thats not guts
it is a bad edgy anime that tries too hard to be adult
See
It may be worth watching as a cautionary lesson in how to not write dialogue. It's one of the worst written cartoons all the way down, but the dialogue stands out as absolutely execrable. An inner city junior high student could do better.
I felt like the 3rd season improved in overall quality compared to previous ones,
3rd season was the only one written with the 23 minute long episodes taken into account, the other two seasons were under the assumption it was 30 minute long episodes. You can blame Shitfex for that runtime kneecapping but at the same I do place some blame on the writer and production studio. Even after knowing after the first season they just jumped straight into production of the next instead of taking a quick look over the script to figure out what character arcs and plot lines they could drop or streamline to make it fit better into the new time constraints. It's even more frustrating so now that they straight up ignored Auroth's existence in Season 3, which means in the grand scheme of things she literally only existed to foreshadow Kashurra being a void dragon
oh yeah, now that you mention it i didn't even realize everyone forgot auroth existed in season 3
luna's arc also went nowhere, pangolier never justified the point of his existence
i don't get why people like season 3, it felt like the "last episode" that was stretched to be 3 hour long, just laserfocused on one direct story and forgot all the humor and adventure and politics and moving parts season 2 and 3 had, ditching any charm in exchange for dumb drama
it felt exhausting to slog through it
season 2 and 1 had i mean
>laserfocused on one direct story
Because for a show with 8 episodes in each season one properly made story arc is better compared to lots of shit happening the same time. As it's easier to follow and easier to actually make it decent instead of rushed and confusing for viewers. Season 1 had a lot of pacing and storytelling issues, the second one felt a bit better but still felt in dire need for a couple extra episodes.
>Why does absolutely no one cares about this show?
No manic pixie punk/goth girl for me to protect and save with my penis
It's just average, there is nothing really to talk about. Plus Arcane happened, so it's kinda unfair.
Because Valve doesn't fricking advertise and no one cares about Dota other than Dota players, and even they don't care to watch an anime because they're too busy playing Dota.
because isnt even fricking dota but some other project skinned as dota by writers
>skinned as dota by writers
Sometimes you wonder if billionaires would just bankroll projects of their friends so they can get a leg up in the industry. Crank out a few cartoons or music videos or whatever the frick to pad out that CV.
This is probably one of those things. Not saying Gabe did it because I can't imagine that frick doing anything. But I feel like the people at Valve just wanted to look like they were busy so they called up their friend in struggling-animation-studio and cranked this shit out. Because what better way to make your video game look like a real video game than to give it a animated adaptation.
Lazy fricking studio couldn't even be bothered to redesign any of the shit Valve designs. I remember the interview with the storyboarder who just outright admitted he knew nothing about DotA and just kinda assumed Mirana was an elf.
its literally funded by a saudi prince.
saudis are extremely into dota and this guy is also well known as also owning the biggest whale dota account that has every single limited cosmetic item.
its one of the rare situations where a fan basically bankrolled a show for something he loves.
Very boring. That's it, my entire review.
I watched a couple eps. The plot is very messy and the show gets boring. I really wanted to like it. The first ep was fine. It was downhill from there. I didn't end up finishing the season. I think people don't discuss it because it's not high quality at anything.
Well the real reason is because Cinemaphile writing has been abysmal garbage since the writer guild strike of 2007 and the only reason to watch shows anymore are cool original premises, nice animation, or waifus, and Dota has none
>waifus
>dota db has none
Mirana, Marcy, Lina, CM, Auroth, Luna, Fymryn, Celemene
the show has more female characters than male
dota has an fairly large amount of waifus lol.
i can’t even think of a single ugly female character.
there is a literal succubus queen of pain whose into sadomasochism and literally led a kingdom to ruin using it on the ruler.
they all look ugly
What about Broodmother?
3rd season has been an action packed adventure
Why did they have to kill off the fire waifu and the mute waifu?
>the mute waifu
Marci deserved a better ending.
They also killed Bram's dragon waifu.
>Why does absolutely no one cares about this show? That kind of makes me want to watch it
I binge watched it, and it was ok.
But I played a lot of dota.
I didn't expect it to go the way it did, but I don;t know how good it is ultimately.
It is the dictionary definition of generic. Absolutely none of the games color or pizazz.
I'm still confuse with the ending.
Invoker’s whole new universe was just to get a living Filomena, he knew the new universe probably wouldn’t last and so setup the original universe with everything needed for Filomena to survive. He also taught her the workings of the forge for her to survive the universal reset, remember their whole discussion about dollhouses?
Basically this but I should note that the other goal was to get a version of Filomena who survived long enough to learn magic and see everything for herself. In the original world she would die far too young to learn magic to begin with since her body was rotting away the moment she was born, likely due to the corrupting influence of the Nemesis Stones
Because I was confuse with Filomena saying "Do you love me?"
Ah, that's just because every single season ended with someone in their family saying that line, first Invoker, then Selemene and finally Filomena. I personally interpret it as Filomena rebuilding her home and then saying the line to her father who should be right next to her. Whether or not he's actually there, it's up to the viewer
Or Filomena ascends to become the Selemene of the regular dota timeline.
Fymryn's already taken up that role, magic dream orgies and all.
