I was 16 when this picture was released. Practically every film critic panned it. I can recall the faux-frenzy it caused back in '96; with some suggesting Carrey's career was on the decline with audiences. I watched it for the 1st time around 4 years ago. Funny as frick.

ikr? watched it for the first time recently and it is hilarious and a trip to watch through a modern lens. its aged in the weirdest way.

I thought standpoint comedians looked down on physical comedy. Why is he so revered in that community

Because he is a comedic genius. Comedians also revere andy kaufman who never did jokes or traditional standup. Jim Carrey would perform on stage with just body and facial movements to see how long he could make the audience laugh without saying a word.

He's pretty shit tbh. He's done maybe 2 comedic movies worth a damn. His serious movies suck (yes, including Truman show). Sandler has him beat in terms of quality in comedy and drama

      2 Ace venturas
      The mask
      Liar liar
      Bruce almighty
      Truman show
      The grinch

That's at least five certified kinos. Eternal sunshine is crap btw, it's a flick at best.

The Grinch was bad and Eternal Sunshine is one of the best dream logic films, though not as good as Synecdoche New York..

Seriously how can people enjoy Ace 2? You didn't mention Me Myself and Irene, but that movie gets listed? I'll watch it again, but it was always the movie that would be on TV in the middle of a Sunday for a while and I'd just think
        >I wish I was watching the first movie
It may just be that I preferred the setting of the first movie compared to Africa though

Yeah the first one is way superior, no contest. But 2 is it's own kino and it's way funnier. The first time i saw the rhino scene I was crying.

Also I forgot me myself and Irene, that one is also good. I'm telling you the list of Jim Carrey kino is endless.

Ace 2 was inferior yes. It was more family friendly and was followed by a cartoon.

But it still had the whole tribal scene which is always one of the top things that comes to mind when I think of times I've laughed at Jim Carrey. So much gold in there.

He's severely mentally ill and channeled it all into humor. The rest of them are relatively well adjusted. They also all worked on SNL, which is where creativity goes to die.

Most likely bipolar, his acting is very much like a mania episode. Robert Williams was the same way

Carrey is a fricking satanist who joined the church in the early 80's to sell his soul for fame and success. He made it, he was a success. But cannot imagine how much child-sacrifice he's done since then. It starts with rituals and orgies and then grows into the most depraved evil known to man. And all of the other actors you listed are luciferian/satanists, some deeper than others.

I loved him when I was a kid. Not fond of him as an adult and not for the preaching or supposed mental health issues. His confrontational humor is very mean spirited and people seem to ignore this in favor of good will/ nostalgia. You can find tons of interviews where he's just generally being a piece of shit to the people around him and people are laughing like just being an earnestly belligerent prick is funny as long as you make a goofy face.

Will Ferrell is just as great in his own way. Apples and Oranges there.
Eddie Murphy was an actual succesful comedian but his only gimmick that worked in movies was playing multiple characters.
    Adam Sandler was never funny.
