why does it seem that most people hate this movie or think it's "cringe" now? there was even a podcast where a guy watched it for 72 hours straight to see if it would kill him

>Teens - Love it
>Early 20s - Eh
>Mid 20s - Hate it
>30s - Love it again
this. I think people just have a different interpretation of it as they grow up. a lot of people are turned off by the "dudebros" that love it for stupid reasons, but there is a lot of good shit about this movie
literally me
Absolutely this. As a teen I was a cringy edgy little shit so I thought it was some counter culture masterpiece. Into your 20s you find it all a bit embarrassing but now i'm 30 odd I can appreciate the film for what it is and unlike when I was a teen I can enjoy films or books or whatever that speak to a different demographic to myself. I don't think it is a masterpiece at all but it is good for what it is
The movie is ugly truth. Nothing more.
It became an incel meme
I love this movie still. Incels need not apply, there are seriously loose women like Marla Singer everywhere.
>most people hate this movie or think it's "cringe" now
did you conduct a survey or something? or is it just source:dude trust me?
Dude, trust me
Everything is detached irony or dismissive quips. Nobody is courageous enough to be sincere, because sincerity is vulnerability. I liked it when I was younger, and I still do.
i watch it atleast once a year and still enjoy it every time.
it's a film written by a homosexual, about the hedonism of underground gay culture
actually it's about the rampant insecurity of masculine heterosexual males and how it makes them into lunatics
lmao do you seriously think hets were the first to be insecure over their masculinity
It's has some dated '90's cool' elements but i think it holds up rather well
It’s a great movie up until the last 30 minutes
Because fat fedora neckbeards loved that movie along with the matrix 20+ years ago.
literally impossible to attain this physique
try ottermode
almost my physique rn you just need to go to the gym for a few months he doesnt have that much muscle just low bf and a good frame
Do you do any weight stuff? I'm pretty close to this with just plank workouts, squats and pushups. However, I have completely cut out alcohol and i'm on a really strict diet and starting to think that the diet is 90% responsible for it
its all diet
everyone in this thread would look like that if they got their bodyfat down
Well shit, which is it lads?
yeah i work chest back legs shoulders abs once a week, and i mean on different days not all in a day but i dont do diets, i just eat whatever and dont drink either though i should eat more carbs and proteins
>there was even a podcast
There's your answer. As soon as some wanker does a podcast or youtube video about something, everyone starts parroting it.

First time hearing this, I thought we were getting a wave of Gen-Z appreciating the movie (And well, watching it) due to a surge of YouTube video essays on it, and the "Literally me"/Men in their 20s memes.
Must be my social bubble then, shit.
was always a corny movie that appealed to dissatisfied men who never experienced violence in their lives and thought they were missing something. The fact is there was never a shortage of violence out there to be had if you wanted it, you didn't need a fight club to scrap, theres always someone out there who will frick with you.
I think because it defined a generation of dudes, in the same way that A Clockwork Orange did and even Rebel Without a Cause, amongst others. Firstly, they are movies for young futureless guys, secondly they are largely unique to their generation, thirdly they are all critical of normative society and the status quo. All of these things make them increasingly difficult for the majority to relate to and are also subject to be viewed differently by an aging fanbase.
These days people have performative opinions rather than genuine ones, particularly when you are dealing with shit like postcasts. What will attract the most attention, garner the most virtue, rile up the most people, aligns best with the ingroup I ascribe to.
Incel core films (fight club, taxi driver, drive etc.) are frank about the emasculation and utter alienation of young men endemic to modern urban conditions, which is now seen as old hat. You see a reaction to this in recent films aimed towards young men (Joker, Batman) where the design is to pathologise, to implant thoughts about therapy and mental health, to twist identification towards misplaced masculinity as an unmanaged social health crisis. Go to therapy and take your meds!
