The editing has been overbearing for a long time. I wish they'd let some of the jokes breathe just a little. I can't even tell what the guests can and can't see sometimes, it's overbearing as you say. Probably to distract from the fact that half the guests just aren't reacting strongly enough to the bits.

Because the whole show's on autopilot. He hasn't changed the bit since like the third season.
And I really don't get that, he could be doing anything, each episode/season could have its own vibe and style of humor but he just chooses to not do anything with it.
Like, I'd love it if he did a season where he plays it super straight with it being a late night show, except with like a Nardwuar-ish persona to make everyone uncomfortable, idk, maybe it'd be shit, but I'd take anything over the same shtick over and over.
Also yeah, the fact that everyone is in on the bit makes the whole guest part meaningless. Getting random old grannies of the street for the interviews would be a preferable option to this.
I think there's ways to impress or entertain a guest even if they're expecting it or are familiar with the show, but the writing just isn't there anymore.
