Why do zoomers fawn over this guy? He's honestly a very unremarkable actor.

Why do zoomers fawn over this guy? He's honestly a very unremarkable actor. Is it just because of the "literally me irl fr fr" characters he plays?

He's good at picking projects, for the most part. And obviously because he's literally us.

This is true, Arnie, Chuck Norris, Kris Kristofferson, John Travolta, John Shaft, Jackie Chan, Charles Bronson and Sly Stallone very often were unremarkable as 'actors' but made great action movies.

He's solid at playing the one character he does, and there aren't many others who do it. Also he's literally me IRL.

I don't know if you have seen movies lately, but there aren't a lot of white skinned ~~**~~ actors around to idolize let alone even see in movies these days.

Or maybe it’s because he’s multi-talented (proven good singer as well as actor) and has decades of good roles under his belt, dipshit OP.

I have yet to see him ever give a mediocre performance, even in the most cringe movies. He's good at everything he touches.

Seriously, if you think the Barbie movie would’ve reached a billie without him in it, you’re delusional. Greta Gerwig couldn’t direct her way out of a paper bag.

He is literally the last A list actor still active.

he was the last actor to get noticed before the smart phone brain drain of 2011

Have you seen Lars and the Real Girl? The thing about him is that he's really versatile. Romance, comedy, action, drama, etc. He can do it all without "overacting".

Versatility always means mediocrity in lieu of specialisation in my experience

It's exactly the opposite for actors, acting isn't a tech or science job where specialization is useful. An actor that can only play 1 archetype is doomed to be made fun of and booted within 5-8 years

          Anonymous

Have you acted? Acting a type of persona requires understanding that persona. Like any industry it's difficult to become an expert in multiple areas. Savants are usually specialised.

            Anonymous

If you can only master 1 persona you are seriously flawed as an actor, partly a reason why a lot of main actors from big series never manage to break through in films afterwards. Other than maybe some western or noir actors from the 40's/'50s I really can't think of a good or successful actor that only had one specialization. The other way around, when I think about some of the actors that are considered the biggest and have had long careers, it's the ones that have shown a wide versatility

he's a meme on Cinemaphile and a meme actor.
He's not particularly talented or charismatic, and he definitely lacks range. Although he was good in Drive, and maybe Only God Forgives, not many other good performances though
