universally panned on release?
They WERE? Roger Ebert gave Episode III a 3.5 stars.
When I got out of the theater after seeing Phantom Menace, the ticket checker guy asked me, "So did it look good? Were the special effects good?" And I said, "It was okay, the effects weren't really that good. The whole movie looked kinda washed out" And he was like "I knew it!"
Later on I figured out it was because it was the first movie shown on new digital projectors, and the projectors were crap.
Oldgay here who watched all three prequels films in theater at the perfect age for all of them (7 years old for episode 1, 10 years old episode 2, 13 for episode III). Ask me anything.
favorite prequel?
>favorite prequel?
Three overall
Two for aesthetics and atmosphere
One for storytelling
pretty much the same for me 1-2-3 in that order I never understood why everyone says ROS was the best. maybe its cause I was 14 by the time that one came out I was just not as into it anymore.
Ask yourself this: how much world building was there in the sequels compared to the prequels? In the prequels, you learn about new and old republic, separatists, trade federation, gungans and nabooians, geonosians, jedi order, hutts, tatooni not being part of the republic and having slavery, sith and their whole lore, etc.
Sequels you got: hurr durr new empire and republic exists
I guess you learn about... a bigger deathstar, the knights of ren, the new order, hobo luke and him trying to kill a student over a bad dream, and that little fella baba friggs or what his name is. also the emperor somehow returning back to life
>how much world building was there in the sequels compared to the prequels?
Literally 0.0. All the “Sequels” did was burn down Star Wars. There was no world building, there was only world destruction.
- the New Republic destroyed
- the New Jedi Order destroyed
- the Big 3 destroyed
- Anakin as chosen one destroyed
- training for years to become a Jedi - destroyed
- basic logic destroyed
Oh, but in exchange for all that destruction, we got a certified slayqueen girlboss™ who mastered the Force in one afternoon!
>Why do people like the prequels now
People realize that Plinkett, RLM, and other reviewers are a bunch of fat morons with an opinions equivalent to a screen door on a submarine.
>rlm and rlm drones trash the PT
>yidsney takes their word as gospel
>copies their predictions nearly word for word
>the sequels are nearly universally panned by OT and PT fans alike despite israelite shilling on Cinemaphile and yidsney israelitetubers
the prequels are FAR from perfect but there is no level of character assassination like the OT characters under the mouse
>the prequels have too much politics in it
>kids are too STUPID for politics
Shut the frick up you stupid fricks.
I was a kid when the came out and could figure out what was going on even if I didn't understand every little detail
As someone that dislikes the prequels, I never got the politics criticism.
Same with TLJ (which I HATE) and the casino. The way the casino looked was fine. It was a reverse Mos Eisley.
What they did story-wise with it was DUMB.
Anyone else get this for Christmas of 2002?
I got this Starfighter and I believe Jango's Slave I. Got some decent stuff for the old XBox too.
guess again homosexual
Their writing is flawed to the core but the A E S T H E T I C S just cannot be topped and is backed by impeccable music and an ambitious scale that gets a good amount of playtime out of the amazing ships and vehicles
star wars is a garbage franchise
the prequels are absolute shit
the sequels are absolute shit
even the original trilogy is now absolute shit because that hack fraud lucas ruined them with his moronic special editions
kill the franchise
kys you are the definition of no fun allowed.
eating shit isn't fun you stupid homosexual
stop eating shit
Attack of the Clones is peak Star wars
KINO
don't think I was ever more hyped in a movie then when it got to this point in Ep2
That's why it's peak
you homosexuals are the reason capeshit exists
genuinely wish death upon you and everyone like you
>you homosexuals are the reason capeshit exists
What blud waffling about
really? because I've never been into capeshit
It would be safe to call the colloseum scene, John Carter esque?
The John Carter movie came out a decade after AotC so if anything John Carter is AotC-esque. On a related note I'm surprised more chuds don't like John Carter given that the villainous Therns are a very obvious allegory for israelites.
the sequel were such pure shit, some people realized "damn... maybe the previous ones werent that bad".
The only people who hated the prequels back then were Xoomer manchildren who were butthurt that TPM was a kid-friendly movie instead of being two hours of Darth Vader killing everybody. Jar-Jar Binks was also critically panned and blamed for ruining the movie when he was only one character out of an ensemble cast. The fact of the matter is that the OT are kiddie movies too. All the Star Wars movies made by Lucas were intended for 12-year-old boys except for ROTS, which is for 13-year-old boys.
they weren't universally panned on release. they were some of the most successful movies ever made, and earned billions of dollars at the box office.
Aside from Anakin the third act was pretty awesome.
For me it was realizing that Return of the Jedi was actually bullshit. That I was one of the kids that the Ewoks pandered to.
Once I realized that I was less harsh on the prequels.
This. I like all six movies, but the OT is just as silly and contrived as the prequels. They’re kids movies. Xoomers just got filtered because Lucas made TPM for actual children like he did the first three movies, and not 35-year-old manchildren.
RotJ is a mess, but I don't think that's cause to let the prequels off the hook for being shit. It's just reason to call RotJ a mess.
Zoomer here who watched VII at age 11, VIII at 13 and IX at 15, all in theatres (plus the other two) as pretty much my first exposure to star wars
Ask me anything
I did always disagree with Mike about how the 3rd act needed to be a copy of Star Wars.
Still Kid Anakin going "now this is pod racing" and taking out the trade fed is still complete garbage, why couldn't he have just been at least 15-16.
manchildren culture
I remember the first one being so bad I didn't bother with episodes 2 and 3.
Back when I was a kid the coolest thing I had known about Star Wars was by far Maul. From my limited interaction with others on the topic at the time, that sentiment was not uncommon.
Why care what the totally-not-bots on Twitter are saying, totally-not-bot-on-Cinemaphile?
