He's hit or miss, his directors cuts are usually significantly better. He just always gives in to the studios and gives them 2 hour films for the npcs.
The rise of Directors Cut is both a blessing and a curse in cinema. He is pretty adaptable as a director which is his greatest strength and is as prolific as Woody Allen.

Ironclad is a good example of a movie that is historically pretty shitty but it at least delivers on the sword kino enough to be watchable. I typically don't think Kate Mara ruins anything but my dick from beating it so hard but she ruins this movie pretty bad. and only the sword kino redeems it. KoH, either cut, has no such answer for Eva Green, the same bawd archetype.

I'm convinced that he lives backwards through time like Merlin, it's the only way to explain how he went from absolute kino like Blade Runner and Alien to fricking slop like Napoleon and Prometheus
I'm less salty about the films he does make than the ones he prevented from being made. He stopped Blomkamp's Alien revival because he wanted to do his own thing but his own thing was to retcon the series until it doesn't even make sense anymore and the films are more about the Engineers and Androids than Xenos. He essentially used the tenuous Alien connection to secure a budget for projects that really weren't Alien movies at all.
And yeah, Blomkamp would have no doubt inserted some tiresome commentary about capitalism or social justice but if the biomechanical shit was a good as it was in District 9 I cold live with it. And we'd have got another movie with based Biehn in it. I don't even hate Prometheus but it wasn't worth killing the last chance to fix the Xeno continuity.