Do you want my understanding of the 5D chess events anon?
I could make a much more exciting depiction of dota. The world's talent is poorly distributed.
Because it's entirely unremarkable.
The writing is steaming dogshit and it had the budget of 2 cents.
Its just another shitty MiR animu. Generic to the bone with an awful artstyle
I actualy really liked this show i thoght there were some legitmatley good themes, moments and character development
How ever the paciing was rushed and i felt they did abad time explianing allot of the world
Still solid show would recomend
So glad that Mirana might have a baby through magic. Yes it's Davion's
I will now watch your show
It was a 3 month time skip between the second and third seasons, so Davion could have slept with her while recovering in the interim.
the show was Carl's 5d chess wild ride.
This just means the dota lore is cannon and not cannon at the same time because of multiverse bullshit. I hope this pave the way for more short stories about other characters hopefully.
It's not a multiverse, it's a universe that restarts in an endless cycle with little differences in each new restart, but with key events that always remain, like the dragon knight.
>people who made this didn't even played DotA 2
>Uses frick ton of boring characters and even more boring OCs
>written like castlevania
I wrote this on a Cinemaphile thread last year:
Watched the first episode.
>Many people hated the distorted Chris Metzen Warcraft 3 look that carried onto WoW and eventually DOTA and LoL. But at least it was bold and distinctive. I mean look at my pic.
>So how did Davion turn from the cool action figure with all the flame like sharp angles and sleek curves from the game into this generic run of the mill literally who?
>Y'know what we liked about Valve games and why critics praised them for their storytelling despite some ADD zoomers claiming there's no story? Nothing was beaten over our heads and told to us. We had to experience and see for ourselves through the level design and context.
>What does this show start with? Exposition, exposition, exposition.
>Basic writing rule: Show don't tell!
>You know how Luke Skywalker started off as a weakling and grew into a powerful Jedi Knight who defeated Vader? That's called character growth and in games it's leveling up.
>Davion's first scene he's already overpowered. I am afraid of Mary Sue or Legolas effect problems later on...
>Everyone looks the same. Same facial proportions and gaunt looks.
>I know they were going to a generic medieval European high fantasy setting, but could they at least tried to spice it up?
>Uh...not the whole heavy handed "humans are le racist" and "go home ~~*elves*~~" trope. The same animation studio did this too with The Dragon Prince and Korra and that was way better looking and more subtle.
>Okay...so Slyrak the Eldwurm is le friendly dragon who saves him from BadDragon™?
>I remember one of the biggest fan debates among the lore was whether Davion was the Dragon or was he the knight...I guess that's settled. Why?
>I guess next time Valve will destroy all the mystery behind the G-Man and reveal his origin in a Geico commercial.
So I didn't like the pilot. But does it get better?
didn't read, looks like a wall of autism
but no it doesn't get better, only gets worse
It is a wall of autism.
>>Y'know what we liked about Valve games and why critics praised them for their storytelling despite some ADD zoomers claiming there's no story?
Dota 2 had barebones lore from the beginning, only autists try to pretend otherwise. Truth is that lore isn't at all relevant for a game like Dota, so it was never given much mind, and at launch each hero's lore was just OC tier flavor text that was mostly unconnected from one another.
The show didn't have much to work with, since whatever exists is either underdeveloped, has several inconsistencies, or has been retconned with Artifact and Underlord's cancellations, because for some weird reason all the efforts to develop the lore were tied to the spin-offs.
Seasons 1 and 3 are pretty good, 2 is a pile of dogshit though.
The only good character is this bland plain jane mute OC. That's why no one cares about this show.
Didn't she die?
Move over for new best girl
Not like that’s stopped anyone before
no doubt she inherited her mother's attributes.
Just finished season 3 and I thought season 2 was better.
I don't get what yall are on about.
It was just nothing but space beam god dream orchestra snoozefest.
I unironically enjoyed the journey more than anything that happened in this season, seasons 1 and 2 were much better.
It's extremely mid.
Presumably because it has no coombait nor is it very political. Because god know those are the only two things this site can think about
It came out around the same time as Arcane and the few DOTA fans tried to talk it up by trashing Arcane.
I see you, Khalil
>DOTA fans tried to talk it up by trashing Arcane
Not the lolbabs making up some feud that never happened to victimize themselves.
So the whole anticlimactic ending means we're getting at least one more season? Just don't get it.
It had Elvira as a Dragon I wanted to frick, that's all I needed in life and I am ready to die.
generic fantasy show with the dota label slapped on it
Shiro!Guts is bae though
Is Davion supposed to be mongol? Because he looks like one. Probably his grandpa was a non-mongol that raped a peasant girl. Non-Mongolia can be a thing just like Helios is obviously non-Constantinople These fantasy settings can be a little confusing
We find out in the third season that Kaeden is Davion's biological father.
It's a vidya commercial.
That speaks for itself, really.
The "world" of dota is so painfully dull and generic I don't know why anyone would even be interested in a show about it.
this, it surpassed team fortress 2 in ugly dress up simulator
It strentched its welcome.
S1 was nice. Should have stopped there
Because the ravager c**t 'just has to learn to forgive herself' when she should be suffering for all eternity for being a self righteous genocidal jackass.
