There were so many awful things in that series. The way it treated Anti-Venom/Eddie Brock, the way it disposed of Patrick Mulligan/Toxin off-panel. It was a Venom comic for people who hated Venom, and who hated symbiotes.

the Ewing/V run follows the Cates run directly but outside of Dylan and Eddie being the King in Black, nothing from that run matters maybe just read a wiki summery if you don't want to to read the run just so you understand the essentials and you can then leap into Ewing's run
Symbiote lore has become so fricking confusing, I now unironically prefer the Ultimate version where Venom was just a science project by Peter's and Eddie's fathers.
