Nobody's responded to my posts about no shows satisfying my romance demands yet.
Because you once you resolve a romance subplot, the love interest character effectively becomes useless, even if they’re well written.
You can never end the central conflict because once you do, the story is over.
SpongeBob can never get his license
Eddy can never get his jawbreakers
Pinky and the Brain can never take over the world
These are central conflicts to these characters and they would lose more than they would gain if they ever achieved these things.
Look at romance subplots that did get resolved in shows
Gumball and Penny
Ruby and Saphire
The various ships in Star Vs
Those are just some examples, but those characters effectively lost any reason to exist because their entire story was based around their budding romance.
This same issue happens in anime. Once the two become an actual couple, their interactions are basically non-existent and the reason you followed the two is gone. There’s a reason romance movies ends with the fairytale ending. It’s not to say that they were always happy, it’s to end it when the story we were there to see ends because it never works out when you try to continue the adventure after the conflict is nicer
See that's bullshit since there's loads of plots people can and have done after two characters get together. In fact you just mentioned one, Penny and Gumball have loads of episodes of them trying to do couple stuff after they get together.

The Wendip stuff was by far the most unbearably cringe aspect of Gravity Falls. The show had a lot of problems in regards to its women characters
